What's the issue here? The points should go to QRC.

Knowing the SSFL, this game maybe replayed. There was plenty time remaining in the game. Fyzo. may take this to court and may get the benefit of doubt here.

Ah know wha yuh saying. However, it's unlikely the replay will result in less acrimony. And, the Express reporting does not indicate that QRC was deficient with respect to harnessing security at the grounds.

Rather, it seems that Fyzabad felt its players were not being protected on the field ... by the match officials. Yet, Stewart (QRC) and London (Fyzabad) were properly dismissed.

With 15 minutes remaining in the contest (75' completed), the match was substantively played, and it appears Fyzabad positioned themselves to frustrate the outcome.

I would be happy to read a poster's perspective on Fyzabad's position.

I would also like to learn more regarding Lalchan's conclusion that the match had to be blown off.

With Pres Sando win over Speyside, and Naps 0-0 draw with Benedicts, it looks like Pres is currently in 2nd place, behind by 1 solitary point of first place Naps.

RePRESent!!!

Pres scoring a lot but that defence is conceding too many goals.  They leaking like rusty galvanize.

Naparima College dropped points for the first time this season when they were held to a goal-less draw by St. Benedict's College in the second game of a double header at Guaracara park..

In the first game.... Presentation College San Fernando kept the pressure on Naps with a thrilling 3 to 2 victory over Speyside Secondary. Kent Fuentes has the details.

Violence , Trouble and tension at TnT Schools football matches.
I keep saying this every year...and after yesterday's abandoned match at QRC/Fyzabad ...WE HAVE TO POLICE these matches much better.
We have to understand that only School football brings out the "tribal" " Colors ", 'loyalty" and high " emotions" in fans and players alike...thats just how it is based on traditions and loyalties etc...maybe at some minor leagues in the communities you will find similar...but School football runs high on tension..our top Pro League matches dont have that...so please please please act now before the story gets worse.

He was.  Plenty people switched between Fatima and Saints....although not so much in those days.

In 1974 & 1975 the then principal at Fatima Clive Pantin withdrew from the Colleges League in "protest" of schools having players who were at school ONLY for football.  Ironic because one of Fatima's greatest ever players, Gally Cummings, came to Fatima from Tranquil in similar circumstances.

Anyway, Fatima did not participate in Colleges League football over those years.  Pantin himself was a former national player in both football and cricket so he knew the importance of sports.  So he developed a house league at Fatima.  There were different "houses".  Stewart, Archbishop, Craigwell, Byrne, and Corcoran and the emphasis was on participation.  ALL students were assigned to a house by age group.  In addition, he also implemented a midday league in the Atrium which was also very successful.

A lot of players were "discovered" through their play in these leagues.  Players who you would have never thought would have represented the school in normal circumstances were shown to have excellent ability.  Lester Joseph who went on to captain the 1979 Intercol winning team was one.  Nobody at the school knew Garnet Craig even played football but one day someone saw the name G Craig as a goalscorer in the Eastern Football League.  When asked if he was the same G Craig as in the article, he said yes and the rest was history.  Garnet Craig went on to become another in a long list of National football players.  One of the very best defenders the country has ever had.

Anyway, in 1976, Pantin decided that his "protest" had gone on long enough, he had made whatever point he needed to make, and Fatima went back into Colleges League, but not at the first division level.  Fatima had to start at the 2nd division and get promoted.  Fatima blew away the opposition in the CFL 2nd division and Hayden Martin was one of, if not THE star of the team at that time.  Then came intercol and we played John D with Peter Loobie, Doc (yes our very own Doc), Allan "Peru" Anderson and dem fellas and got thrashed 4-0.

In 1977, Fatima was playing once again among the big boys and was a force to be reckoned with.  By 1978, Fatima, Mucurapo, and John D were the dominant teams in the Colleges Football League.

Great post, Tallman.  I was a Presman in the mid-1980s.  That 1986 & 1986 Pres Team was a real force to be reckoned with in any era.  Anthony Sherwood and Leonsen Lewis were not just extraordinary players with awesome skillsets on the field of play...they are two real class acts as well.  Real cool down-to-Earth fellas, as I know you're also well aware..

Also, it's great that they mentioned Ivan Sampson of St. Benedict's...great player.  And so was Glenn 'Benji' Benjamin of St. Benedict's.  I played against those two players often outside of the College league.

Anyhows, as always RePRESent.   ; :beermug: :beermug: :beermug:

‘Tigers’ hand ‘Naps’ first loss.
By Sean Taylor (Express).

St Augustine Secondary registered their third win of the BGTT-First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday when they scraped a 2-1 win against Trinity College Moka.

However, the big shock of the day came in the marquée clash between Naparima College and St Anthony’s College. The “Tigers” from the north came away with a 1-0 win, becoming the first team to beat the defending champs this season.

Meanwhile, Shiva Boys Hindu College predictably drew with Presentation College San Fernando 1-1 at their ground in Penal. But the stalemate allowed Presentation to draw level on points with Naparima but they remain second to their old rivals on goal difference.

Elsewhere, San Juan North Secondary moved into third after whipping Carapichaima East Secondary 3-0 in Carapichaima; Queen’s Royal College travelled to Tobago and scored a 2-0 win away to Speyside High; Fatima College drew with St Benedict’s College 1-1 at Mucurapo Road, while St Mary’s College upset Fyzabad Secondary 2-0 down in deep south, to get their season back on track.

In St Augustine, no team throughout the 90 truly looked in the ascendency. In the end, it was goals from set-pieces that made the difference.

The first ten minutes went back and forth between the two teams, with no team truly stamping their authority. St Augustine would threaten first when St Augustine forward, Anthony Samuel, was up-ended by Caleb Moore in the Trinity goal, when he was put through from the midfield with just the Trinity goalkeeper to beat.

Jesse Joseph scored from the resulting free kick with a deft flick of his right boot, leaving Moore rooted to his line to send the Green Machine into the lead in front of around 100 screaming classmates and fans.

The lead wouldn’t last for long however, as Trinity equalised seven minutes later. St Augustine conceded a free-kick on the right wing, and the visitors made no mistake in taking advantage as their left back, Joshua Trumpet attacked the ball bravely in the crowded area to head easily past Yannic Gamaldo in the St Augustine goal.

Just before the stroke of the half hour, Trinity’s live-wire number ten Tirek George, bamboozled his marker and had the keeper second-guessing as his left-footer flashed wide past the post and hit the side netting.

Trinity were neater of the two teams in possession in the first half, a trend which continued into the second period. They almost went ahead again but Gamaldo raced bravely off his line to thwart the opportunity. The hosts responded in kind when their wide forward Anthony Samuel ran onto a through ball, but was also blanked by the Trinity keeper.

For the next twenty minutes the match ebbed and flowed, with Trinity taking better care of the ball, and St Augustine racing up the bumpy pitch on the counter-attack when they won it back.

Joshua Marshall put the hosts into the lead with a header from a free-kick in the 66th minute, copying the Trinity equaliser in the first half. The central defender made good on his threat from a set-piece yesterday.

The goal proved to be the difference between the two teams who fought tooth and nail in a clean match, but could not add to their tallies in the second half.

Haile Beckles scored in the 85th minute for St Anthony’s, who ended Naparima’s unbeaten run for the season.

Presentation San Fernando missed a chance to claim first place when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Shiva Boys at Penal while San Juan North jumped one spot to third when they spanked Carapichaima East 3-0 at Carapichaima.

Hayden Martin! Good luck!!!

Fatima Old Boy.  Good player in his time.

Played against him in the old CFL. We played in minor league together at the Barataria Oval. Yes, very good player at that time.

The name sounds familiar. Wasn't he a Saints Coach in the past??

A lot of footballers came to Fatima because of football but they HAD TO HAVE the grades. Gaeme Rodriguez and Ronnie Simmons come to mind.

If memory serves me correctly, Garnet played for Blackpool in the East. A Boss defender indeed. Couldn't understand why he and Simmo didn't get to train with the Strike Squad.

Yes. And he was a teacher there also.

The Assistant Coaches are (Scratchy) Ramdoo and Wayne "Barney" Sheppard.
