Noah Powder has left New York Red Bulls II
By Austin Fido (onceametro.com)

Noah Powder has parted ways with the New York Red Bulls and is currently exploring opportunities abroad, Once A Metro can confirm, per sources familiar with the player’s situation.

The 19-year-old is a Red Bulls Academy product, who made 20 appearances for RBNY’s second team while still a schoolboy in 2016. That season brought him USL regular-season and Cup titles, and his first goal at the pro level.

Powder looked overseas for opportunities in 2017, but ultimately signed his first professional contract with the RBNY II team in July. In a curtailed season, he made 10 appearances.

Able to play on both sides of the field, in defense and midfield, Powder was primarily regarded as left-back in the Red Bulls’ set-up. As such, he had appeared to be a homegrown candidate for the role of successor to first-team starter Kemar Lawrence. He was one of five players retained on USL contracts from RBNY II’s 2017 season, and had been expected to continue with the reserve team in 2018.

Powder’s exit adds to the Red Bulls’ impressive list of youth-international caliber, Academy full backs who are not attached to the club. That list includes Matt Olosunde (currently in Manchester United’s U-23 squad), Marcello Borges (trained with RBNY last year and played for the RBNY U-23s in PDL; assumed to be staying in college for now), and Chris Gloster, reportedly on trial at Schalke. All three players have represented the US at youth international level. Powder is US-born, but has played his national-team soccer for Trinidad and Tobago’s U-17 and U-20 teams.

Another ex-Academy, former USYNT full-back, Kyle Duncan, has recently returned to RBNY - joining the current preseason camp on trial after a couple of seasons with French club Valenciennes. Duncan’s return illustrates the point that gone does not mean forgotten, and players often do cross paths with former clubs as their careers progress.

For now, however, Powder is gone and Duncan is part of RBNY’s project to build full-back depth for 2018 and beyond. That project currently includes two contracted USL players (Ethan Kutler and Andrew Lombard), two pre-season trialists (Duncan and Ismaila Jome), one 2018 draft pick (Niko De Vera), as well as first-teamers Kemar Lawrence, Amir Murillo and Connor Lade - with multiple players, including Tyler Adams and Fidel Escobar - able to cover the position. So the full-back cupboard is not bare, but Powder’s departure furthers the impression that RBNY is good at recruiting elite talent at the position, less good at retaining that talent.

Once A Metro wishes Noah Powder every success as he continues his career.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Orange County Soccer Club announced the signing of Trinidadian and Tobago U-20 international, Noah Powder for the upcoming season today. Powder, 19 joins Orange County SC from New York Red Bulls II, where he began his career with the Red Bulls U-18 Academy before making the transition to their USL side.

Real Monarchs SLC signs defender Noah Powder
RSL Communications

Real Monarchs SLC has signed DF Noah Powder ahead of the 2019 USL Championship season, General Manager Dan Egner announced today. Powder’s signing is pending league and federation approval.

“Noah was one of the top left backs in the USL last season and having over fifty USL matches under his belt at twenty years old is massive. Left back is a tough position to fill, and we couldn’t be happier to bring Noah in to fill that role for us. Noah has set goals that he is determined to reach, and we hope to continue Noah’s development and help him reach those goals.”

Powder, 20, spent the 2018 season with Orange County SC where he logged 1,636 minutes in 22 matches. Making 16 starts at left back for OCSC, Powder notched three goals and added two assists. An Edison, New Jersey native, Powder spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons with New York Red Bulls II where together with Monarchs defender Konrad Plewa, helped New York to the USL Cup title in 2016. Powder has also featured for the Trinidad & Tobago U-17 and U-20 sides since 2016.

“I'm very excited join The Real Monarch's for the 2019 season,” Powder said. “The Monarchs are a club with great potential. I will be looking to make the most of this opportunity in helping this club bring the USL Cup to Utah."

Actually he should be on the U-23 team getting ready for the Olympics. But DJW and the TTFA moving in another direction. Next WC, he and a couple of the younger youths should be replacing some of these guys on the current team.

Noah Powder was the X-Factor the Monarchs needed him to be
By Nicholas Murray (uslchampionship.com)

The biggest lineup question Real Monarchs SLC faced going into Sunday’s 2019 USL Championship Final was which player would sit in the right wingback position.

On one hand, there was James Moberg, who had earned the call in the Western Conference Final as the Monarchs went more conservative against the threat of El Paso Locomotive FC’s Omar Salgado down the flank.

On the other, there was Noah Powder, a far more aggressive option that could leave Real’s defense more exposed, but would also provide a bigger attacking threat that the Monarchs would likely need to earn victory on the road against Louisville City FC as they had against Phoenix Rising FC earlier this postseason.

Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave chose Powder, and while there might have been questions as to whether it was the right move before the game, at the end of the 90 minutes when Real had the trophy in its hands thanks in part to Powder’s strong display, it was clearly the right one.

Powder put in the performance that was needed. His passing was crisp, completing 28 of 32 passes overall, he won the majority of his duels and his speed teamed with Mikael Chang down the right side for Real proved key, especially when the game became stretched in the second half.

He showed off his flair for the spectacular, too. His first shot of the night – a blistering drive from 30 yards that Louisville goalkeeper Chris Hubbard had to claw away from finding the bottom right corner of the net – almost put the Monarchs ahead just before halftime. Instead, it set up the corner that led to Konrad Plewa’s stoppage-time finish which ended up proving the game-winner.

His second, meanwhile, effectively put the game out of reach as he was given too much space while cutting into the penalty area from the right side before arrowing a low shot into the bottom-left corner of the net. Hubbard might feel he should have done better with the effort, but the dip that saw the ball skip off the turf a couple of yards in front of him made it trickier than it might have first looked.

The best thing for the Monarchs – and Real Salt Lake’s organization – is there’s still room for the 21-year-old to grow. He can be very good on the ball, but in both Sunday’s game and that against Phoenix there were moments where he can still be too casual, allowing him to be dispossessed while putting his side on the back foot.

On Sunday night, though, the positives Powder brought – which earned him in my eyes a good shot at Man of the Match honors – far outweighed any negatives.

Known as The Special Ingredient around RSL, Powder’s addition to Olave’s recipe provided the perfect result.

Noah Powder, defender, Real Monarchs SLC
A 21-year-old fullback from Trinidad & Tobago, Powder claimed his second title in the Championship last season, helping Real Monarchs SLC top Louisville City for the league’s crown. Powder also scored in the final for his third goal of the season. Powder came up in the New York Red Bulls academy, but seemed to really have a breakout season last year, notching career-highs in minutes and matches played. Powder was integral to the Monarchs’ success last year and should be again this year too. If he continues to play at a high level, his senior national team debut could come sooner rather than later.

Powder sets up two goals but Monarchs held to draw.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

T&T defender Noah Powder had a hand in two goals but defending United Soccer League (USL) Championship Division champions, Real Monarchs failed to make good use and was held to a 3-3 draw by ten-man Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, Utah on Saturday (July 18).

The Monarchs, beaten 1-0 by San Diego Loyal when competition resumed on July 19, opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when a long throw-in by James Moberg fell to Andrew Brody just inside the penalty area, and his touch found Kyle Coffee, who controlled with one touch and then fired a finish into the top-left corner of the net.

Ten minutes later, Brody added a goal to his assist as 21-year-old Powder came through a challenge near the halfway line and moved inside from the left flank before releasing Brody on the right side.

Brody then drove forward, cut inside a defender at the top of the penalty area and shot low into the left corner to double the Monarchs’ lead.

The Monarchs almost added a third in first-half stoppage time but Switchbacks goalkeeper Sean Melvin made a big save to deny Powder when he got a clean look on goal after a good header by Coffee.

That save proved even bigger moments later when Joan Cervos followed up a hard, low shot by Usvaldo Luna from the left and bounced home the rebound to make it a one-goal game at the break.

Just past the hour-mark, however, the Monarchs restored their two-goal advantage at 3-1 orchestrated by Powder again.

Awarded a free-kick on the right flank, Powder’s near-post delivery was flicked on by Taylor Peay and into the left corner of the net.

The hosts then seemed in control, especially when Lewis was sent off with 17 minutes to go but the Switchbacks’ late rally left the Monarchs still looking for their first win of 2020.

Colorado Springs grabbed a lifeline in the 89th minute when Austin Dewing held off a challenge and set up Jordan Burt as he arrived late to finish.

It appeared the goal might only serve as a consolation, but then in the fifth minute of stoppage time, the Switchbacks earned one final chance from a corner kick on the left.

Luke Ferreira delivered a cross to the top of the six-yard area and Abdul Rwatubyaye met the ball with a powerful header that found the back of the net, completing a thrilling comeback and a 3-3 scoreline.

Neveal Hackshaw and Indy Eleven made it three wins on the trot to start the season with a 2-1 defeat of Sporting Kansas City II. Tyler Pasher fired Indy Eleven ahead in the 39th minute but four minutes into the second half, Wilson Harris got Sporting Kansas City level, only for Paddy Barrett to net in the 67th minute with what turned out to be the decisive item at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, USA.

And at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, Kennesaw, USA, the T&T trio of Duane Muckette, Triston Hodge and Leston Paul all saw action in Memphis 901 FC's 2-2 draw with at Atlanta United II.

Atlanta United took the lead through Jackson Conway in the 21st minute, however a minute before the interval, Brandon Allen drew Memphis on even terms. The hosts then regained the lead in the 57th when Coleman Gannon found the target.

Starring defeat Memphis then introduced Paul in midfield for the tiring Jean-Christopher Koffi in the 81st minute while Hodge was replaced by Raul Gonzalez, three minutes later, and the latter then set up his team's equaliser two minutes into time added on for Cal Jennings to earn their club a share of the points.

On Sunday (July 19), Leland Archer and Kierron Mason were the last T&T players to see action in the opening week when their Charleston Battery battled Birmingham Legion FC while Shannon Gomez’ Sacramento Republic met Reno 1868 FC.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Real Salt Lake signs Noah Powder for 2021 season
By RSL Communications

Real Salt Lake has signed defender Noah Powder from Real Monarchs, the club announced today. Powder will join RSL for the 2021 season.

“Noah is another success story of our development model.  He’s a young, talented player who came into the Monarchs with something to prove and is hungry to show his skills at every level,” RSL General Manager Elliot Fall said.  “He proved it by helping lead the team to a championship in 2019 and he’s really taken a step forward this year in terms of what he brings on the field and what he brings to the locker room.  We are excited to see him at our Club for years to come.”

Powder, 21, featured in 30 regular season matches for the Monarchs in 2019, scoring two goals in 2,629 minutes.  In the playoffs, he notched two assists and scored in the USL Championship Final to secure the club’s first title. To date, Powder has nine goals and seven assists in 90 USL matches, logging 7,050 minutes.  That includes one goal and four assists in 10 appearances this season.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity from this great organization.  I am extremely grateful for my time as a Monarch and want to thank their staff in helping me reach my goal,” Powder said.  “As a Monarch the main goal is to play well and earn a chance with Real Salt Lake.  I'm excited for this opportunity and ready for what’s to come in the near future."

Powder joined the Monarchs prior to the 2019 season as a young veteran in the USL Championship. Success has followed since his professional career began in 2016. The New Jersey native and Trinidad and Tobago international joined New York Red Bulls II in 2016 and helped NYRBII to a USL title as a rookie. After spending two years in Harrison, New Jersey, Powder joined Orange County SC in the USL Championship where he helped OCSC to the Western Conference Final in 2018.  Internationally, he played extensively at the U-18 and U-20 levels for Trinidad and Tobago in 2015 and 2016.

“We have been tracking Noah for a while and the Monarchs staff has done a great job with him.  He’s been in some big games at the USL level with multiple teams so he has a lot of experience there,” RSL Head Coach Freddy Juarez said.  “We feel he has the technical ability to play at the next level.  Now we have to challenge him to help him reach his full potential and help the team.”
