....

If marketed correctly, the "El Classico" games between Central & Connection - if backed up by a game featuring Point or Sando- can bring in $5,000 plus. Still not a lot, but it at least covers the cost of hosting the game. I budgeted for taking $4,500 per double header - $2,250 per team. Thats around 150 adults (some of whom would have pro league season tickets)
We started to place advertising boards at our games. We built the boards and offered free placement once banners were supplied. The idea is to create interest and then charge say $300 per game. Ato let us store the boards there as transport costs made it impractical. It was working until somebody stole 5 banners and smashed up 3 boards. However, the person was identified and has reimbursed the club. We now have a car company looking to spend $5,000 to advertise next season, a travel agent, a hotel and several others interested. This would, at least, generate some income.
...

I appreciate the insights.

The match you referenced originally was the Valentine's Day encounter (who was the opponent? ... not sure which team was the opponent), but if the clasico presents the optimal financial opportunity it is hard to see how financial viability is maintained across the board.

FS, welcome back from the posting hiatus.

You mentioned taking $120 at the gate, but you didn't mention what the gate should/likely would have been but for the scheduling change. That is useful missing info.

Army and Police don't receive any subventions and have to depend on their relative donors to supply funds for football. The Police Sports Club funds their football, but they too have had cuts. They recently released all civilian players who received stipends.
But yes they have advantages. When we shared a double header with Police, they had a police vehicle and police staff as ambulance cover and uniformed police as security. However, those policemen just watched the game while people snuck into the ground for free which they were supposed to prevent. So Central paid their costs, while Police lost us money!
We all know that many people don't value the Pro League, but if it's not supported by the people or the government then we won't have performances like last night from Connection. Trinidad teams are the most successful at CFU and teams want to avoid them in the champions league. Our national team will suffer.

Here's a thing -  Jan-Michael Williams received $33,000 last year from the 83,000 subvention (if you divide the annual subvention between the number of players on the squad) He is the most successful Trinidadian goalkeeper currently playing - in fact, you could call him an elite athlete.

Narine just received $35,000 from Minister of Sport to help his bowling action. He's a multi millionaire!

But elite athletes receive up to $250,000 per year from SPORTT. Some of those people will never win a medal or finish in the top 5 at olympics and some of them will and are already earning huge appearance fees.

I don't begrudge olympians their funding, but I do think that our number one sport should be better supported.

Well said !!!!

T&T MoS is really a big joke.

Marcus Joseph brace keeps Central winning.
ttproleague.com.

Marcus Joseph has evidently found his scoring boots since the January departure of Trinidad and Tobago forward Willis Plaza from Central FC to El Salvador Premier Division outfit Alianza FC. The 24-year-old Joseph scored on either side of the break on Tuesday against his former side Point Fortin Civic to help Central FC walk away with full points from their trip to Mahaica Oval with a 3-1 win.

Joseph, who scored in a 7-0 win over Civic on Jan. 15 in Couva, has now scored in six consecutive games for the “Couva Sharks” who are unbeaten in 12 straight games and sit at the Digicel Pro League summit with 43 points and their most recent feat of six consecutive wins.

Joseph put the Dale Saunders coached-Central ahead on 14 minutes from the penalty spot before cushioning the visitors by the 54th minute with his ninth goal for the year—six goals more than his 2015/16 season tally before the Christmas break. Joseph has scored 12 league goals this season.

Central completed their scoring, and fourth win against Civic in all competitions this season, in the third minute of stoppage-time through full-back Kevon Villaroel before Glenn Sutton grabbed the consolation item for the home side two minutes later.

Civic continue to occupy ninth-position, tied on 16 points with seventh-positioned Morvant Caledonia United who are against San Juan Jabloteh from 4pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday.

Defence Force, four points behind in second on the standings and four points clear of W Connection who are against Police FC from 6pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday, kept pace with Central after narrowly defeating cellar-positioned St. Ann’s Rangers 2-1 in the first game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday.

Devorn Jorsling, last season’s league top scorer and the Pro League’s all-time leading scorer, snatched the Defence Force winner in the 75th minute after latching onto perfectly placed feed from midfielder Hashim Arcia before slipping the ball past an advancing St. Ann’s Rangers goalkeeper Stefan Berkeley.

Coach Marvin Gordon’s side had taken the lead on 38 minutes when Ross Russell Jr.’s cross was met by an unmarked Kellon Serrette who directed the ball past Berkeley from close range.

But Rangers, an improved side with the additions of such players as former San Juan Jabloteh, Central FC and North East stars midfielder Johan Peltier and former North East Stars winger Jomoul Francois in the recent transfer window, had nullified the score ten minutes into the second half through utility player Jameel Antoine who found the top far corner of goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke’s with a textbook strike from just inside the area.

Rangers, in search of the go-ahead goal, had a shout for penalty after Kadeem Hutchinson went down to a Curtis Gonzales challenge in the 64th minute but, to the surprise of many, referee Dennis Changiah awarded the winger a yellow card for simulation.

Defence Force too, would later consider themselves unlucky after having two penalty shouts waved away by Changiah.

In the first instance Defence Force substitute forward Richard Roy, who early curled an Arcia cross wide of goal, was upended by goalkeeper Berkeley in the 86th minute. Two minutes later another substitute, Kerry Joseph, took a tumble in the area during a run towards goal when he was tackled by Rangers substitute defender Kareem Baptiste.

In the second game at the Couva venue, Trinidad and Tobago 2006 FIFA World Cup member Anthony Wolfe and overlooked T&T forward Kerry Baptiste both scored their first goals since returning to North East Stars in the January/February transfer window to earn Ross Russell’s side a hard-fought 2-1 win over Club Sando, while snapping a seven-game winless slide by the Sangre Grande club.

The 32-year-old Wolfe, who had stints in India with Churchill Brothers and Sporting Goa in the last two seasons, rounded Sando’s Grenada national team goalkeeper Jason Belfon to fire North East Stars ahead in the 10th-minute after being picked out by midfielder Kerry Daniel.

It was not until ten minutes from time that Sando forward and captain Jesse Downing equalised for the home side. Downing, who failed to make contact to an effort by Kevon Woodley in front of goal moments earlier, redeemed himself from close up after goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel was only able to tame an effort from substitute Rickson Phillip.

But in the 89th-minute the 34-year-old Kerry Baptiste rolled back the clock with the game-winner to the delight of coach Russell and, especially, his latest signings in goalkeeper Samuel, Daniel, Wolfe (A), Baptiste and Ryan Stewart among others.

Goalkeeper Belfon, who had denied Baptiste on three earlier occasions, was unable to keep grip on the former Toyota/TT Pro League Player of the Year’s strike at the bottom corner and the ball entered his net.

Baptiste had a great opportunity to complete a double in stoppage-time but directed his attempt wide off a rebound after substitute Chike Sullivan low strike struck the Sando far upright.

North East Stars remain sixth on the standings, now with 26 points, six clear of seventh-positioned Sando and one point behind fifth-positioned Police FC.

Central edge D/Force to go seven points clear in DPL ahead of CCL qualifiers.
ttproleague.com.

Central FC couldn’t ask for more after Friday’s1-0 win over Defence Force in their Digicel Pro League top-of-the-table clash ahead of next week’s Concacaf Champions League qualifiers in Jamaica.

Marcus Joseph delivered the game’s only goal on 13 minutes in front of a few hundreds of spectators that turned up at the Ato Boldon Stadium to earn the defending DPL champions full points.

Joseph fired past a wall of Defence Force shirts from the edge of the area. His left-footed strike had too much sting for goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke who got his arms to the ball but couldn’t stop it from entering the back of his far netting.

It was the Trinidad and Tobago international forward’s seventh consecutive scoring outing for the “Couva Sharks”, taking his league tally to 13 goals, while his side boasts an 7-game winning streak and undefeated in their last 13 games.

Central, however, took precautionary measure in replacing Joseph – who picked up a knock in the 24th minute – at the break. Central lost their strength in attack but Defence Force, despite a gritty effort to find a way back, failed to find the equalising goal.

The win ensured Central (46 points) stretch their DPL lead seven points clear of second-positioned Defence Force and ten points ahead of third-positioned W Connection, who had to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with eight-positioned Morvant Caledonia United in the first game of Friday’s double-header at the Couva venue.

It is the sort of “breathing space” Central interim coach Dale Saunders desired before his team jets off for Jamaica on Tuesday to begin defence of the Caribbean Club Championship against Cayman Islands team Scholars International SC on March 11 and hosts Montego Bay United on March 13 in Group 3 at the Montego Bay Sporting Complex.

Only the group winners advances into the semi-final round on April 29 in which W Connection already occupies a spot having topped Group 1 in Trinidad a week ago. The two semi-final winners and the third place winners will occupy the three Caribbean berths at the 2016/17 Concacaf Champions League. The final of the Caribbean Club Championship will be contested on May 1.

Connection, without a number of players including attacking midfielders Jomal Williams and Andre Toussaint and defensive midfielder Briel Thomas who impressed during the Caribbean Club Championship group stage, struggled to get into stride early against Caledonia on Friday.

Guyana duo Kareem Knights and Pernell Schultz handed Caledonia on a 2-0 cushion before the break.

Teenager Knights volleyed past goalkeeper Julani Archibald off an Antonio Joseph cross on 13 minutes for his first ever Caledonia goal.

Schultz later converted from the penalty spot in the 44th minute after his earlier strike crashed off the arm of Connection defensive midfielder Gerard Williams at the edge of the area. Referee Keilon Bacchus pointed to the spot after consulting his assistant and Connection were behind by two goals heading into the break.

However Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s men stormed back in the second half to level the scores 2-2 and could have produced a win, had it not been for the heroics of former Connection goalie Marvin Phillip between the Caledonia uprights.

Phillip had produced two excellent saves, denying Shahdon Winchester and Kurt Frederick early in the second half, but there was little the Trinidad and Tobago international could do when Winchester found the far bottom corner getting beyond defender Leslie Russell.

Winchester turned provider in the 62nd-minute slipping a pass behind Russell inside the area to pick out an oncoming Dimitrie Apai and the Suriname international was clinical to beat a hapless Phillip.

Phillip had the last say, denying the Apai and Winchester further goals in the 68th-minute and stoppage-time, respectively.

Baptiste nets three as N/E Stars whip Police.
ttproleague.com.

Kerry Baptiste has entered his new lease on life at North East Stars with four goals in two games, with his latest a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Police FC at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Sunday.

Baptiste, who scored the winning goal in a 2-1 result over Club Sando on Tuesday, led the Sangre Grande outfit to their second consecutive win, after snapping Ross Russell’s men seven-game winless streak.

North East Stars, now with 29 points, moved into fifth position on the Digicel Pro League standings by leapfrogging Police (27 points), who must face third-positioned W Connection in a rescheduled fixture from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday March 9.

Baptiste, the second highest scorer in the history of the Pro League behind Defence Force’s Devorn Jorsling, was a rarely used forward at defending league champions Central FC—the club he joined at the start of the season—but is already making an impact with his former side North East Stars since joining in the January/February transfer window.

Baptiste had one goal to his name for Central this season, netting the final item of a 4-0 win in stoppage-time against Club Sando in the semi-final round of the Toyota Classic last October. But on Sunday, he brought back memories of 2009—the year he helped Joe Public capture five major titles including the Pro League crown and and FA Trophy while becoming the highest scorer of a season in the Pro League.

Baptiste netted the Stars opening and closing items in the 5-2 win against the "Lawmen".

The 34-year-old overlooked Trinidad and Tobago international put North East Stars ahead on 12 minutes with a trademark finish, placing the ball beyond goalkeeper Adrian Foncette from just inside the area after latching onto a defence-splitting pass from Anthony Wolfe.

Gorean Highley made it 2-0 three minutes before the break after a blunder by Foncette. Foncette, in an attempted clearance after some indecisiveness by his defence, crashed the ball into the body of Highley inside the area and the Stars forward spared no mercy in hitting past the Police goalie after some adjustments.

If that wasn’t enough to spill over the frustrations of coach Richard Hood as Police were guilty of wasting chances, another giveaway by Police midfielder and captain Todd Ryan eight minutes inside the second period offered Highley a look on goal from 24 yards out with Foncette off his line. However Highley struck high in his attempt to lob the Police goalie.

Baptiste was clinical again with his second goal of the game to put North East Stars 3-0 up by hitting past Foncette off substitute Reon Moore’s right side cross in the 70th-minute.

Six minutes later Moore, a former member of the North East Stars youth teams, made it 4-0 when he grabbed his first senior team goal for the Stars by placing the ball into Foncette’s far bottom corner after dribbling off two defenders.

Stars’ transfer window goalkeeping signing, former T&T youth player Glenroy Samuel, was brilliant with a number of shutouts until the 79th-minute when Police substitute Dylon King pulled a goal back from just in the area.

But Baptiste, following some neat exchanges inside the area, completed his hat-trick with another class finish to make it 5-1.

Police would find another goal though, to end the game 5-2, when Makesi Lewis for his 15th league goal at the top of the scorer’s list this season, hit off the underside of the crossbar to beat Samuel from substitute Jameel Perry’s cross.

Police, however, must improve quickly if they are to get a positive result against W Connection on Wednesday and snap their two-game losing form.

Jabloteh brush aside Cale’ in lead up to Saturday’s clash with D/Force in Barataria.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh have warmed up for Saturday’s highly anticipated home game against Defence Force with their fourth consecutive win in the Digicel Pro League, by brushing aside Morvant Caledonia United 3-0 in a rescheduled game at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday.

Fabian Reid, Jamal Gay and Nathan Lewis each scored in the second half to give coach Keith Jeffrey his best result of the season against his team’s cross-town rivals after a 2-1 win on September 27 and 1-0 loss on January 15.

Jabloteh, with 35 points in fourth, will attempt to extend their winning ways when they host second-positioned Defence Force (39 points) on Saturday from 6:30pm at the Barataria Recreation Ground, while eight-positioned Caledonia returns to action on Friday against six-positioned Police FC from 6pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Police were also in action on Wednesday, holding third-positioned W Connection (37 points) to a 0-0 draw in the first game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Connection will aim for full points on Friday when they host Point Fortin Civic from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium following back-to-back draws.

In the earlier Couva game on Wednesday, forward Kerry Baptiste took his goal tally to six goals, netting in three consecutive games, since returning to North East Stars in the transfer window.

However it was a late Anthony Guppy item that separated North East Stars from the cellar-positioned St. Ann’s Rangers for a 4-3 win.

Rangers had kept themselves in the game with three equalising goals through Kevon Piper (39th minute), Jeromie Williams (63rd minute) and Kadeem Hutchinson (80th minute) until nine minutes from time Guppy, another transfer window signing, grabbed the North East Stars’ winner.

Baptiste netted on either side of the break, twice putting the Sangre Grande club in front with goals in the 33rd and 57th minutes, before midfielder Ryan Stewart also scored a go-ahead goal in the 71st-minute.

In Malabar, Fabian Reid fired Jabloteh ahead thirteen minutes into the second period with a composed finish into the left corner of goalkeeper Marvin Phillip’s netting.

Jabloteh could have gone ahead before the break but Tyrone Charles missed the target with Phillip at his mercy after holding off two challenges when he was played into the area by former Caledonia forward Jamal Gay on 20 minutes.

Ten minutes earlier Phillip matched a 30-yard free-kick by Charles, pushing the midfielder’s powerful attempt overbar.

But Charles redeemed himself by making light work of Caledonia right-back Antonio Joseph before finding Gay, who from the edge of the six-yard area, teed up Jamaican midfielder Reid (F) for opening item.

Moments later Reid (F) missed an excellent opportunity to put Jabloteh two in front when he struck overbar after another former Caledonia player Nathan Lewis had shredded left-back Ordell Flemming before proving a dangerous cross.

Jabloteh finally got the 2-0 cushion on 71 minutes when Gay headed a left side corner-kick by Charles into the far bottom corner of Phillip’s netting for his eight league goal this season.

Phillip was hung out to dry again by his defence in the 81st-minute and Lewis fired in Jabloteh’s final goal for the 3-0 score.

It was from a defence-splitting pass by another former Caledonia player Noel Williams, who entered the game after the break, that Lewis was able to attack the box before blasting past Phillip.

There were 10 goals from three matches in the TT Pro League on Wednesday and that's even with one goal-less result. There were wins for San Juan Jabloteh which cruised against East West Corridor rivals, Morvant Caledonia United. By contrast, North East Stars were chased all the way before narrowly edging out St. Ann's Rangers.

Perry leads Police to victory over Caledonia; wasteful Connection narrowly escapes draw with Civic.
ttproleague.com.

Forward Jameel Perry scored one and set up another within a space of three minutes early into the second half to lead Police FC to a 2-1 win over his former employers Morvant Caledonia United in the first game of Friday night’s Digicel Pro League double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

In the second game, however, Dimitrie Apai’s second strike proved decisive after a number of clear-cut chances were wasted by W Connection who edged Point Fortin Civic 1-0 to avoid slipping to a third consecutive league draw.

The 21-year-old Suriname international forward, unmarked at the back post, volleyed into an exposed Civic net five minutes into the second half off a cross from left full-back Kurt Frederick to earn Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s men the win.

That goal lifted Connection (40 points) into second, edging a point ahead of Defence Force, who face San Juan Jabloteh from 6:30pm at the Barataria Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Defending champions Central FC are at the summit with 40 points and Jabloteh are fourth with 35 points, while Police are one point below fifth-positioned North East Stars (32 points).

Perry, after adjusting his scope just inside the area, fired Police ahead 1-0 in the 48th-minute when he struck low and powerfully to beat Caledonia goalkeeper Marvin Phillip following a lifted pass by Kareem Freitas.

Police then took a 2-0 cushion in the 51st-minute after Perry squared a pass across the area and Makesi Lewis clinically found the far bottom corner for his season 17th league goal beyond Phillip, who he joins on the Trinidad and Tobago national team for a friendly international away to Grenada on March 19.

Caledonia had an excellent opportunity to reduce the deficit on the hour mark but defender Robert Primus, who was used as an experimental forward, spilled high overbar from the edge of the six-yard area after lunging to meet a Pernell Schultz cross.

The 25-year-old T&T international Primus, who was previously based in Kazakhstan and is coming off a lengthy layoff due to a knee injury, was involved in two excellent go-ahead opportunities which were wasted in the first half.

Caledonia finally pulled back a goal through midfielder Jameel Neptune in the first of three minutes stoppage-time, with a blast from the centre of the area.

Police goalkeeper Adrian Foncette, who made excellent saves to deny Caledonia substitute Marcus Ambrose and Otev Lawrence in the 64th and 88th minutes, respectively, was unable to preserve his clean sheet due to the pace of Neptune’s strike.

Police, however, maintained their one hundred percent win record this season against the eight-placed Caledonia, the side they defeated 2-1 on Oct. 27 and 5-0 on Jan. 19.

Connection, who defeated Civic 3-1 on Oct. 17 en route to lifting this season’s First Citizens Cup and 7-1 in the league on Jan. 19, avoided another 0-0 result they had against the Point Fortin side on Oct. 27 in the league, thanks to Apai’s goal.

But coach Charles-Fevrier was left with more concerns than comfort after his side’s display against the ninth-placed Civic. His side failed to make light work of Civic by squandering a handful of point-blank scoring chances.

Apai struck wide in the 24th minute with the goalkeeper Goodman at his mercy after St. Lucia international Frederick swung a perfect cross behind the Civic defence.

Then a minute from the half 20-year-old Grenada forward Jamal Charles directed an effort wide of the target, with an open net at his disposal after a hard worked Alvin Jones cross had left ‘keeper Goodman beaten out of his goal.

Four minutes after redeeming himself with the eventual game-winning strike, Apai was denied a second by Goodman.

But from the resulting corner kick play, Apai casually lifted the ball off his thigh at the Civic goal mouth, making for a comfortable gather by the goalkeeper.

Goodman, who denied Connection teenaged midfielder Isaiah Hudson his first top flight goal in the 22nd-minute, was excellent again just before the hour mark when he dived low to his right to push wide a powerful 25-yard free-kick from Alvin Jones.

Connection attacks continued but so did their poor finishing, even with the arrival of second half substitutes Jomal Williams and Shahdon Winchester, who are both part of the T&T squad to face Grenada.

Williams (J) fired wide of an empty goal in the 76th-minute after being picked out by an Apai cross, and in stoppage-time Winchester struck inches wide of the upright with Goodman at his mercy.

Police snap Central's remarkable run; Gorean 'Ratty' Highley scores winning brace as N/E Stars stun Connection.
ttproleague.com.

Police FC on Friday night became only the third team this season, after San Juan Jabloteh and North East Stars, to defeat defending Digicel League champions Central FC in league.

The “Lawmen” celebrated a 1-0 result for their first victory against Central in four attempts this season in all competitions and it came without scoring the goal.

Dreadfully it was an own goal eight minutes before the break that snapped the “Couva Sharks”’ 15-game undefeated streak in all competitions achieved under the promotion of assistant coach Dale Saunders to head coach after sacking Ross Russell in mid-December.

An errant clearance in desperation by Central right-back Kaydion Gabriel and out-of-sorts second choice goalkeeper Akel Clarke misjudging the high ball, allowed it to fall into his goal despite his last ditch effort to pull off a save.

Central, who entered the game on a 9-game winning run in all competitions, did have their chances but Police goalkeeper Adrian Foncette – denying Darren Mitchell, Sean De Silva and substitute Kadeem Corbin – did everything possible, even keeping out what would have turned out a second half own goal against his side off the boot of defender Jibri Mc David at his bottom corner following a dangerous cross by Jason Marcano.

But credit to Police, coach Richard Hood’s players were resolute even after Central had thrown in fresh firepower up front in the second half with Marcus Joseph replacing speedy winger Rundell Winchester, who made his first appearance for the “Couva Sharks” since returning following his 2015 loan stint with United States club Portland Timbers 2, and Corbin and Nicholas Dillon replacing De Silva and Leston Paul, respectively.

Police were excellent on the counterattacks but failed to capitalise beyond the final pass. The “Lawmen” did manage an excellent effort through Makesi Lewis, who turned neatly at the end of the area, but his strike with five minutes regular-time left was matched by Clarke, who stood in Central goal in place of injury-listed Jan-Michael Williams (shoulder). The T&T international ‘keeper suffered the injury on March 13 while representing Central against hosts Montego Bay United in Jamaica in their final Group 3 game of the 2016 Caribbean Club Championship, in which the “Couva Sharks” are the defending champions.

Central (46 points) however, didn't lose their six-point lead at the top of the DPL 2015/16 standings after second placed W Connection (40 points) were stunned 3-1 by North East Stars in a come-from-behind victory in the second game of the Couva double-header.

Shahdon Winchester headed Connection in front 1-0, beating Stars’ goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel on 13 minutes off a Neil Bemjamin Jr cross.

But the visitors equalised midway through the half from a Ryan Stewart free-kick before a second half brace from substitute Gorean "Ratty" Highley gave the Ross Russell coached-North East Stars their fifth consecutive league win.

Stewart levelled the score 1-1 in the 26th minute when he brilliantly swung a free-kick around the wall and the ball bounced beyond goalkeeper Terrence Lewis and into the far netting after Anthony Guppy was brought down just outside the box by 17-year-old W Connection senior team debutant Isaiah Garcia who is the cousin of 18-year-old Trinidad and Tobago latest sensation Levi Garcia.

Lewis was excellent though, later in the game, when he got glove to a superb Kerry Baptiste volley to direct it off the upright, denying the Stars’ forward his ninth goal in five games since returning to North East Stars from Central in the January/February transfer window.

Connection too were denied by the frame after Jomal Williams had slipped beyond the Stars defence and rounded goalkeeper Samuel, only to see his attempt cannon off the upright.

North East Stars though, grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute when former player Highley – just six minutes onto the pitch – slapped the right-footed strike beyond a fully stretched Lewis after picking up a pass from Guppy.

Highley then celebrated his double in the 81st minute off Guppy’s second assist by hitting past Lewis off the outside of his favoured left boot to snap Connection’s six-game undefeated run in all competitions.

North East Stars maintains fifth position with 35 points—one point ahead of sixth positioned Police FC and three points behind fourth positioned San Juan Jabloteh who will attempt their sixth straight league win when they welcome cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers from 6:30pm at the Barataria Recreation Ground today (Saturday April 2).

Also on today, Club Sando and Morvant Caledonia United will journey to the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground in Guayaguayare to face each other from 4pm, and from 6pm Point Fortin Civic will host third positioned Defence Force at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin.

D/Force edge Civic to move within four points of Central.
ttproleague.com.

Akeem Roach scored with a minute of regulation-time left to give Defence Force a 2-1 win over home side Point Fortin Civic on Saturday at the Mahaica Oval.

The win, combined with Friday night's slips by Digicel Pro League frontrunners Central and W Connection who fell 1-0 and 3-1 against Police FC and North East Stars, respectively, in Couva, puts Defence Force (42 points) up a spot into second.

Defending champions Central, with a game in hand, are atop the standings with 46 points while Connection (40 points) slipped a spot into third.

Forward Kellon Serrette had given Defence Force a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute but Civic winger Akeem Redhead put the home side level 1-1 on 56 minutes.

It was not until the 89th minute that Roach, with his first Defence Force goal this season since returning in the January/February transfer window following a stint with Morvant Caledonia United, handed coach Marvin Gordon’s side the winner as Civic, occupying ninth with 16 points, conceded a fourth straight loss.

Cellar positioned St. Ann’s Rangers meanwhile picked up their 11th point of the 2015/16 campaign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against home side San Juan Jabloteh.

Nathan Lewis scored in the 88th minute to pull Jabloteh level and avoid defeat at the Barataria Recreation Ground, but not enough to give the “San Juan Kings” a sixth straight win.

Rangers had led from the 38th minute thanks to a Trevin Latapy strike, but the visitors failed to stop the in-form Lewis with two minutes left and the attacker snatched his 11th goal of the season while remaining the only Jabloteh player to score on the Barataria this season. Lewis has four goals in the three games in Barataria.

Jabloteh (39 points) remain fourth, one point behind Connection while North East Stars (35 points and Police (34 points) occupy fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Ten points away and occupying seventh position are Club Sando, who were held to a 2-2 draw with Morvant Caledonia United at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground.

Sando had led 2-0 at the break following a quick double by Devon Modeste netting in the 24th and 27th minutes against his ex-employers. But Caledonia rallied to a 2-2 draw through a goal each from Pernell Schultz and Kareem Joseph in the 47th and 83rd minutes, respectively.

Results

Club Sando 2 (Devon Modeste 24', 27') vs Morvant Caledonia United 2 (Pernell Schultz 47', Kareem Joseph 83'), at Guayaguayare Recreation Ground;

Point Fortin Civic 1 (Akeem Redhead 56') vs Defence Force 2 (Kellon Serrette 28', Akeem Roach 89'), at Mahaica Oval;

San Juan Jabloteh 1 (Nathan Lewis 88') vs St. Ann's Rangers 1 (Trevin Latapy 38'), at Barataria Recreation Ground.

Central and W Connection in back-to-back upcoming Couva Clásicos

Central and W Connection in back-to-back upcoming Couva Clásicos
ttproleague.com

Central FC coach Dale Saunders says Tuesday's Digicel Pro League Clásico against rivals W Connection can determine whether or not the “Couva Sharks” go on to retain the league crown.

The defending league champions, Central (46 points), with a game in hand, are four points ahead of second positioned Defence Force (42 points) on the 2015/16 DPL standings while in third position are Connection (40 points) with five regular league games left this season.

Connection, last season’s DPL runners up, will attempt to slice the “Couva Sharks”’ lead while improving their chance at the league crown this season when both sides meet from 8pm on Tuesday April 12 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, in what will also serve a preview of Friday’s Lucozade Sport Goal Shield (LSGS) semi-final round clash between the Couva rivals.

Central are defending LSGS champions having won the title the last time it was contested in 2014, while Connection are two-time (2009 & 2013) former champions.

“[Tuesday’s game is a] top-of-the-table league clash and we have to try and motivate our players,” said Saunders whose side needed a penalty shootout to dispatch St. Ann’s Rangers in the quarter-final round of the LSGS following a 1-1 draw last Friday.

Saunders said his players, who were, along with Connection, competing since the 2015/16 Concacaf Champions League group stage in August are now showing “some tired legs”. However he is confident in his methods and that of his coaching staff to keep the “Sharks” motivated for the two upcoming Couva Clásicos as well as the rest of the season.

“I think the game (against W Connection) will decide if we go on to win the title. It will be a very good game. Tactically, we will go back to the drawing board and try for full points against Connection,” explained Saunders who served as assistant coach to Zoran Vranes then Terry Fenwick last season, and in the same role under Ross Russell for five months this season before being promoted at the helm in mid-December after the club parted ways with Russell, a two-time league winning coach with Defence Force.

Tuesday’s Clásico is Saunders’ second in charge since holding Connection to a 1-1 draw in the DPL on January 24.

W Connection head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier, also looking ahead to final round of the 2016 Caribbean Club Championship in which Central are defending champions, said he is happy to face the “Couva Sharks” twice in four days.

“It’s the sort of competition we need to prepare for the Caribbean Club Championship final round which Central are also a part of. So [playing against each other twice is] useful preparations for both teams,” said Fevrier who led the “Savonetta Boys” to this season’s First Citizens Cup and Toyota Classic titles and are into the LSGS semi-final round with a 4-1 win over former champions North East Stars last Friday.

“We want to win both games,” added the Connection coach. “The first game (on Tuesday) is very important because it’s a situation where we are playing catch up in the league six points away from Central. We are confident in our ability and on any day we can defeat any team in the league. It’s just a matter of maintaining consistency and focus now. We don’t have a choice and I believe our players will do what is necessary, not just for the two upcoming games against Central, but for the rest of the season.”

Central and W Connection will later shift their attention the final round of the 2016 Caribbean Club Championship in Haiti, seeking consecutive berths at the Concacaf Champions League.

Central, who defeated W Connection in the Caribbean final last season, will, for a second consecutive time, meet Haiti’s Don Bosco FC in the semi-final round on April 29, while multiple-time Caribbean champions W Connection must tackle Jamaica’s Arnett Gardens after all four semi-finalist teams topped their respective groups.

The 2016 final and third place play-off will be contested on May 01. The two semi-final round winners and third place winners will secure the three Caribbean berths at the 2016/17 Concacaf Champions League.

Last season Central, coached then by former England and Tottenham defender Terry Fenwick, needed penalties to defeat Don Bosco 3-1 following a goalless semi-final draw before edging 9-man W Connection in the final to lift the Caribbean crown.

Hector scores late rocket goal on Couva Clásico debut as Connection edge Central
ttproleague.com

W Connection win but Central, Police and Caledonia all lose ahead of Friday's Lucozade Sport Goal Shield semi-finals

Just when the hundreds that turned out at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday night thought the latest Couva Clásico would end in a goalless stalemate, Hughtun Hector delivered an 89th-minute rocket to snatch a 1-0 W Connection win over rivals Central FC.

The W Connection captain’s goal could also provide the confidence booster for the “Savonetta Boys” who must again meet Central on Friday from 8pm at the same Couva venue in the second semi-final round of the 2016 Lucozade Sport Goal Shield.

Hector, on his Couva Clásico debut, since only returning to the W Connection in the January/February transfer window following a five-year stint in Vietnam top flight V-League, unleashed a right-footed blast from 25 yards out to find the back of the Central net, leaving goalkeeper Akel Clarke and his defence beaten after the “Couva Sharks” failed to properly rid the ball from a corner play.

The win saw Connection (43 points) hurdle Defence Force (42 points) – who were beaten 3-1 by Club Sando in the earlier game of the Couva double-header – to move into second position on the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 standings and close to gap to three points behind defending champions and leaders Central FC (46 points) who have a game in hand with four regular games left.

“Scoring the Clásico winner is a great feeling for me,” said Hector after the final whistle and his first league goal back in Connection strip. “I’m happy to get the goal but this was all about the team. We worked hard in preparation for this game. They (Central) were ahead of us by 6 points with a game in hand and we knew we had to come out and work hard for it. I’m just happy to get the goal. Tonight (Tuesday) was very important to us and we kept our heads in the game and got the result.”

The 31-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international, Hector, who represented Song Lam Nghe An and Hanoi T&T during his stint in the V-League, added, “I’ve witnessed some of the Clásicos [between W Connection and Central] in the past whenever I was home on break from the Vietnam league and the games were big derbies and experiencing it for the first time on the field, I have to say it lived up to expectations.”

The contest was tight with end to end action but offered little clear cut chances between the Couva rivals in the top-of-the-table clash.

Connection left-back Jelani Peters got closest to scoring long before Hector’s item when he rattled the upright in the 22nd minute and much earlier midfielder Andre Toussaint fired just overbar in the second minute of play.

But it was Central who wasted a glorious opportunity in the 4th minute when former US-based forward Rundell Winchester drilled his attempt inches wide of goalkeeper Julani Archibald’s far bottom corner after a giveaway in the middle by Connection.

Archibald who made a couple later stops and a brilliant tip overbar to deny a headed Winchester (R) attempt two minutes inside the second period, was later stretchered off with 20 minutes left. The St. Kitts and Nevis national team goalkeeper suffered a concussion after his head struck the ground in contest for a ball and was rushed to hospital.

There was little work though for his replacement Terrence Lewis, although Central, who managed a 22-yard strike from Central forward Jason Marcano inches wide of the far top corner, threw everything at Connection.

“It was a tight game but in the end we had the edge and deserved to win it,” said W Connection coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier. “It was a cagey contest with both teams very cautious. We really wanted to win this game to try and set them back [in the league] and see what will happen in the future.

“Central are a good team and games between us and them are always never easy. They are games that could go either way but tonight I felt we did that little extra to come out on top. We are hoping that on Friday we can improve our performance because although we won tonight (Tuesday), I still think we could have played better.”

W Connection stood the only side of the four Lucozade Sport Goal Shield semi-final teams to win ahead of Friday's knockout games.

Police FC and Morvant Caledonia United, who are to contest each other in the first LSGS semi-final from 6pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday, both suffered league defeats on Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Caledonia were edged 1-0 by cellar positioned St. Ann's Rangers through a 2nd minute penalty strike from Trevin Latapy which gave Angus Eve-coached side their third league win of the season but remains at the bottom with 14 points.

However, credit to Eve, who took charge of the St. Ann’s club this season, and his charges, it’s an improvement from last season bottom-of-the-table finish with just one win and five points from 24 games.

And in the second game of the Port-of-Spain double-header, San Juan Jabloteh struck a late double to overcome a one-goal deficit to beat Police 3-2 and join Defence Force on 42 points.

Jabloteh held the lead after just 6 minutes thanks to an Akeem Benjamin strike but Police struck twice in the first half with this season’s leading scorer Makesi Lewis notching his 18th league goal in the 19th minute and Dylon King netting in the 33rd minute to give the “Lawmen” a 2-1 lead at the break.

However Brent Sam found the back of the net in the 85th minute to level Jabloteh before Nathan Lewis grabbed the game-winner on 90 minutes—another vital goal from the attacker for his 12th league for the “San Juan Kings” this season.

Down at the Larry Gomes Stadium, North East Stars rebounded from their 4-1 loss to Connection in the LSGS quarter-finals last Friday by whipping Point Fortin Civic 3-0.

Forward Kerry Baptiste scored a first half brace, netting in the 6th and 25th minutes, to take his incredible tally to 9 goals from six games in all competitions since returning to the Stars in the transfer window.

Midfielder Jean-Luc Rochford sealed the comfortable 3-0 win in the 85th minute as coach Ross Russell celebrated his fifth straight league win.

Defence Force however were unable to rebound from Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Morvant Caledonia United in the quarter-final round of the LSGS despite taking the lead against Sando on Tuesday.

Forward Kellon Serrette, one of only four unchanged players from Saturday’s starting line-up for coach Marvin Gordon, gave Defence Force the lead on 24 minutes.

But Sando responded with a goal each from Devon Modeste, Jesse Downing and Akeem Humphrey to secure a 3-1 comeback win.

Modeste equalised on the half hour mark and Downing gave coach Anthony Streete’s men the lead two minutes into the second half before Humphrey completed the scoring in the 72nd minute.

Leston Paul confident Central FC can rebound; ‘Couva Sharks’ hunt win at Caledonia
ttproleague.com

Central FC are confident of snapping a two-game losing slide in the Digicel Pro League while improving their chances at retaining the league crown when the “Couva Sharks” visit Morvant Caledonia United from 7pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Tuesday.

The “Couva Sharks”, whose coaching staff includes coach Dale Saunders and former England-based professionals Brent Sancho and Stern John as assistant coaches, had boasted a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but have stumbled in recent times with losses against Police FC (1-0) and W Connection (1-0) in the league and last Friday’s 4-2 loss against the “Savonetta Boys” in the semi-final round of the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield, which Central are holders.

Central, however, continues to lead the 2015/16 league standings by three points with one more game than, in descending order, title contenders W Connection, Defence Force and San Juan Jabloteh, who have four league games left.

“We haven’t won anything yet [this season], but we are still focused on the bigger prizes, which are to win the league and qualify for next season’s Concacaf Champions League,” said Central midfielder and captain Leston Paul whose side will join W Connection in Haiti at the end of April in the final round of the Caribbean Club Championship, which serves as the Caribbean qualifying tournament to the Concacaf Champions League.

“We (Central) haven’t lost any confidence because of the recent losses,” added the former Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 and Under-20 World Cup captain. “It’s minor mistakes that cost us. It’s not like teams outplayed us. We now have to focus more and not make those same mistakes.

“The plan is to win the next game [against Caledonia] and take it one game at a time. It’s a long season and of course there would be a dip. I doubt anyone expected us to stay unbeaten for the rest of the season. The aim now is to bounce back.”

Caledonia were on the wrong end of 2-1, 4-0 and 2-1 results against Central, in all competitions this season, but “Eastern Stallions” have shown they are a different side by recently climbing out of the qualifying round and all the way to next Sunday’s Lucozade Sport Goal final against W Connection.

Connection, three points behind Central on the league table and one point ahead of Defence Force and San Juan Jabloteh, will host the “San Juan Kings” from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday following a 6pm kick-off between Club Sando and Police.

Defence Force will tackle North East Stars from 9pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium following the Caledonia versus Central clash.

And on Wednesday St. Ann’s Rangers and Point Fortin Civic will meet in a bottom-of-the-table clash from 4pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Central go four points clear in league; Jabloteh climb second
ttproleague.com

Central FC renewed their bid to retain the Digicel Pro League crown with a 3-0 win over 10-man Morvant Caledonia United on Tuesday night to go four points clear at the top after challengers W Connection were edged 1-0 by San Juan Jabloteh.

Jabloteh, chasing a top-two finish this season to secure a Concacaf Champions League qualifying spot, can now eye the league crown from the view in second position with 45 points thanks to an 86th-minute Tyrone Charles goal against the “Savonetta Boys” at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

But it will be a hard climb for coach Keith Jeffrey's “San Juan Kings” with three games left in the title race and Central on 49 points with a game in hand, not forgetting Connection and Defence Force are still within striking distance for a top-two finish with 43 and 42 points in third and fourth, respectively.

Defence Force, like Connection, also suffered a 1-0 loss to slip a spot as fifth-positioned North East Stars (41 points) celebrated their sixth straight league win under coach Ross Russell thanks to a first half strike from in-form forward Kerry Baptiste in the first game of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Baptiste beat goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke from close up with a half volley, after the Army defence failed to clear on a free-kick sent into the area, for his eight league goal from six games since returning to the Stars in the January/February transfer window.

Defence Force dominated the second half but former target, goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel, stood unbeatable between the sticks for the Stars.

Samuel, another transfer window signing by North East Stars, was magnificent; the former Trinidad and Tobago Youth World Cup goalie's performance included twice denying Russell's son Russell Russell Jr. and Jerwyn Balthazar to preserve his side slim lead all the way to the end.

In the second game of the Port-of-Spain double-header, Central entered on a two-game league losing spell – which ended a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions – as well as last Friday's disappointing semi-final round loss to Connection in the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield, and were determined to ditch their recent form.

But it wasn't until Caledonia, Sunday's finalist against Connection in the title game of the 2016 Lucozade Sport Goal Shield, were reduced to 10 men early in the second half, that the “Couva Sharks” proved superior to their opponents.

Marcus Joseph, Darren Mitchell and substitute Nicholas Dillon were all on target in the second half to return Central to winning ways.

Caledonia defender Ranaldo Bailey saw red two minutes into the second half following his second yellow card of the game for a foul on Central forward Marcus Joseph near the side line.

Joseph later put Central in front 1-0 with his 14th league goal this season when he beat goalkeeper Phillip on 66 minutes after a couple exchanges with Jason Marcano to shred the Caledonia defence apart.

Phillip, who earlier produced three excellent saves to deny Central forward Ricardo John, was beaten a second time when Darren Mitchell blasted into his far netting for the 2-0 "Couva Sharks" lead in the 80th minute.

Eight minutes earlier John, who headed wide on the “Sharks”’ best first half chance in the 20th minute off a Kevon Villaroel cross, spilled overbar off his thigh at the goalmouth before being replaced by Kadeem Corbin.

However it was an earlier substitute Nicholas Dillon who grabbed Central's third item to complete the 3-0 win.

Dillon headed powerfully past Phillip after Corbin headed on a Villaroel cross.

Also on Tuesday, sixth-positioned Police FC defeated Club Sando 5-3 in the first game at the Couva double-header.

Police forward Makesi Lewis took his tally at the top of the league scorers list this season to 20 goals, completing a double with a go-head goal on 58 minutes before Dylon King completed the “Lawmen” victory in the 90th minute.

Sando had equalised on three occasions, prior, with forward Devon Modeste netting twice and Shaquille Holder once in a see-saw contest that also had Police forwards Kareem Freitas and Keon Wilson on the scoresheet.

Action continues today (Wednesday) with St. Ann's Rangers against Point Fortin Civic in a bottom-of-the-table clash at the Larry Gomes Stadium from 4pm.

W Connection 0 vs San Juan Jabloteh 1 (Tyrone Charles 86'), at the Ato Boldon Stadium;

Civic snaps losing streak; Central can go seven points clear with win against Sando.
ttproleague.com.

Jamille Boatswain came off the bench to score twice in the second half to help Civic hold off St. Ann’s Rangers 4-2 in a bottom-of-the-table Digicel Pro League clash at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday as the Point Fortin club snapped a six-game losing streak in all competitions.

The result put Civic up a spot with 19 points, hurdling Morvant Caledonia United – Sunday’s opponents against W Connection in the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield 2016 final – for eight position, while Rangers remain at the bottom of the 10-team DPL standings with 14 points.

On the opposite end of the ladder, defending champions Central FC are four points clear at the summit with a chance to open a seven-point gap when the “Couva Sharks” tackle seventh-positioned Club Sando from 7pm on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in a rescheduled Round Three game, after which there are three games left in the in the title race.

Civic took the lead three minutes before the break through mid-season forward signing Juma Clarence and following second half goals by midfielder Akeem Redhead and forward Boatswain, the southerners were three goals up 15 minutes to the end.

Rangers, who were previously unbeaten against Civic this season – 2-1 and 1-1, stormed back with a goal each from substitutes Johan Peltier and Anselm “Worm” Jackson to reduce the deficit to one goal.

But Boatswain ended Rangers fight on the 90th minute, completing his double and the Civic win with his seventh league goal this season.

Clarence, the 27-year-old former Trinidad and Tobago Youth World Cup player, fired past Rangers goalkeeper Christopher Biggette from just inside the area in the 42nd minute, giving Civic the physiological advantage into the break.

Rangers’ coach Angus Eve responded at the restart with the introduction of Peltier and Jackson, and within the first minute on, the talented pair forced Civic goalkeeper Miles Goodman into two saves.

Goodman was forced into action again in the 66th minute when he put behind an attempt from Jackson, and from the resulting corner Peltier headed overbar.

Civic coach Leroy De Leon, aware of the danger, counterattacked by introducing Boatswain, who less than a minute onto the pitch forced Biggette into a save.

Then from the resulting corner swung in by Shackiel Henry, winger Redhead doubled the visitors lead 2-0 on 72 minutes.

Boatswain then fired in his first of the afternoon for a 3-0 Civic cushion in the 75th minute by capitalising on a rebound after Biggette was tested from distance by Henry.

But Rangers fired back twice in a space of twelve minutes to reduce the deficit 2-3 after Peltier bundled a Keron Cornwall cross into the back of the net in the 77th minute and Jackson pounced on a rebound to score after Goodman had dived to his left to keep out a Cornwall attempt in the 88th minute.

And had Jameel Antoine not missed the far upper corner in the 82nd minute following a feed from Jackson in the area, Rangers could have been level.

However it was all over for the St. Ann’s club in the final minute of regulation time when Boatswain, picked out by substitute Tigana Sparks, hammered his second beyond Biggette to end the game 4-2.

Marcano hits hat-trick against Sando as 'Couva Sharks' sink teeth into Digicel Pro League crown.
ttproleague.com.

Marcano! Marcano! Marcano! Central FC can dance to their fundraising boat party, “Bitten”, on Saturday night aboard the Habour Master after stretching a seven-point lead at the top of the Digicel Pro League to move within one win from retaining the crown.

Jason Marcano scored three times for the defending champions before substitute Kadeem Corbin completed a 4-1 rout over 10-man Club Sando in their rescheduled Round Three fixture on Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium to take their 2015/16 points tally to 52 points with three games left in the title race.

San Juan Jabloteh, who must face Central when the league resumes in May, are second with 45 points and currently stands with the best mathematical chance at hurdling the “Couva Sharks” for top spot. Central will complete their games against North East Stars and St. Ann’s Rangers.

W Connection are third with 43 points, followed by Defence Force (42 points) and North East Stars (41 points).

Central coach Dale Saunders made no changes to his starting line-up that defeated Morvant Caledonia United 3-0 on Tuesday, to return to winning ways after a two-game losing spell in the league, and it paid off.

Marcano scored his first in the 35th minute to hand Central a 1-0 lead which the “Sharks” held to the break.

Marcano, who had gotten close twice earlier and had an effort kept out by Kelvin Henry, beat the Sando goalie on the rebound after Henry had blocked out an attempt from Ricardo John.

Henry was well-positioned a minute before the break to keep out a Sean De Silva attempt following a feed from John. And well into the second half the Sando shot-stopper was brilliant again, putting behind a strike from above the box by Corbin.

But from the resulting corner kick, Marcano headed past Henry at the back post to give Central a 2-0 cushion in the 64th minute after De Silva's cross had beaten a handful of players.

Sando were halfway back four minutes later when midfielder Akeem Humphrey thumped a low strike to beat goalkeeper Akel Clarke from the top of the area – slicing the deficit 1-2.

However Marcano completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute with his 12th league goal this season to put his side 3-1 ahead.

Marcano pounced on a back pass by Sando defender Kevon Neaves and showed excellent fortitude, after being hacked down outside the box by Henry, to spring to life again and enter the area with the ball before firing into an open net.

Sando’s troubles worsened a minute later when Grenada national team defender Shannon Phillip saw red for a dangerous tackle on Central substitute forward Nicholas Dillon.

The night, however, was not over for Sando and their goalkeeper Henry who made a stoppage-time save to deny De Silva after Dillion had knocked down a Marcano cross to the onrushing midfielder.

Central finally found their fourth goal in the second minute of stoppage-time for the 4-1 finish when Corbin slid in to put a Dillon strike over the line after the latter had rounded goalkeeper Henry.

Central will next focus on their Caribbean crown defence, when they travel to Haiti next week for the final round of the Caribbean Club Championship 2016 along with last season's runners-up W Connection.

Connection will take on Jamaica's Arnett Gardens and Central are against host club Don Bosco FC in the semi-final round on Friday April 29 at the Stade Sylvio Cato, with both winners securing Concacaf Champions League spots for the 2016/17 season.

The Caribbean final, and third place play-off which will determine the third and final Caribbean spot at the Concacaf Champions League, will be contested on Sunday May 1.

Central are hosting Saturday's (tonight) "Bitten" boat party as part of their fundraising efforts to travel to Haiti next week. Boarding for the Harbour Master begins at 11pm and returns at 3am. Persons interested in tickets – which cost $200 – are asked to contact the club’s Facebook page Central FC Fan Club.

W Connection, meanwhile, are after their third major domestic title this season – after the First Citizens Cup and Toyota Classic – when they take on Caledonia in the final of the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield 2016 from 6pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday April 24.
