dis team understand d concept of counter attackin....because I seeing where releasing d ball quicker after breakin up ah CR play could give us real chances

Definitely an improved product on the field, but with the opening result and the current score, it doesn't point to much reward and that's unfortunate. In that respect, the structure of the South American tourney better favors the objectives in this age group.

Alrhough CRC has the momentum now,  we have talent on the field that can repair the score.

when our players have the ball everybody run parallel, or directly trailing the attacker...when CR have the ball, 1 or 2 max run parallel, 2 running diagonally towards the player with the ball...support and numbers in attack.. to few numbers and passes available for us

An element of that is imprecise passing. And "releasing" without conviction and timing.

Quote
Counterattacking is now much better organised and well thought out. It’s not just about launching a long ball forward – counters tend to be more elaborately planned and can create more goals.

--- Carlo Ancelotti.

we are not countering we trying to hit a perfect long kick pass to a forward running away from the passer, making it even more difficult..poor coaching

don't think it's wild, as much as a low percentage pass(1 v 4) from an extreme deep defensive position to an extreme forward position. If the moon is right, and the sun not to high, will work 1 outta 10 times...then the man have to control and score by heself..more low percentage play

Iz a straightforward "brand". Ole school supposedly "honest football". Buh, believe me this product is an upgrade from Curacao in collective execution.

Doh expect to see our players playing between the lines and getting into pockets etc.

We shouldn't have been a goal down. We doh learn.

nb: the difference in our very last play..the passer wasn't deep, the forward turned back in front the 4 to recieve, a player trailed directly, and a winger made a diagonal run towards goal and new passer..should be doing this all game, instead of running forward and away..so they are capable, but then they are National players, the best we have got, so the capability is there, they just have to be given the proper direction..i hope coach sees in the tape and adjust the boys to suite, they will get more opportunities, and more conversions i'm sure

we had a thoughtful idea but unfortunately execution remains too slow to trouble defensive organization.

We are playing a tick and a half too slow.

To put the "improvement" in perspective.

I now wonder why our best players choose to play for Shiva over the national team, can it be that something about the coach is irritating the players. Something is seriously wrong for a player to choose school over nationals. Which was a bad decision or ill advised by them. But I keep wondering that we could of qualify had they been chosen. Did the TTFA miss the ball by keeping Brian Williams. It is time for new coaches to get the shot instead of recycling the same old coaches and expecting a different result

I think think by and large DJW is a proponents of "d locals could do it mantra" as it relates to both players and coaches and as such the weaknesses in the local game are left largely unchecked, because doing so would undermine the fabric of the aforementioned mantra....our coaches have been doing the same old things for decades.....I have said it before, we as ah people are not "natural thinkers" we run on instruction sets, teach by instruction set, learn by instruction set and if an instruction set fails to execute we run it again......and again .....and again hoping for different result. True application or the fostering of application is almost nonexistent in our systems of learning hence our development is by and large stunted with very little ability for innovation and most importantly quick and dynamic problem solving

I pity the fool....

Hard luck T&T. Great improvement along the course of this cycle.  The solutions to our football problems are breathtakingly simple. Its frustrating to watch these big-belly incompetents fack up this side from since U-15. Great job by the coaching staff to improve performance with few resources at their disposal.

Leal lifts Costa Rica U-20s over T&T.
CONCACAF.COM

Costa Rica (1W-0D-1L, 3 points) bounced back from a loss in its CONCACAF Under-20 Championship opener to earn a 1-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago (0-1-1, 1) on Wednesday at the Estadio Nacional.

The result lifted the tournament host into second place in Group C, three points behind El Salvador (2-0-0, 6), which defeated Bermuda (0-1-1, 1) earlier in the day, 3-1, to secure a spot in the classification stage.

Randall Leal struck for the Ticos’ only goal in the 54th minute, when he slammed a right-footed free kick from 23-yards out into the left side of the net, leaving goalkeeper Denzil Smith motionless.

The victory was Costa Rica’s victory in the competition in slightly more four years.  On February 20, 2013, it defeated Haiti by the same score in Puebla, Mexico.

Group C play concludes on Saturday with El Salvador taking on T&T in the opener, followed by a meeting between Costa Rica and Bermuda.  A win by the Costa Ricans, regardless of the other results, will see them progress.

T&T still in with a chance of advancing

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 Men produced a valiant effort but succumbed to a second half goal in Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to hosts Costa Rica in their second group stage  encounter of the CONCACAF Under 20 Men’s Championship at the National Stadium in San Jose

See Report below

The first 45 minutes of the Concacaf U-20 championship first round contest between Trinidad and Tobago and the host nation Costa Rica could be described as a ‘bruising dog fight’ which resulted in neither competitor having the upper hand but a moment of brilliance in the second half puts a dent in the World Cup aspiration of the Caribbean nation. The mathematical chance of qualification for the next round following this 1-0 loss is there but Head Coach Brian Williams and his team will need help from Caribbean counterparts Bermuda, who must put in a masterful performance to defeat the host even if T&T pulls off a win over the  unbeaten El Salvador in Saturday’s match.

“I am proud of the guys, they stuck to the plan and we could have pulled it off but that was a fantastic free-kick in the second half and we did not recover” Williams said following the match at the National Stadium in San Jose.

The coach also lamented the loss of starting goalkeeper Denzil Smith due to a shoulder injury in the 10th minute.

“Our reserve keeper is quite capable but we lost the advantage of having a third outfield player to insert into the game and put pressure on Costa Rica with fresh legs late in the second half.”

The reason for the coach’s pride is well founded as his team took the game to Costa Rica early, creating the first genuine chance in the 14th minute when defender Kori Cupid climbed above all to produce a telling header towards goal which was well save by Mario Sequeira.

The Costa Rican ‘keeper was called into action again a minute later when midfielder Noah Powder slapped a bullet towards goal after penetrating on the right flank. Things went quite after that as the host consolidated in midfield and waited for an error from T&T which came with some errant passes in their eagerness to go forward but despite that, 0-0 was the score at the end of the first half.

Nine minutes in, the Ticos struck. They were awarded a free-kick following a foul on busy forward Andy Reyes some 22 yards out from Montel Joseph’s goal. The ball always belonged to playmaker Randell Leal because there was no discussion amongst the Costa Ricans as to who would take it and we saw why as he produced a gem with such power, curl and accuracy, the defensive wall seemed insignificant and just like that it was 1-0.

Trinidad and Tobago came back hard in search of parity as they pinned Marcelo Herrera’s team deep in their own half for long periods with the ‘big’ striker Nicholas Dillon tormenting them in the air and on the ground. A flashing drive by the Central F.C player midway through the half caused a hush around the stadium but it went agonizingly inches wide of the far post. That would be the closest we would come to getting on the score sheet before Jamaican referee Kevin Morrison blew the final whistle.

T&T Captain Jabari Mitchell was practical in defeat.

“We played well but conceded the free kick which was expertly converted but we are still in with a chance and just have to go out there and do what we have to do and hope for some help from Bermuda” was the comment from the W Connection midfielder when he spoke to TTFA Media.

T&T will look to regroup and pull out all the stops in Saturday’s closing clash with El Salvador. The South Korea dream is still alive.

Not so simple... definitely not few resources or lack of preparation.. camp in Guyana, CFU test in Panama, regular training sessions for months at home, and camp in Colombia. Could be lack of acumen, by selects or adjustments/preparations/philosophy by coaches. Sometimes the in your face easy choices or decisions are not always the most productive or best in the long run.
ps: I learned that the hard way, and as such, sometimes the best route is the most difficult one.

The key toT&T's success does not start at U-20 level. To have a fair chance at qualifying for a world cup that level of training should have started at u-16/16 level. Most people may not remember but these kids were shafted from the get go and were already behind their Caribbean peers at U-15.

 http://www.socawarriors.net/mens-u15/12768-boys-staff-devastated.html

I think this is why they had losses to Caribbean minnows and have struggled to gain ground

We don't need months months of practice and then play some club team right before an important tournament. Historically we make the most improvement after extensive pracitices are competed WITH harsh testing against 2-3 top CONCACAF peers. Then rinse and repeat. This how the U.S does it. This is how Mexico does it. Panama and Honduras have been expanding their youth programs and doing the same thing. We copycat what they do..about 5 years too late. With predictable results.

Our youth need 3 things (1) practice (2) exposure/reality check (3) refinement).  Our problem is these elements are streched out over too long a period of time. This is what we did in 2007, This is what we did in 2009. And both years we qualfied for a world cup.

Brian Williams looks like a nice fella ...he is a legend of Trinidad and Tobago Football..he has a lot of knowledge to impart to young players ....but.......

as a coach/strategist/tactician he is coming up short in these areas:

Pressing
Transitioning from defensive third to attacking third
Possession
Change in the Point of Attack
Penetration and Finishing
Winning the ball back

The score line was not a true reflection of the game...we played with an average of seven players behind the ball throughout the entire game.
