3 1/2 months away from June 15th when CFU group qualifiers start but no coach named for U20. If the youth are our future, then we have no plan for the future.

When we naming the coach?

When we having trials?

This is ridiculous.

Website still saying Derek King is the Coach but all reports are that he will not be.

Furthermore, not a word from anyone in TTFA.

Wonder if the plan is to wait until the last moment then bring players from a certain Club

Trini 2018,

Please do and let us know what you find out, they not responding at all. Just saying that finance is a problem and we focused on Senior team at the moment.

So much for the future; U17 and U20 playing CFU qualifiers in late and middle June respectively but no coach, no trials and no camp with games 3 months away. PREPARATION and ORGANIZATION is perpetually our downfall.

Under 20 Reggae Boyz train for CFU qualifiers

4:22 pm, Sun February 28, 2016

Jamaica's national Under-20 football team held another training session at the JFF Centre at the Mona Bowl on Saturday morning as they continue their preparation for the CFU qualifiers in June.

The three-day training camp involves only four overseas invitees along with players from Kingston and St Andrew as those from rural Jamaica were not invited due to general elections.

The team has been training on and off and coach Altimont Butler said this has affected their preparation.

The team engaged in a squad match on Saturday morning and Butler said their aim was to look at one-hundred players where they will choose a pool of forty for the campaign.

Defender Andrew Boothe, winger Jonathan Lewis, central midfielder Bradley Franklyn and Julani Hammond are the four overseas invitees, all from Florida.

Jamaica has two quality former players as coaches, Butler holds a UEFA B license having run academy in Norway plus a coaching relationship with Chelsea FC.

Jamaica held camp in January, now one in February with plans for Easter camp with a goal to see 100 players.

We still have not named a coach nor scheduled a camp with 3 months to go.

Hope Infantino send some mone qucik

Former Trinidad and Tobago U17 Captain Noah Powder scores for NYRBII

http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/post/2016/03/11/match-recap-new-york-red-bulls-ii-1-bethlehem-steel-fc-1

MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II 1, Bethlehem Steel FC 1

HANOVER, N.J. (March 11, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II hosted first-year USL club Bethlehem Steel FC at the Red Bulls Training Facility on Friday afternoon and played to a 1-1 draw. Red Bulls academy player Noah Powder scored in the 74th minute and Bethlehem’s Eric Ayuk leveled the match in the 75th.

Amidst the USL players and NYRB II trialists in the starting lineup were five MLS players and Aaron Etienne, Derrick Etienne Jr.’s cousin, who was listed as a guest player.

The match was even from the start, with both teams sharing possession in the opening 25 minutes. New York’s best chance came in the 27th minute on a corner kick. Stefano Bonomo rose above the crowd to meet the ball and direct it into the ground, but his header flew just wide.

In the 38th minute, Red Bulls II thought they earned a penalty kick when Alex Muyl was taken down in the box. Despite pressuring the official to blow the whistle, no foul was called and play continued.

In the second half, trialist Junior Flemmings nearly opened the scoring in the 63rd minute. Following a free kick that bounced around in the box, Flemmings headed a shot towards goal, but caught the wrong side of the crossbar.

New York did capitalize in the 74th minute, thanks to Red Bulls U-18 defender Powder. The defender pressed high up the field during a spell of NYRB II possession and collected the ball near the penalty spot. Powder struck a left-footed shot which proved too much to handle for the Bethlehem goalkeeper, who got a hand on the shot but was unable to keep it out.

Bethlehem answered back immediately, pressing high and jumping on a defensive miscue. Ayuk collected a pass that was not properly controlled by a defender around the penalty box and finished the chance to level the match.

The home side had one final opportunity in the 82nd minute which nearly broke the deadlock. On a corner kick, an inswinging ball was met by Tim Schmoll at the near post and flicked on towards goal. The ball just went wide of the far post and the teams could not be separated on the day.

Red Bulls II will be back in action next week on Friday, March 18, when they host Harrisburg City Islanders at 1 p.m. at the Red Bulls Training Facility.

Former Trinidad and Tobago U-17 Captain Noah Powder, starts in season opener for RED BULLS II

http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/post/2016/03/26/usl-match-recap-new-york-red-bulls-ii-2-toronto-fc-ii-2

HARRISON, N.J. (March 26, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II opened the 2016 USL season with a draw at Red Bull Arena against Toronto FC II, 2-2. Raheem Edwards and Skylar Thomas put Toronto ahead in the first half, only to be cancelled out by Brandon Allen who scored two goals in the second half to preserve a point for New York.

With the result, New York opened the USL season with a draw for the second consecutive year.

New York started the game pressing high and caused problems early for Toronto. New York’s first chance came in the 19th minute when Alex Muyl collected the ball at the corner of the six-yard box. He fired, aiming high for the near corner, but missed and the shot went high.

New York’s best chance came in the 32nd minute when Davis sent in an inswinging ball on a free kick. Aaron Long rose above the crowd and got a head to it, but his attempt flew just wide.

Toronto got on the board first in the 35th minute when Mo Babouli cut a low cross from the endline in front of goal, where Edwards finished to put the visitors ahead.

TFC II doubled their lead seconds prior to halftime when Thomas chipped in from a tight angle.

In the second half, Homegrown forward Allen took over for New York. Derrick Etienne Jr. was brought down in the box and earned a penalty kick in the 65th minute. Allen stepped up and although his shot was initially saved, he collected the rebound and scored to cut the deficit to one.

Four minutes later, Sean Davis fed Allen in the box who fired his shot towards the near post. The projectile took a deflection off a Toronto defender and beat the keeper to tie the game and earn New York one point to start the season.

New York Red Bulls II will be back in action next weekend when they travel south to take on Louisville City FC on Saturday, April 2.

Finally, we have a coach. I have been asking since mid January when CFU announced June 15-19 for First Round.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association is today pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Williams as Head Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Under 20 Team.
President of the TTFA, David John-Williams made the disclosure at the TTFA head office in Port of Spain on Wednesday afternoon as he relayed some of the Association’s plans for the upcoming calendar.

It was also announced that former National Team player Kerry Jamerson will serve as the Under 20 Team’s Assistant Coach with the rest of the staff appointments to be announced in due course.

Williams is a past National Senior Team assistant coach and a former National Under 20 Men’s Team head coach. And of course he was a player attached to the famous 1989 Strike Squad.

“It is always an honour when called upon to serve your country and particularly a national football team,” Williams told TTFA Media on Wednesday.

“I know exactly what it means to be the head coach of a national team and it comes with a huge responsibility especially when the expectations of the Trinidad and Tobago public are very high. I am personally looking forward to this challenge and aiming to see what difference I can make in this part of the FA’s program. The main objective is to qualify for the next FIFA Under 20 World Cup in South Korea and our first objective is to come out of the Caribbean phase and into the CONCACAF final round,” Williams added.

The provisional training squad will be announced shortly but Williams commented on the talent at his disposal, saying “It’s an interesting one. We have at least sixteen players already shortlisted who are playing with the senior teams in the local Pro League and of course we have some other talents like Levi Garcia who is also eligible to play for the Under 20 team. I will have a look at the players coming out of the past Under 17 team and we will gather all the information on eligible players from the North American Leagues and other overseas leagues,” Williams added.

The TTFA President also disclosed that the group phase of the Caribbean Football Union qualification will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago in June. Four teams from the Caribbean will advance to the CONCACAF Final stage from which four nations will then qualify for the 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in South Korea.

John-Williams further added that the CFU Final Round of the Under 17 qualifiers will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago in August/September which means the team will have automatic entry

The TTFA President said he was pleased with the appointment of Williams and Jamerson, adding that their appointments were approved by the TTFA Technical Committee chaired by Dexter Skeene.

“We are pleased with the appointments. We know that the Under 20 qualifiers come up in mid-June and we are looking forward with a lot of anticipation.

“The good thing about this administration so far is that the technical committee approved the appointments. They were given certain guidelines and we have the support of the technical committee and I am happy to make the announcement on behalf of the technical committee,” John-Williams stated.

“In terms of the Under 17 team, a program has been running since under the past administration and has continued and we are very happy about that.

Regarding the Under 20 team, this team is going to be a very good one in that several of the players are already playing senior football in the TT Pro League and the rest of the players will come from the last Under 17 team so I think we are very comfortable with where we are at in terms of the Under 20 program and we expect a very good showing from them,” John-Williams added.

A provisional squad of thirty-three players have been called up to begin preparations with the National Under 20 Men’s Team at the Ato Boldon Stadium mainfield in Couva this Monday from 4:30pm.
Following the appointment of Brian Williams as Head Coach of the Men’s National Under 20 team this week, the former National team defender will welcome the players for the opening session as they look ahead to the build up for the Caribbean Football Union opening qualifying group phase in June in T&T, towards the 2017 FIFA Under 20 Men’s World Cup in South Korea.

“We’ve selected a squad of players that will come in on the first day to get acquainted with our plans and for us on the technical staff to be able to communicate from early what our vision and our intentions are with regards to getting the team ready for the start of the qualification,” Williams told TTFA Media.

This is the preliminary squad and we have identified a few players who are also based in the United States and England. We will also leave the door open to any other players who are eligible for selection, between this current time and the naming of the final team around late May,” he added.

U-20s willing to work hard.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

The current group of national under 20 men footballers are committed to putting in the extra work that is required to take them to a World Cup level. This is the feeling of national under 20 men’s team head coach Brian Williams.

Williams, a former Senior Team defender who has been employed at Petrotrin and also served in a coaching capacity at DirecTV W Connection, has been preparing the team alongside assistant coach Kerry Jamerson and goalkeeper coach Ross Russell for the past few weeks.

T&T will stage the opening group phase of the Caribbean qualifiers next month alongside St Lucia, Guadeloupe and Turks and Caicos. The 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup will be played in South Korea.

“Right now the season for a lot of the players who play in the Pro League is coming to an end and one tends to see a difference in the approach of the players after a season but the bunch that we have in camp have been doing the extras and showing that commitment,” said Williams.

“We have a group that has quality. We saw some players in Tobago also and we also have a few overseas-based players that will bring something to the team. Generally their attitude has been good and there is that willingness to put in the extra work as we look towards cutting the final squad for the competition,” Williams added.

Butler optimistic as U-20s preparation continues
BY SHERDON COWAN Observer staff reporter cowans@jamaicaobserver.com
Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Jamaica National Under-20 men’s team kicked preparations into high gear ahead of the first-round Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Qualifiers with a comfortable 4-1 beating of a St Ann All-star team in a practice game at Drax Hall over the weekend.
Assistant Coach Altimont Butler said Saturday’s encounter was important for the coaching staff, headed by former national captain Ricardo “Bibi” Gardner, to scrutinise a number of players.
Though pleased with the outcome and the approach of the players, Butler believes the team’s engine is still some distance away from hitting full throttle.
“The game assisted us to look at a few players for the first time in a game situation and it was interesting to see what some of the new players who came in had to offer. The team played well and the speed of play and their concentration level was up, which is a positive going forward.
“But we are pretty much just trying to get them to know the game within the game, so we are just about making some headway. We are just trying to show them how to function and stay structured as a team for now, and also trying to improve on their fitness significantly,” Butler told the Jamaica Observer.
Even though the preparation phase was initiated in January, the former national midfielder declared that they are yet to perform significant tactical work during the weekly three-day camps at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Training Centre at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus.
With the qualifiers scheduled for June 15-19 in the Dominican Republic only a few weeks away, Butler pointed out that they intend to make extensive progress in the coming weeks.
The young Reggae Boyz are drawn in Group Four alongside the host nation, Dominica, and St Kitts and Nevis.
“We only see the boys on the weekend, so even though we might put the work in, when we come back at the end of the next week, we still have to go back. Going back sometimes work for us, because they go back into their clubs and return with the bad habits, but it mostly works against us in regards to our preparation time,” he explained.
“But we will be doing some intensive tactical work in the coming weeks ahead of the tournament. We have seen quite a few talents that are very interesting and we are hoping that they will grow into the game and make us proud,” added Butler.
Last weekend’s 28-man training squad included three players playing in the United States. Players from English-based clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are also to be scouted before the naming of the provisional 30-man squad.
“It is very good to know that these overseas players are showing interest, but one of our aim and goal is to expose our local-based players. But everything is going well, the boys are putting in the work, we still have a few players missing and we have a few players who contacted us during the week, so we are still looking,” Butler noted.
http://www.youtube.com/v/sh8SeGmzai4

Joshua and Chaz Burnett. Their names were mentioned in the original 33-man provisional squad, but I don't know what happened. However, Joshua was drafted into the US U-18 team back in January.

I think those boys living in New York will also be affected by New York High School Regents exams. Hopefully, they will be available for CFU's in Curacao

Powder showing diversity in playing position. He played midfield for the full 90 versus Montreal Impact last Saturday in the NYRBII victory. He played left and right wing back for TnT U17 and NYRB U18 plus center half, but also playing anywhere on left side from wing back, midfield to winger. Powder proving to be a total footballer as he is often deployed on the right as well. Lets see how Brian Williams utilizes him

T&T U-20s to open CFU qualifiers vs Guadeloupe on June 15th
TTFA Media

National Under 20 Team head coach Brian Willams will announce a 25-man roster for the upcoming Caribbean Football Union Under 20 qualifying tournament Group 2 on Monday following a live-in training camp which begins tomorrow (Friday).

Williams currently has thirty players in training and will welcome New York Red Bulls player Noah Powder and English-based midfielder Morgan Bruce around the end of next week ahead of the competition that runs from June 15th-19th at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva

T&T will face Guadeloupe from 7:30pm in the second match of a double header to kick off the tournament on June 15th. Turks and Caicos will meet St Lucia from 5pm.

The remaining fixtures for the hosts will see them meeting Turks and Caicos from 7:30pm on June 17th and St Lucia from 6:30pm on June 19th.

In their continuing build up, the T&T team will face Queen’s Park’s Super League outfit in a training fixture at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium on Friday evening from 6pm.

“We are quite pleased about the opportunity to enter a live-in camp this weekend as it will be our first one since the preparations started and it’s important for team chemistry and bonding before we enter the games,” Williams told TTFA Media on Thursday.

The Under 20s lost 6-0 to the T&T Senior Team in a training fixture at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium just prior to the team’s departure for Peru last month and Williams believes the exercised served its purpose for his team.

“The game was a good measuring stick for us in terms of we were allowed to see how the boys would respond against much tougher opponents. It showed us where some of the areas needed to be worked on and I think the players were able to see for themselves. We were solid for the first 25 minutes and then we started to fall of a bit but overall it was a pretty good exercise,” Williams told TTFA Media on Thursday.

“I will name the 25-man squad on Monday and this will include the two overseas players coming in, Morgan Bruce and Noah Powder who have a lot of experience and also played for us at the CONCACAF Under 17 Finals.

“Currently the squad is gelling and the players are beginning to understand their roles and functions better. We are quite pleased with the way preparations have gone and the way the football association has gone about in trying to put things in place for this team. Now it’s a matter of finalizing things in the week heading into the competition and giving it our all on the field of play,” Williams added.

The under 20s drew 0-0 with Petrotrin Palo Seco’s Super League team and defeated University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) 4-1 last week.

T&T will face off with Guadeloupe, St Lucia and Turks and Caicos from June 15-19th for the right to advance to the next stage of CFU qualifiers towards the CONCACAF Final round in Costa Rica and then the 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in South Korea.

http://www.onceametro.com/2016/5/30/11776124/the-noah-powder-question-soca-warriors-trinidad-and-tobago-sign-him-new-york-red-bulls

The New York Red Bulls seem to have a knack for discovering their own academy talent via their reserve team almost by happenstance.
First, Derrick Etienne burst onto the scene last year, scoring three goals and assisting on three more on his way to being the most exciting player on New York Red Bulls II before having to leave for college. After just one season at UVA, the Red Bulls decided to bring Etienne on board full time, signing him to a professional deal. A year prior, very few had any idea who Etienne was and no one was talking about him being one of the team's next homegrown signings.

Now, RBNY appears to have unearthed another hitherto unheralded academy talent: Noah Powder.

For years, New York Red Bulls fans with an ear close to the ground heard rumblings about this great defender coming through the youth ranks. He was getting looks from Europe, from the national team, and even from the first team for a Homegrown contract. That defender's name is Mason Deeds.

Yet Deeds isn't the one we're talking about here, Powder is. Mason Deeds is a good defender who has shown well in his appearances for NYRB II, despite his haircut, and looks to have a solid college career at Georgetown before him. If he performs well and continues to develop he may well earn a homegrown contract in the future. However, as stated before, Deeds isn't who we're talking about.

Much like Etienne before him, Noah Powder was an above-average academy player who was given a shot in pre-season with the first team and then with New York Red Bulls II on an academy contract. Here, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Powder's performances at left back have earned him plaudits from day one this year, consistently showing as one of the better players on the field. More recently, he's been handed starts in USL in midfield, where he has perhaps been less effective - but he's 17 years-old. Seventeen! Tyler Adams, Mr. "Oh my God, this kid is really damn young", is less than four months younger than Powder. If you cut Frank Lampard in half, you have two injured soccer players still older than Noah Powder.

Powder is a winger by nature but appears to have converted well to being a left back at the professional level. He is only a teenager but seems comfortable playing with men. He has a wicked left foot, pace to burn, above average technical skills, and is fearless in defending. He has maintained his attacking tendencies from his time as a winger but is always willing to defend. Maybe he is a little rash in the tackle, but that's being pedantic. Most importantly though, he has a lot of time to grow into his technical and physical abilities. Brandon Allen is one of the more prominent players to emerge from RBNY's development system recently - just making his first team debut against Toronto FC on May 28 - and the forward is 22.

At the time of writing, Powder is fifth on NYRB II in terms of minutes played and hasn't looked out of place for any of them despite his age. Imagine the player he could be at the 22 if he can hold his own in the USL at 17.

So the question is, when is the team planning on signing Noah Powder? In fact, why haven't they signed him already? Powder isn't committed to playing soccer in college, so that's not holding him back. He's set to graduate from high school in the next month and he is clearly capable of playing professional soccer already. So what gives?

Yes, he may not be as flashy a player as Etienne was last year, but that's almost more impressive. It is a whole lot harder for a defender to break through at young age than an attacking player. They have much less room for error and most of the good often goes unnoticed.

It's not like Powder hasn't impressed the coaching staff; Jess Marsch is clearly a fan. Back in November Marsch cited Powder out of the blue as one of the club's top prospects. It's not like Powder hasn't shown well on the international stage. He has captained Trinidad and Tobago's U17 squad, was recently picked for their U20 team, and has scored a great goal or two for his country. So... what gives?

He doesn't need to sign a first team contract. He doesn't need to be rushed. Sign Powder to NYRB II and let him develop for a few years then bring him up to MLS when he's ready. That is one of the major benefits of running a USL team after all, keeping the talent you develop in-house.

Maybe Powder wants to graduate from high school before turning professional. Maybe the Red Bulls want him to be fully committed to soccer before they sign him. Maybe. Yet, with all the fantastic academy players New York has had walk away for nothing, the New York Red Bulls would be foolish to let a player of Powder's caliber slip through their fingers, especially when he is so close at hand.

T&T U-20s lose Julien and Pappy; but Williams points to gradual improvement
Wired868.com

The Trinidad and Tobago National Under-20 Team will be without the services of former National Under-17 left back Keston Julien and, possibly, Shiva Boys Hindu College stand-out Tyrel “Pappy” Emmanuel too, when the Caribbean Cup competition kicks off in Trinidad on June 15.

Julien, who played for Presentation College (San Fernando) last season and recently left W Connection for Marabella Family Crisis Centre, leaves for the Netherlands on June 10 where he will try to follow in the footsteps of 18-year-old compatriot, Levi Garcia, who signed for Eredivisie club, AZ Alkmaar, last year.

Emmanuel’s potential unavailability is down to more worrying circumstances.

“We have a little medical issue with Emmanuel and we need to get it cleared with the doctor,” said National Under-20 Team coach Brian Williams. “I don’t want to disclose too much about the medical issue but he’s been getting some chest pains. We are looking into it because we don’t know how serious it is.

“We want to get a medical clearance because we don’t know if it’s a heart problem or something like that.”

Emmanuel, who was one of three Trinidad and Tobago teenagers selected for a training stint at Manchester City last year, has complained of chest pains before and was substituted as a result on several occasions last season with Shiva Boys.

Williams said the the entire squad hopes that “Pappy” gets a clean bill of health and can rejoin his teammates in the near future.

The Under-20 squad continued their Caribbean Cup preparations last Friday with a 2-1 loss to National Super League (NSL) team Queen’s Park Cricket Club at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

QPCC, who had previous Under-20 trialist Ethan Shim in their ranks, got a double from former WASA FC striker and ex-national youth team captain Shane Calderon while lanky Trinidad and Tobago central defender Kierron Mason got a consolation item for Williams’ troops with a long range effort in the second half.

“I think Queen’s Park gave us a good run in terms of pressuring us and the intensity,” Williams told Wired868. “We conceded early goals in the first half and I think it was more defensive blunders than anything else.”

Calderon’s opener came after a poor defensive left him with only goalkeeper Jabari Brice to beat, while he converted a devious Shim cross for his second in the 35th minute.

The Trinidad and Tobago teenagers were hustled and harried constantly but did create their fair share of chances. Their finishing was sub-standard, though, and playmaker in chief, Jabari Mitchell, who was probably the best player in “Red, White and Black” on the night, was the main culprit.

“I think we need to do some finishing touches in the final third with regards to our finishing,” said Williams. “And still we need to improve in our general offensive play (especially) the build-up from the back. I think we have a tendency to go backward.”

The Under-20s improved notably in the second half, as the fresh legs of substitutes Yohannes Richardson, Kathon St Hillaire and Quinn Rodney—among others—stretched the tiring QPCC outfit.

“The positive I can take from this game is the response that I saw from the guy,” said Williams. “They didn’t drop their heads, and again we continue to give away some of our chances in terms of goal scoring. The positives are that we had a better second half and we were able to pull back one.”

Williams, a former “Strike Squad” stand out for Trinidad and Tobago, said his squad continues to improve gradually and they hoped to benefit from a four day live-in camp at Hubert Joseph Street in Claxton Bay, which began on June 2.

Although Julien is out and Emmanuel is doubtful, Williams expects to have the overseas-based duo of Noah Powder and Morgan Bruce by Monday morning. The young Warriors hope to have a short overseas camp as well.

“The TTFA is working on a trip to either El Salvador or Grenada,” said Williams. “If we get through with that we would leave some day next week to return around the 11th.

“Most likely that decision will be made before the camp breaks on Monday.”

(Team)

Trinidad and Tobago National Under-20 Team x QPCC (4-2-3-1): Jabari Brice (GK) (Jadel Poon-Lewis 46); Isaiah Garcia (Tekay Hoyce 54), Taryk Sampson, Kierron Mason, Kori Cupid; Kareem Riley (Kathon St Hillaire 54), Shane Sandy (Yohannes Richardson 46); Jarred Dass (Micah Lansiquot 66), Jabari Mitchell, Isaiah Hudson (Quinn Rodney 59); Nicholas Dillon (Rushawn Murphy 31).

After reading this article I am very concerned with what is happening with our Tobago players. In have seen none of them featured here. Spoke to one of them last night and he seems to think that they are still in the squad, but why were they not playing in this game. In face they were not even in Trinidad ?? ?? ?? ??

I agree it concerns me too for a couple of reasons:

1. These early rounds are easy games that we will win, it could have been a good time to call in 3 or 4 Tobago players to evaluate in a competitive environment.

2. Powder and Bruce will make the Concacaf final team no need to bring them now as their quality is known. It's possible the coach wanted to see them early and blend them, some of that could have been avoided if proper transition from the last U17 Coach Cooper. I doubt this happen as it does not appear to be in our culture, but I can not say it did not.

3. I say 3 or 4 Tobago players because I know of at least 3 that deserved a shot.

In consolation, Powder does have Tobago roots and spend many summers in Tobago with his younger brother Samory(who is trying out for Elie U17) at St. Clair at Coaching school.

Brian Williams names Final Under 20 Squad for CFU qualifiers
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s Men’s Under 20 team head coach Brian Williams announced a final 23-man squad on Monday evening to contest the upcoming Caribbean Football Union First Round qualifying matches slated to take place at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva June 15th-19th.

Williams along with assistant coach Kerry Jamerson and his technical staff have been overseeing the preparations of the team over the past few weeks ahead of their opening fixture with Guadeloupe which kicks off at 7:30pm on Wednesday June 15th. The match will be part of a double header with Turks and Caicos facing St Lucia in the earlier contest from 5pm.

On Sunday, T&T defeated Siparia Spurs 2-0 at Irving Park, Siparia through goals by Jarred Dass and Jabari Mitchell before Williams announced the final team in the presence of TTFA technical director Muhammad Isa who also spoke to the players ahead of the upcoming competition.

US-based New York Red Bulls defender Noah Powder arrived in Trinidad on Monday and will train with the team on Wednesday with English-based Morgan Bruce also expected in this week.

The squad includes previous Under 20 team midfielder Jabari Mitchell and Nicholas Dillon as well as Kareem Riley, the captain past T&T Under 17 Team. Isaiah Hudson has also made the cut along with US-based college player Dass and Canadian-based defender Jacob Sooklal.

Commenting on the selection, Williams said he was satisfied with the composition of the squad.

“I think the squad is good, competitive one,” Williams told TTFA Media.

“The last four days we were able to analyze the players properly and see who responded well to the training from a fitness standpoint and with regards to the other demands we have been making of them from a tactical standpoint.

“I am looking forward to see the team play with great expectations. The strength will come through mostly our offensive play. We have some good offensive players but we have a bit more work to do in order to become more steady in the defence. Noah Powder came in today and Morgan Bruce comes in this week as well and they will add some stability to the team,” Williams stated.

“We will continue to look at the players to come up with the best possible composition for the games. We have to work on our game in the final third because we’ve been missing some chances on goal. We will be concentrating on our finishing in the few days leading up to the tournament.

“The next few days will be interesting for us. We had a couple injuries to deal with . We have young Tyrel Emmanuel out but we are quite pleased with the way things have gone for us. We expect all three teams will be eager to do well and as such we will not take any of the teams for granted,” Williams added.

“The training camp this weekend was very important for us and I’d like to thank the FA for arranging it for us. It was important for the team bonding at this stage of the preparations. We had the opportunity to do some video sessions and strengthening the team cohesion before the tournament starts next week.”

Tickets for the games will be on sold on matchday at the Stadium and are priced at $20 (covered) and $10 (uncovered).
