NAPS STAY HOT  :)

There is no stopping Naparima College its seems as the defending BGTT/Firt Citizens SSFL Premer Division champs chalked up another impressive win on Wednesday. Naps came to the Mucurapo Road home ground of Fatima College and left with all of the points.

Agard fires Scarborough to top in Tobago.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Kareem Agard helped himself to a hat-trick as Scarborough Secondary blasted cellar-placed Roxborough 5-2 to regain top spot in the Tobago Zone of BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Football League Championship Division. Kellon James and Jayie Sheppard added a goal each for Scarborough while Mihirie Malchan and Kyle George got consolation items for Roxborough.

With the victory, Scarborough climbed back to the top of the seven-team standings with 21 points from nine matches two more than Signal Hill which has a match in hand. On Tuesday, Signal Hill briefly took charge of the table when Marlon Kerr netted an 86th minute winner, in  a 1-0 triumph over host Mason Hall.

Also on Tuesday in the Tobago Zone, Jabari Francis scored two minutes into stoppage time for Pentecostal Light & Life to earn a 1-1 draw with Goodwood which had taken a first minute lead through via Javon Williams.

Today, East Mucurapo (North Zone) and Pleasantville (South Zone) will have a chance to clinch their respective zonal titles to join Chaguanas North (Central) and Five Rivers (East) as qualifiers to the Championship Division “Big-Five” from which the top three teams will be promoted to the Premier Division.

In the North Zone, East Mucurapo leads the five-team with 16 points from six matches, nine more than Malick and Tranquillity which have three and two matches left to play respectively. Today, East Mucurapo is away to Tranquillity and will be crowned champions once it avoids defeat.

Pleasantville currently leads the South with 22 points from nine matches, nine clear of Vessigny which has two matches in hand.

However, with a point from its remaining match at home today with third placed Princes Town West, Pleasantville will carry its tally to an unassailable 25 points.

Tobago Results

Wednesday

Scarborough 5 (Kareem Agard 3, Kellon James, Jayie Sheppard) vs Roxborough 2 (Mihirie Malchan, Kyle George)

Tuesday

Goodwood 1 (Javon Williams 1st) vs Pentecostal L&L 1 (Jabari Francis 92nd)

Signal Hill 1 (Marlon Kerr 86th) vs Mason Hall 0

Despite playing a mostly form 3 side after losing 8 players from last year's team, my Tigers are still in the mix!  Nobody cah tell me Grovey is not ah bess yutes coach!!!
Form 3 doesn't necessarily mean 14-15 year old players. Many of these secondary schools footballers are 14-15 by 2nd form.

Even if that was the case which it isn't you still have the problem of integrating far too many outfield players to fill roles of more seasoned and in some cases more skilled players.  Not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.

Presentation College vs CIC & St Augustine vs Trinity East.

Presentation College missed a great opportunity to stay abreast of Naparima College in the BGTT/First Citizens SSFL race as they slipped to a 1-nil defeat against CIC. Meanwhile, St Augustine compounded Trinity East’s woes and the Trincity team now looks certain to be relegated into the Championship division.

Fyzabad stalls Naparima title march.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Naparima College’s march towards a successful defence of its BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football Premier Division League crown was slowed a bit after it was held to a goalless draw by fellow southerners Fyzabad at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, yesterday.

However, the statement did not hamper the Angus Eve-coached Naparima squad that much as most of its title contenders, Shiva Boys, Presentation College of San Fernando, St Anthony’s College and St Benedict’s College all failed to get full results from their encounters as well, with only San Juan North coming away with a 2-1 win over St Mary’s College.

The drawn result sees Naparima now up to 26 points from 11 matches and three left to play. Shiva Boys, which drew 1-1 away to St Anthony’s is next with 22 points, one ahead San Juan North, Presentation College of San Fernando and St Benedict’s which battled to a 0-0, and St Anthony’s.

Mid-table duo, Trinity College of Moka and Queen’s Royal College battled to a 2-2 deadlock while at the bottom of the table, cellar-placed Trinity College East got two goals each from Kishorn Hackshaw and Nickel Orr to beat Speyside 4-1, for its first win of the season; Fatima and Carapichaima East ended 0-0.

Yesterday’s Results

San Juan North 2 (Brent Sam 31st, 70th) vs St Mary’s 1 (Ethan Shim 47th)

Fatima 0 vs Carapichaima East 0

Trinity Moka 2 (Isaiah Mc Lean, Josiah Bentick) vs QRC 2 (Joash Williams 2)

Naparima 0 vs Fyzabad 0

St Benedict’s 0 vs Presentation 0

Trinity East 4 (Kishorn Hackshaw 2, Nickel Orr 2) vs Speyside 1 (Weah Adams)

St Anthony’s 1 (Kathon St Hillaire 77th) vs Shiva Boys 1 (Shaquille John 22nd)

Scarborough, Diego Martin Central, St Augustine take zonal crowns.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

The trio of Scarborough Secondary, Diego Martin Central and St Augustine Secondary were all crowned zonal champions when the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Girls Championship Division League continued on Sunday.

Over in Tobago, Aaliyah Charles got a double to take her zonal league best tally to 18 goals as Scarborough earned a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Bishop’s High and with it, an unassailable 21 points tally from seven matches with one match left to play.

Bishop’s High took a 1-0 lead into the break through Alliyah Akili’s 30th minute opener, but Charles got Scarborough level in the 50th before she netted the decisive item in the 70th to set up a National “Big-Four” semifinal clash with the South Zone winner, Fyzabad/Pt Fortin East on Thursday at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 3 pm.

In the day’s other match, Signal Hill crushed Speyside 7-1 to cement its hold on second spot with 15 points, three more than Mason Hall with a match left for both teams as well.

At St Mary’s College ground, Serpentine Road, St Clair, Digeo Martin Central eked out a 1-0 win over Bishop’s Anstey for its eighth win in nine matches, and 25 points, ten more than its opponent which has three matches to play, but can only reach 24 points. Diego Martin Central now meets East Zone winner, St Augustine in the other National "Big-Four" semifinal at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar from 3 pm.

In the East Zone, St Augustine went into its match against cellar-placed St George’s at Barataria needing a point, and came out 6-0 victors to end their six-match campaign with 13 points, two more than Bishop’s Anstey East.

Down South, the title could well be decided today at Naparima College Ground, Lewis Street, San Fernando, when Fyzabad (21 points) comes up against second placed Pt Fortin East which is three points behind, in the first of their two head-to-head clashes to end the zonal campaign.

On Sunday, Fyzabad racked up a seventh straight win by trouncing St Joseph Convent (San Fernando) 3-0 while Pt Fortin East kept its hopes alive by hammering San Fernando East 6-0. A win for Fyzabad will seal the crown ahead of their next match, while a draw result or Pt Fortin East, will set up an intriguing finish.

No it's not. Just saying...as I'm in a secondary school's environment and currently coaching there, what you're talking about isn't too difficult once the players coming through the ranks are capable enough to fill those roles. The reason I said what I said earlier is that many of these players who enter school at 14 or even 15 are playing minimum U17 level or they're put straight into the U20 environment, giving them much needed experience from early.  This set up would make it much easier to integrate players who are in 2nd and 3rd forms where the expected age of the player used to be 13 and 14. Age 14 in 2nd form still gives you a 17-18 year old young man by 5th form.

Not disputing your knowledge and understanding of the environment in general.  Grovey like to pace his players though, so unless exceptional he not rushing them through to higher age bracket competition.  So when he has a team and they can go all season with no losses, 1 loss, maybe 2 max is because they have played together a long time, have tremendous chemistry and can maximize potential in his set up.  Many of those players in that first XI right now wouldn't be there if not for the particular situation the Tigers are in.  So all I am saying is circumstances forced his hand and the team still did well to be in position to finish as high as second at this point.

With all the zonal divisions already wrapped up, teams have already been drawn to see who will take the 2015 Girls Big Four competition.

St Augustine Secondary will take on Diego Martin Central Secondary at the Larry Gomes Stadium, while on Sunday, Fyzabad Secondary will be playing a virtual home game when they face Scarborough Secondary in the second semi-final. James puts Signal Hill within point of title.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Omarley James scored a second straight double as Signal Hill hammered Bishop’s High 5-0 on Wednesday to move to within one point of claiming the Tobago Zone BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Football League Championship Division crown and a “Big-Five” spot.

Coming off a similar 5-0 demolition of Roxborough on Monday, Signal Hill also got a goal apiece from Akiel Frank, Akiel Holdford and N’Kosi Chance to move to 25 points from 11 matches, three more than Scarborough ahead of their final round clash at Scarborough on Saturday. Scarborough missed a chance to stay within a point of its rival after it drew 2-2 with Goodwood.

Tomorrow, Signal Hill will need only a draw to lift the title, while Scarborough must win to claim the crown on goal-difference. Thanks, bro.  Looks like mathematically, Naparima has secured this year's Premier league title, while Pres has solidified 2nd place, with a chance to secure that 2nd place finish with a win or a draw on Wednesday.  Their closest rival for a 2nd place finish is St. Benedict's.

Naps repeats as SSFL Premier champ.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Trinity East relegated

Team captain Michael Basdeo picked the right time to get his first goal of the season as it earned Naparima Colllege a 1-0 triumph over Shiva Boys to sucessfully retain its BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football Premier Division League crown, yesterday.

Going into the match, Naparima held a five-point lead over Presentation College of San Fernando with one round of matches left after yesterday and needed only to win one of its remaining encounters.

And Basdeo came up trumps when needed as his tenth minute item proved decision for the Angus Eve-coached Naparima to move to an unassailable 32 points from 14 matches, five more than Presentation College of San Fernando which hammered host and relegated Trinity East 5-0 at Trincity led by a double from Kareem Riley.

The trio of St Benedict’s College (25 points), St Anthony’s College (24) and St Augustine Secondary (23), all took advantage of Shiva’s defeat by moving ahead in the race to secure the remaining two Big-Four places with contrasting victories.

At the Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin, St Benedict’s blanked St Mary’s College 3-0; St Anthony’s slipped past Queen’s Royal College 1-0 in Westmoorings and St Augustine spanked Fyzabad 3-1 at home. Down at the foot of the table, Trinity East is certain to be relegated and will be joined by two from the Fyzabad, Fatima, Speyside or Carapichaima when the final round of matches takes place on Wednesday.

Signal Hill takes Tobago boys crown
Meanwhile, Signal Hill captured the Tobago Zone of the Championship Division after a 1-1 draw in a top-of-the-table clash with last year’s winner Scarborough. Akeem Benjamin netted for Signal Hill to lead 1-0 while Kareem Agard equalised for Scarborough.

The point earned took Signal Hill to 26 points from its 12 matches, three ahead of Scarborough which needed a win. Signall Hill will now host Chaguanas North in its Championship Division “Big-Five” opener on Tuesday while East Mucurapo is at home to Five Rivers, both from 3.30 pm.

On Friday, East Mucurapo edged Chaguanas North 3-2 and Five Rivers slipped past Pleasantville 2-1 in round one matches.

Today, at the Mannie Ramjohn Stdaium, Marabella from, Fyzabad and Scarborough will face off in the National Girls “Big-Four” semifinal with the winner to face St Augustine which outclassed Diego Martin Central 5-2 on Thursday led by a Laurelle Theodore hat trick. The final is carded for Tuesday.
