Can someone please tell me how San Juan is at the top of the SSFL table, with only 16 points, while Pres Sando is at #2 with 17 points???

San Juan won: 5 ; Drew: 1 ; Lost: 2; Their record should reflect 16 points, yet it reflects 18.

Pres Sando won: 5 ; Drew: 2; Lost: 1:  Their record correctly reflects 17 points.

So, what am I missing here in the Math?
Your Math is right...the table results are wrong. San Juan won 6 and lost 2 as at the time that table was produced. They had no draws so they were on 18 points. I think they lost to Fyzo yesterday so they are second now
well yes

We here have variously dissected the virtues and failings of secondary school football. At times, it is useful to track, or at least know, what our neighbours are doing. Currently in Panama, schoolboy teams (and by schoolboys I mean 17s) from all of the country's provinces are in the capital competing for the privilege of representing the country at a tournament to be held in Mexico in November. Some of the players are said to be affiliated with the youth ranks of pro clubs. Maybe a regional forum - such as that - would be a (more?) useful activity for the Brent Sams of our world.

Then again, how old is Brent Sam?

Decided to shift these comments from the game thread to this thread. More pertinent here.

There's also this:

http://www.cableondasports.com/futbol/nacional/26-colegios-competiran-en-la-copa-presidente-2015

A first-year tournament (organized under the joint auspices of the Panamanian Institute of Sport, the Ministry of Education, and the Police) that features 16 U15 teams and 24 U18 teams.

Happy to see that good sense has prevailed in the form of three points for QRC.

To be honest, I am a bit surprised. In the past I have seen games of this kind played over multiple times. But I guess the times are different. But my alma mater is in the middle. Not bad, but not good enough. 2 wins out of the 4 draws, and we would be in the running. But it is still first rounds.

Diego Martin Central vs St Joseph's Convent.

Action continued in the North Zone of the Secondary Schools Girls' Football League with Diego Martin Central continuing their winning ways against St Joseph's convent.

From the word 'GO' Diego settled and started pressing for the opener.

Time and again they got into good positions but couldn't get anything past an alert Melissa Steele in the St Joseph's goal.

Naps stay in front
By Sean Taylor (Express).

Naparima College maintained their lead in the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division yesterday when they put three past St Augustine Secondary at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

"Naps" saw their way past the "Green Machine" 3-1, while their nearest challenger San Juan North Secondary lost 3-2 at home to Presentation College San Fernando, who now move up to second place.

Carapichaima East Secondary beat Trinity East 2-0, while Trinity College Moka drew 2-2 with Shiva Boys Hindu College. St Anthony's College won 3-1 against Fyzabad Secondary, while St Benedict's College were 3-0 victors over Speyside High.

The spectacle of the day was up North however, as Queen's Royal College came to life in the "derby" as they whipped St Mary's College 3-0 at Serpentine Road, St Clair.

The cool conditions allowed for a fast-paced first half, and the hosts had more of the ball in the first five minutes. Daniel Conocchiari swung an out-swinging corner onto the head of Aaron Skeene, who headed over as CIC stated their intent early on.

T&T Newsday Reports.

NAPARIMA stayed top of the standings in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) BGTT/First Citizens Premier Division after a come-from-behind 3-1 win over St Augustine at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella yesterday.

St Augustine led 1-0 at the half-time interval but Naparima stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second half to maintain their lead at the top of the 15-team table.

Presentation San Fernando moved up to second after a 3-2 victory away to San Juan North while Shiva Boys stayed in third place after they were held to a 2-2 draw by the inconsistent Trinity North at Moka, Maraval.

St Anthony’s jumped three notches to fifth courtesy of a 3-1 drubbing of Fyzabad at Westmoorings while St Benedict’s whipped Speyside 2-0 at the Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

In the day’s most eagerly anticipated showdown, QRC got three first-half goals to trounce hosts St Mary’s 3-0. And, after nine attempts, Trinity East finally earned a point, as they played to a goalless draw against Carapichaima East at Trincity.

Pleasantville inches closer to South title.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Pleasantville moved to within a point of clinching the South Zone title in the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Football League Championship Division and a spot in the “Big-Five” after it hammered Moruga 4-0 at Moruga on Friday.

With the win, Pleasantville pushed its point tally to 22 from nine matches, nine more than Vessigny which has two matches in hand.

However, with a point from its remaining match with third placed Princes Town West, Pleasantville will carry its tally to an unassailable 25 points. In the other match played in the South Zone, Pt Fortin East and Siparia West battled to a 0-0 draw while the match between Vessigny and Pt Fortin West did not come off.

Over in the sister isle, leaders Scarborough suffered a second straight loss, 1-0 at home to Pentecostal Light & Life which got its lone item from Jabari Franis. Despite the loss, which followed a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mason Hall, Scarborough still leads the seven-team table with 18 points from eight matches, two more than Signal Hill which has a match in hand.

Bishop’s High stayed in the title hunt with a 4-0 bashing of Roxborough while Goodwood trounced Mason Hall 3-0 led by a double from Javon Williams. In the North Zone,  leaders East Mucurapo missed a chance to clinch its title after its match against Blanchisseuse was postponed.

East Mucurapo leads the five teams with 16 points from six matches, nine more than Malick and Tranquillity which have three and two matches left to play, respectively. So far, Chaguanas North (Central) and Five Rivers (East) have claimed their zonal crowns and will contest the Championship Division “Big-Five” from which the top three teams will be promoted to the Premier Division.

Diego Martin Central, ’Gustine, Scarborough, Fyzabad scent titles.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

The quartet of Scarborough, Diego Martin Central, St Augustine, and Fyzabad all won to move closer to capturing their respective zonal titles when the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Girls Championship Division continued on Sunday.

Over in Tobago, Scarborough maintained its 100 per cent winning record and one of the two teams yet to drop a point this season with an emphatic 9-0 blow out of host Speyside, fired by hat tricks from Aaliyah Charles and Sherise Roberts. Lakita Hall chipped in with two goals and Jenille Lawrence added the other for Scarborough now with maximum 18 points from six matches, nine clear of both Mason Hall and Signal Hill, with the latter being the only team with an outside chance of denying the table leaders the crown.

However, with two matches left to play, Scarborough only needs a point to be certain of being champions while Signal Hill, which edged Mason Hall 1-0 via Asha James’s winner must win its three remaining fixtures and hope Scarborough loses both its encounters. In the North Zone, Diego Martin Central maintained its unbeaten record as well, thanks to a 1-0 defeat of host St Francois Girls to improve to 19 points after seven matches on the six-team table, seven ahead Bishop’s Anstey (PoS), which punished Providence 7-0 while Success/Laventille got its first win, 8-0 against St Joseph Convent (PoS).

Down South, Fyzabad hammered St Joseph Convent (San Fernando) 6-0 for its fifth straight win and maximum 15 points, and needs only a point in its final match against second placed Pt Fortin East (12 points) for the zonal crown.

A win for Pt Fortin East, will see it being crowned champions as it enjoys a healthy goal-difference of plus-39 to Fyzabad’s plus-30. In the East Zone, St Augustine (ten points), stayed in the driver’s seat to lift the title after nearest challenger Bishop’s Anstey (eight points) was held to a 0-0 draw by St George’s College.

Results - Sunday

South:

Fyzabad 6 vs St Joseph Convent 0

Tobago:

Signal Hill 1 (Asha James) vs Mason Hall 0

Scarborough 9 (Aaliyah Charles 3, Sherise Roberts 3, Lakita Hall 2, Jenille Lawrence) vs Speyside 0

East:

North:

Bishop’s Anstey 7 vs Providence 0

Diego Martin Central 1 vs St Francois 0

Chaguanas North embarrass ASJA Boys
T&T Newsday Reports.

Only one rounds being played.

The Fyzabad game was awarded because the fight didn't really stop the game. Ref had everything under control, issued red cards, players left the field with no fuss...but the Fyzabad team refuse to restart the game.

Hudson treble extends Naparima SSFL lead.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

In form Isaiah Hudson got his second hat-trick and seventh goal in three matches as Naparima defeated host Fatima 4-1 to widen its lead at the top of the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football Premier Division League table at Fatima College Grounds, Mucurapo Road, yesterday.

With the win, Naparima, the defending Premier Division and “Big-Four” champions carried its points total to 25 from 10 matches four more than Shiva Boys while the trio of Presentation College of San Fernando, St Benedict’s College and St Anthony’s College are next with 20 points each.

They are followed by St Mary’s College with 19, San Juan North with 18, and the duo of idle Queen’s Royal College and St Augustine, next with 17 apiece.

Hudson, who got a hat trick in a 5-1 thrashing of Trinity College East, a week ago and then one in a 3-1 defeat of St Augustine last Saturday, opened the scoring for Naparima in the 24th minute while team-mate Renaldo Francois made it 2-0 nine minutes before the half-time whistle.

Fatima, which is deep in relegation trouble got a lifeline through midfielder Krishorn Alexander’s 76th minute effort to cut the lead to 2-1, however Hudson calmed the nerves of his team-mates and coach Angus Eve by adding two late items in the 82nd and 88th to complete his second treble of the season.

At the David Williams Recreation Ground, Penal, Shiva Boys got a 43rd minute item from Quinn Rodney to edge San Juan North 1-0 and move ahead of Presentation which went under to visiting St Mary’s courtesy a Bryant Van Low goal at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

St Benedict’s also won 1-0 away to Fyzabad thanks to a Kerwin Mitchell strike while visitors St Anthony’s got a second-half double from Haile Beckles to earn a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Carapichaima East.

In other matches yesterday, St Augustine spanked winless Trinity East 3-1 and Speyside battled past Trinity College of Moka, 2-1 courtesy a goal three minutes into injury time from Kerri Mc Donald.

Yesterday’s Results:

Naparima 4 (Isaiah Hudson 24th, 82nd, 88th, Renaldo Francois 36th) vs Fatima 1 (Krishorn Alexander 76th)

St Mary's 1 (Bryant Van Low 40th) vs Presentation (San F'do) 0

St Augustine 3 (Jesse Joseph 10th, Anthony Samuel 20th, Tyriq Alexander 55th) vs Trinity East 1 (Nickel Orr 80th)

Shiva Boys 1 (Quinn Rodney 43rd) vs San Juan North 0

St Anthony's 2 (Haile Beckles 55th, 80th) vs Carapichaima East 1 (Daniel Pascall 36th)

Speyside 2 (Weah Adams 45th +1, Kerri Mc Donald 90th+3) vs Trinity Moka 1 ( Zaki Skinner 77th)

St Benedict's 1 (Kerwin Mitchell) vs Fyzabad 0

Wow, the league is tight. 7 teams are one win away from 2nd place. QRC and Gustine are 8th and 9th with 17 points each.

The south schools are doing pretty good this year. Close league though anything could happen in the next 4 games.

Form 3 doesn't necessarily mean 14-15 year old players. Many of these secondary schools footballers are 14-15 by 2nd form.
