This dude put some of Kitchener kaiso to jazz. He was a truly excellent kaiso jazzman. RIP, Breds.

Internationally-acclaimed musician Rafael “Raf” Robertson passed away on Thursday from complications due to a flu virus. Robertson had actually last week Friday checked himself into the Mt Hope Hospital because although he thought he just had the cold, he was feeling unusually unwell.
Many of his friends and musical peers were unaware that Robertson was ill and so were shocked upon hearing the news of his death yesterday morning.
Tributes have been coming in from the world over, many of them posted on Facebook. American jazz pannist Andy Narell posted, “Today I lost my best friend. I was hoping I'd never have to say that, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm gonna miss you in so many ways Raf”. Jazz pianist Michael “Ming” Low Chew Tung told the Express, “Raf Robertson was a beautiful human being who used every opportunity to engage and enlighten those of us around him. He was always one to offer a kind supportive word to a young musician in a bid to encourage them to be better.”

R.I.P. Rafael 'Raf' Rafael Robertson. One of the most progressive musicians in Trinidad, leader of the Birdsong ensemble and the Birdsong music program for talented youth. He will be sorely missed on the music scene as well as by the activists for a better Trinidad and Tobago.

Here are a few Raf Robertson Calypso Panjazz classics featuring him on piano.
