The defending champions, Central F.C. more or less retained their title following a command performance over Club Sando at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Friday night.

^^ Smh! This game was at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in POS, so is it a home game for which team? Again Pro League teams need to get engaged in their local communities so they can develop a hardcore fanbase instead of this wishful thinking that playing games at the National Stadium or popular venues will bring support. This has been a failed strategy for years!

Once you reach out into your local communities and develop your hardcore fan base then fans will come out at your local community football park or football stadium (if its located in the town you representing) and then this home vs away fixtures will start making sense.

The Pro League is the one that decides where games are played based on availability of fields. Rightly or wrongly (mostly wrongly) for years that home and away aspect is just a system used to control who organizes the expenses of hosting a match. Nothing else really.

Teams would love community fields but little to none are up to standard or are simply unavailable. They are controlled by the regional corps and I imagine in some cases its a bureaucratic merry go round. Praise be at least Jabloteh got permission and access to Barataria.

Kerry Baptiste double lifts North East Stars to seventh straight league win; Defence Force move into second
ttproleague.com

Overlooked Trinidad and Tobago forward Kerry Baptiste continued his brilliant scoring form with a double to lead North East Stars to a seventh consecutive Digicel Pro League win by defeating Morvant Caledonia United 3-1 on Tuesday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The 34-year-old Baptiste scored on either side of the break – his second coming from the penalty spot – to put his league scoring this season to 11 goals from seven games in Stars colours and near a return to the top of the Pro League all-time scoring chart.

Perhaps alerted by the danger, 32-year-old Devorn Jorsling who currently leads the all-time scoring chart after jumping Baptiste a year ago, scored the decisive goal – his first league goal in two months – in Defence Force's 3-2 win over Police FC in the second game of the Port-of-Spain double-header to put his all-time tally at 144 goals.

But with Baptiste (142) just two goals behind and on an incredible run with two league games left, the rivalry between two of the league’s all-time top scorers has been renewed.

Defence Force (45 points) jumped two spots up the DPL standings into second behind leaders Central FC (52 points), but only ahead of San Juan Jabloteh (45 points), who have a game in hand, by goal-difference and one point ahead of North East Stars (44 points), who jumped a spot into fourth.

North East Stars, however, leads the DPL third round with maximum 21 points from 7 games and could be on their way to securing their maiden Kevon Carter (Round Three) trophy under coach Ross Russell.

Baptiste fired North East Stars in front, 1-0, after 26 minutes, hitting past Caledonia goalkeeper Marvin Phillip from a rebound after the T&T national senior team shot-stopper had blocked out a blast from Anthony Guppy.

Baptiste, who went close early in both halves, made it 2-0 in the 58th-minute by beating Phillip from the penalty spot after Guppy was brought down in the area by defender Leslie Russell.

The former Pro League/Toyota Player of the Year was later denied his hat-trick by the crossbar in the 63rd minute after lifting an effort over Phillip, but boasts scoring in six of his seven league appearances for the Sangre Grande club since his return in the January/February transfer window from Central.

Caledonia, finding it difficult against the movement of North East Stars, turned to the introduction of new signing and former Stars’ forward Jomoul Francois – now at his third club this season after a brief stint with St. Ann’s Rangers – at the start of the second period and regulars Akim Armstrong and Robert Primus later on.

But it was Stars’ substitute Chike Sullivan who replaced Baptiste with ten minutes left that celebrated scoring after just three minutes on the pitch. The former T&T youth World Cup midfielder made it 3-0 in favour of Russell’s men with a tap in after scramble and failure to clear by the Caledonia defence.

The ninth-positioned Caledonia did eventually find a consolation item when substitute Akim Armstrong’s header in the 90th minute clipped the underside of the crossbar before bouncing inside goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel’s goal for a 3-1 finish.

In the second game at the Port-of-Spain venue, Police failed to make the best of a first half one-goal lead in a feisty battle-of-the-forces which could have ended in a red card sending off of the Police defender Jibri Mc David.

David had elbowed Hashim Arcia near assistant referee Caleb Wales but, infuriating the Defence Force bench, referee Marlon Perouse only flashed the yellow card to the defender.

Clevon Mc Fee had given Police a 1-0 first half lead with a 13th-minute left-footed strike into goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke’s far netting after latching onto a pass in the area from Makesi Lewis.

The goalscorer was denied a second three minutes later when Clarke matched his curling strike, directed at the far upper corner, with a one-handed save.

Police however allowed their marginal lead to slip a minute-and-a-half inside the second half when a deflected left-footed crack Hashim Arcia gave goalkeeper Kern Caesar little chance, putting the score at 1-1.

It was the start of a miserable night for Caesar, who started in absence of first choice ‘keeper Adrian Foncette who is currently in Spain to witness Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City via a Heineken (an official sponsor of the UCL) promotion.

Caesar was beaten again in the 57th-minute when Defence Force winger Jemel Sebro poked a shot over the line for a 2-1 lead after the Police defence and ‘keeper failed to clear a low Ross Russell Jr. cross.

The “Lawmen” did manage to level the score 2-2 in the 67th minute when forward Jameel Perry hit low to beat Clarke after a Makesi Lewis caused some trouble for the Army defence.

But two minutes later Jorsling snatched the game winner when he headed past Caesar from close up for a 3-2 Defence Force win after Glynn Franklyn had headed a Marvin Jones corner back across the area.

Elsewhere, Club Sando defeated Point Fortin Civic 2-0 in a bottom-of-the-table clash at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Devon Modeste opened the scoring in the 37th-minute and Jesse Downing completed the win in the 78th-minute to put Sando on 30 points in seventh where they will finish at the end of their debut DPL season, with Police on 37 points in sixth and Civic on 19 points in eight with two games left.

Hashim Arcia sinks Connection

Hashim Arcia sinks Connection; Defence Force and Jabloteh maintain push for 2017 CONCACAF Champions League qualifying spot
ttproleague.com

Hashim Arcia struck eleven minutes from time at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday night to celebrate his first goal against former employers W Connection to give Defence Force FC a crucial 1-0 win in the final push for a 2017/18 CONCACAF Champions League qualifying spot.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder executed a low right-footer beyond goalkeeper Julani Archibald and off the far upright to break the deadlock against the ‘Savonetta Boys” he had served for five years before switching to Defence Force this season.

With Digicel Pro League holders Central FC (52 points) four points clear at the summit with three games in hand and only a win away from repeating as league champions, four teams – Defence Force, San Juan Jabloteh, North East Stars and W Connection – were left in a squeeze for a top-two finish which qualifies teams into the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, which also serves as the Caribbean qualifier tournament towards the CONCACAF Champions League.

Central, who recently repeated as Caribbean champions and will be joined by W Connection and Haiti’s Don Bosco FC at the 2016/17 CONCACAF Champions League, will attempt to secure the DPL repeat by Sunday with a win against North East Stars at the Mannie Ramjoh Stadium (kick-off time 4pm).

But North East Stars (44 points), led by former Central coach Ross Russell, are on a seven-game winning streak in the league and, like the teams above them, the “Sangre Grande Stars” are hoping to keep alive their chances at the highly sought-after CONCACAF Champions League qualifying spot.

Inspired by the recent goal-scoring feat of Kerry Baptiste, North East Stars are chasing maximum points against Central and Jabloteh in their remaining league fixtures, while Connection (43 points) have remaining games against Club Sando and cellar-positioned St. Ann’s Rangers.

Defence Force (48 points), with full points earned against Connection, returned to second position on the league standings but only ahead of third-positioned San Juan Jabloteh on a superior goal-difference, after the “San Juan Kings” had temporarily leapfrogged the Army/Coast Guard combination with a 4-1 hammering of Club Sando in the earlier game at the Couva venue.

Marvin Gordon’s Defence Force have just one remaining game against Morvant Caledonia United, while Jabloteh with remaining games against North East Stars and Central face a tough road to the end but have six points to play for and the best mathematical chance of securing a top-two finish after the “Couva Sharks”.

Jabloteh midfielder Keyon Edwards made the best of a rare start in recent months by scoring a double – netting on either side of the break from distance – while forward Jamal Gay and winger Nathan Lewis finished with a goal each in the Keith Jeffrey coached-side’s eighth league win from a 9-game unbeaten streak in the DPL.

Edwards, who last scored on January 12 in a 3-2 win over Point Fortin Civic and only had two goals to his name this season prior to kick-off, fired off the post from distance to put Jabloteh 1-0 ahead after 15 minutes and a missed penalty strike by Jamaican Adrian Reid five minutes earlier.

Reid (A), usually clinical from the spot, rolled his effort wide of goalkeeper Jason Belfon’s upright after Nathan Lewis was brought down in the area by defender Kemuel Rivers.

Jabloteh then grabbed a 2-0 cushion in the 36th-minute when forward Jamal Gay snapped a two-month dry spell by executing a cool finish past a hapless Belfon for his ninth league goal after shrugging off a challenge from defender Corneal Thomas to win a deep pass and enter the area.

Sando, who have already consolidated their seventh position finish in their DPL debut season, pulled a goal back in stoppage-time of the first half through forward Devon Modeste who controlled a Shaquille Holder cross off his chest before slipping beyond two challengers and slapping home past goalkeeper Andrew Durant for a 1-2 deficit.

But Edwards, with a cool finish from distance off a short corner by winger Tyrone Charles, sailed the ball beyond goalkeeper Belfon for a 3-1 Jabloteh lead to complete his double.

Charles, completely unmarked, missed his opportunity to join the scoresheet on 68 minutes when he headed wide of the upright off substitute forward Brent Sam’s perfectly placed cross.

Then in stoppage-time Nathan Lewis, who was denied by the upright in the 72th-minute, made it 4-1 by curling the ball beyond Belfon for his 13th league goal this season after a move down the flank and weaving past defenders Kevon Neaves and Moron Phillip to enter the area.

But the night still young to celebrate, and in the 79th-minute of the second game Arcia broke the deadlock against Connection for only his second league goal this season to put Defence Force ahead.

Arcia, who had sliced an effort high seven minutes inside the second half off a deflected Devorn Jorsling pass, redeemed himself following a move involving Jorsling and feed from Akeem Roach.

Roach had best chance of the earlier half with two bites of the cherry in the 8th-minute from just outside the six-yard area but Connection defender Alvin Jones got his body across the goal to deflect the midfielder’s second attempt over for a corner.

Connection, minus head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier who is believed to be away on personal matters, also stood without midfielder Hughtun Hector and forward Shahdon Winchester while attacking midfielder Jomal Williams was scratched from the starting eleven but entered off the bench in the second half.

Connection’s front line of Grenada international Jamal Charles, Suriname international Dimitrie Apai and St. Lucian Malik St. Prix failed to pack the much needed punch, until late.

However Defence Force goalie Sheldon Clarke was invincible, shutting out a close range blast from St. Prix in the 75th-minute and another point blank save against the St. Lucian in the 83rd-minute before making a crucial stop two minutes later when he won the ball at midfielder Briel Thomas’ feet following a Connection free kick into the area.

Defence Force substitute Richard Roy had the last best chance of the contest in stoppage-time but Archibald brilliantly matched the forward’s effort towards the near post.

Elsewhere Morvant Caledonia United (21 points) whipped home side Point Fortin Civic (19 points) 3-0 to leapfrog the southerners for eight position on the league standings.

Jamaal Harvey opened the scoring in the 24th-minute for the recent Lucozade Sport Goal Shield champions at the Mahaica Oval before Akim Armstrong converted from the penalty spot in the 45th-minute. Kyle Bartholomew wrapped up the win with an 88th minute item.

Central FC retains Digicel Pro League crown.
ttproleague.com.

Jason Marcano leads ‘Couva Sharks’ to $1 million Pro League title repeat with two games to spare

Central FC were crowned the 2015/16 Digicel Pro League champions on Sunday with two games to spare after a comprehensive 4-0 win over North East Stars at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium put the “Couva Sharks” at an unassailable 55 points.

Veteran forward Jason Marcano netted a brace – his second item scored from the penalty spot – and after a goal each from defensive midfielder Jamal Jack and full-back Kevon Villaroel, the die was cast; the league title – which carries with it TT$1 million – remained in the hands of Central.

Stars, meanwhile, on 44 points and having their seven-game winning streak in the league snapped, saw an end to their efforts for the highly sort after CONCACAF Champions League qualifying spot which is awarded to the top-two finishing teams who will contest next season’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, which qualifies three Caribbean clubs to the CCL.

Central, who recently repeated as Caribbean Club champions, entered the annals of the professional era of Trinidad and Tobago football by becoming only the third club after W Connection (2000 & 2001) and San Juan Jabloteh (2002 & 2003 / 2007 & 2008) to successfully defend the domestic league crown.

“We really wanted to defend our Caribbean and Pro League titles and the players are deserving champions,” Central FC’s Dale Saunders told ttproleague.com. “Credit to the players for working really hard throughout the season. Credit to the management and staff who have a great chemistry in putting our heads together with the players and we have been able to get the job done.”

Saunders said the “Couva Sharks” have the quality above other teams with a good mixture of youth and experience.

“We (Central) had no doubt in retaining our league title,” added the 42-year-old former Trinidad and Tobago international now with his first league championship as head coach. “We always believed in the players and the quality we have in the camp, and we knew that once we kept our heads together we would (get) the job done.”

Central midfielder and captain Leston Paul told ttproleague.com, “We truly deserve [winning both the Caribbean Club Championship and Pro League titles]. It's a long season with lots of ups and downs but [our] players were willing to work hard every day in sticking with the team’s goals [to repeat as Caribbean and Pro League champions].”

Last season Central became the sixth club in the history of the professional era (1999 to present) to win the league. Now under the charge of former assistant coach Saunders, the “Couva Sharks” are celebrating again as league champions while second-positioned Defence Force and third-placed Jabloteh, both on 48 points, are left to challenge for the final CCL qualifiers spot.

Defence Force have just one remaining game against Morvant Caledonia while Jabloteh have six points to play with fixtures against North East Stars and Central.

Marcano handed Central a 1-0 lead on 37 minutes, which lasted into the break, after he lifted a deflected Kaydion Gabriel cross over Stars goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel who hesitated twice before being stranded off the line.

But it was Stars, coached by former Central coach Ross Russell, who started the brighter of the two sides on the sunny afternoon on the pristine Marabella venue surface with forward Kerry Baptiste hitting the back of the net twice – but both goals were overturned due to infringements (offside and foul on goalkeeper Javon Sample respectively) – before his luck ran sour again when he struck the upright; all within the first 22 minutes.

Samuel kept the Stars’ deficit at a minimum towards the half with saves against Sean De Silva, Jack and Darren Mitchell and the “Sangre Grande Stars”.

But Marcano doubled his scoring to give Central a 2-0 cushion after 56 minutes, hitting into the top corner of Samuel’s netting from the penalty spot.

Referee Rashby Mc Phie awarded the kick after Sean De Silva was brought down from behind by defender Glenton Wolfe inside the area after running almost 30 yards towards goal after a neat one-two with Marcano to break free.

“It was today or no other day,” said Marcano after the game. “And we are happy to seal the title today.”

The former Jabloteh league winner credited “team chemistry” for the league success which will now allow younger players more playing time in the two remaining league fixtures against St. Ann’s Rangers and Jabloteh.

Commenting on the comfortable 4-0 win against the Stars, Marcano said, “It was only a matter of time before we got into our momentum to get the result. Every team come out to put their best but we were the better team today – all season (chuckles).”

Central put the game further out of Stars’ reach on the hour mark with a 3-0 score when Jack curled a sweet strike out of Samuel's reach and into the top corner after a feed from Mitchell.

Then came goal number 4 (-0) on 69 minutes when Villaroel smashed a left-footed strike past Samuel after De Silva knocked down Marcano’s cross inside the area after a trip by Keryn Navarro had allowed the latter win the ball and run free towards the left of the area.

Marcano missed out on his hat trick three minutes later, hitting over-bar after he was played through by Jack, and seven minutes from time, substitute Ricardo John saw his attempt cleared away at the goal mouth by Stars defender Kion Joseph.

Both sides will meet again on Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the Digicel Pro Bowl which Central are holders.

“I expect it to be a tough game again,” predicts Central FC midfielder and captain Leston Paul. “Today they came out well but I think we suffocate them with the goal near the end of the first half and then in the second half took advantage of some more chances and took over the game from there.”

Also on Sunday, Police FC edged cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers 1-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium through a late Kareem Freitas strike – the forward’s 13th league goal this season – to put the sixth-positioned “Lawmen” on 40 points.

Both sides will return to play on Tuesday in the Pro Bowl quarterfinal round with Police to tackle W Connection and Rangers against Jabloteh.

Jamal Gay brace puts Jabloteh in command of final CONCACAF qualifiers spot.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh survived a late clawback attempt by Central FC, edging the 2015/16 Digicel Pro League champions 3-2, to command the final of two spots to next season’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, which also serves as the qualifier tournament to the prestigious CONCACAF Champions League.

The win hurdled Jabloteh (51 points) over Defence Force (48 points) for second spot on the DPL standings. Now a draw for coach Keith Jeffrey’s side against North East Stars in their final game on Saturday from 4pm at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium will seal the top-two finish and a return to the CFU Club Championship.

The win also put Jabloteh one point ahead of North East Stars for the Kevon Carter trophy which is awarded to the team with the highest points tally from Round Three in the DPL.

However, a win for Defence Force against Morvant Caledonia United in their final game on Saturday from 4pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium, coupled by a loss for the “San Juan Kings” against the Stars, can lift the Army/Coast Guard combination – boasting a superior goal-difference – to a second place finish in the league behind Central (55 points), who have qualified for a third consecutive CFU Club Championship.

Jabloteh entered Tuesday’s rescheduled DPL fixture at the Hasely Crawford Stadium aware a slip-up would favour Defence Force’s ambitions for the highly sort after top-two finish.

But a first half brace from forward Jamal Gay after teammate Fabian Reid opened Jabloteh’s scoring for a 3-0 lead before the half hour mark, made sure the slip-up didn’t happen, although Central had rebounded from the sluggish first half performance and a dismissed penalty shout just before the break to score twice from the penalty spot within the last 10 minutes.

Reid (F) single-handedly gave Jabloteh a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the contest, slipping the ball through the legs of Central third choice goalkeeper Javon Sample after wrong-siding defender Keion Goodridge for his first goal since March 9 in a 3-0 win over Caledonia. It was the Jamaican midfielder’s 5th league goal and eighth in all competitions this season.

Then it was from Reid’s strike in the 16th minute off a Tyrone Charles cross, that Gay slapped in from close range to cushion Jabloteh 2-0 against a depleted Central side.

Gay then completed his double by the 27th-minute thanks to a poor goal-kick from Sample who played the ball at the forward feet less than 30 yards out. Gay raced towards goal before hitting past Sample for his 10th league goal this season and twelfth in all competitions.

Central without six regulars including first choice goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams and captain Leston Paul, featured a starting line-up that included Kadeen Corbin, Nicholas Dillon and Ricardo John up front while veteran attacker Jason Marcano was overwhelmed in midfield before being replaced by Darren Mitchell almost immediately after Jabloteh’s third item.

The “Couva Sharks” finally pegged their first goal back in the 80th-minute when Corbin scored off the upright to beat goalkeeper Shemel Louison from the spot to reduce the deficit 1-3 after he was upended in the area by Keyon Edwards.

Referee Rashby Mc Phie, who dismissed a penalty appeal by Central after John was brought down by Louison moments before the break, pointed to the spot again in the 84th-minute, ruling a handball against former “Couva Sharks” defender Akeem Benjamin.

Substitute Darren Mitchell stepped up and comfortably converted from the spot to further reduce the deficit 2-3, but that stood the final score-line after a last ditched overhead attempt by Jamal Jack which surprised everyone, including Louison who was lucky to see the ball fly wide.

Simultaneously at the Ato Boldon Stadium, W Connection were celebrating a 3-0 win over cellar-positioned St. Ann’s Rangers in another rescheduled fixture.

Suriname forward Dimitrie Apai scored twice, netting in the 17th and 52nd minutes, before St. Lucia international Kurt Frederick wrapped up the scoring in the 62nd minute. The win lifted coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s side one spot up into fourth position with 46 points ahead of their final league game against Club Sando from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium after Central take on Rangers from 6pm to complete their fixtures.

Jabloteh clinch CFU return; ‘San Juan Kings’ snatch Kevon Carter trophy along with second place Pro League finish.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh will mark their return to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship – the qualifier tournament to the CONCACAF Champions League – for the first time seven years when they contest the 2017 edition.

This after the former Caribbean champions cemented a top-two finish behind champions Central FC in the 2015-16 Digicel Pro League (DPL) by plucking a 1-0 win over fifth-positioned North East Stars at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium on the final day (Saturday) courtesy a second half Tyrone Charles strike.

Jabloteh, undefeated in their last nine league games with 8 wins and one draw, finished with 54 points – four points behind Central (58 points), who were recently crowned, for a second consecutive time, CFU and DPL champions.

Jabloteh, 2003 CFU champions, last competed at the Caribbean tournament in 2010 when they finished third behind champions Puerto Rico Islanders and runners-up Joe Public.

“This shows the club (Jabloteh) and the management made a good decision in putting me here to get Jabloteh back into CFU,” said Keith Jeffrey, who was installed as technical director/head coach when Jabloteh resumed operations for the 2013-14 season following a one-year hiatus due to financial strains after main sponsor CL Financial went into receivership.

Jabloteh, the four-time (2002, 2003, 2007 & 2008) Pro League champions, finished second from bottom on their Pro League return but Jeffrey led the “San Juan Kings” to an improved sixth-position finish in 2014-15. Now after his third season in charge the San Juan club, Jabloteh for the first time since 2009 are celebrating a top-two finish — Jeffrey becoming the club’s first local coach to do so in Trinidad and Tobago professional era.

Defence Force (49 points), the only team on the final day with a virtual chance of hurdling Jabloteh for the high sought-after CONCACAF Champions League qualifiers spot, finished third, only ahead of W Connection (49 points), who they face in the Digicel Pro Bowl 2016 final on May 27, by a single goal-difference (+31/+30), after rallying from behind to a 1-1 draw with Morvant Caledonia United on Saturday.

The win in Marabella also saw the Jeffrey coached-Jabloteh hold off North East Stars, 25-21 points, to claim the Kevon Carter trophy which is awarded to the team with the highest points tally from Round Three in the DPL.

“As a former Jabloteh player, they (the Jabloteh directors) knew I had the Jabloteh blood in me,” explained the 54-year-old Jeffrey. “Now the board is happy. I am happy from my achievement because the club’s plan was always, within three years, to return to CFU.”

The Jabloteh coach thanked club boss Jerry Hospidales and CEO Azaad Khan for their confidence in appointing him as coach. He also thanked the club’s board for their unwavering support in allowing him freedom “so that success can happen.”

Jeffrey said his success in the past with San Juan North Secondary in secondary schools league, “winning two national titles (InterCol and Big Five) and five zonal titles demonstrated my ability as a coach, and because of the close relationship between Jabloteh and the school, it helped in my appointment as Jabloteh coach. I am also the only coach since 1974 to achieve two national titles with San Juan (North Secondary).”

Jeffrey added that working alongside former Jabloteh coaches, Brazilian Ronaldo Borba and England’s Ricky Hill and Terry Fenwick, helped in his development as a coach.

On Saturday, Tyrone Charles’ deflected goal on the hour mark stood the only goal of the game but Jeffrey believes Jabloteh should have ended with a handful against the Sangre Grande outfit.

“While we needed just a draw [to fulfil our ambitions] we didn’t play that way …we played for the win,” said Jeffrey. “What surprised me though, was that North East Stars didn’t give it a better fight being a team that have done so well in the league in the last couple months. I was happy with our result but we should have scored nothing less than four or five goals.”

Jamaican midfielder Fabian Reid was denied twice in the fifth minute by former Jabloteh goalkeeper Shane Mattis, denying his fellow countryman with a double-save.

But Mattis was unfortunate in the 60th-minute when he was left wrong-sided by Charles’ strike which took a wicked deflection off the boot of defender Kern Navarro.

Grenadian Shemel Louison, one of a handful of foreigners including Jamaica’s Damian Williams and Adrian Reid and Grenada’s Garth Thomas in Jabloteh’s squad, made an excellent save two minutes from time to preserve his side’s marginal lead when he keep out a header from Stars’ substitute Jean-Luc Rochford.

“I am proud of my players all season,” continued Jeffrey. “But while I have a very good group of players, the team aren’t balanced. So now that we are back in CFU and want to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League, it’s my intention to add about five quality players next season so that we can have balance in the team to compete at CFU while operating at the Pro League because the ambition is to go one step further next season by winning the league title.”

Jeffrey hinted that his 2016-17 season signing targets are former Jabloteh players who presently represent top clubs in the Pro League.

Also on Saturday, Point Fortin Civic saved their best for last when they defeated visiting Police FC 5-0 at the Mahaica Oval for their biggest win of the season. The win, only Civic’s third in the last 12 games in all competitions, hurdled the Point Fortin club over Caledonia, both on 22 points, for an eighth-position finish by a single goal difference (-28/-29).
