T&T Senior Men to play Nicaragua in two away friendlies.

The Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s Team will jet off to Nicaragua on the evening of Christmas Day, December 25th, to play that country’s Senior Men’s National Team in two international friendlies.

The games are slated for December 27th and 30th in Nicaragua and the T&T team will return home on December 31 to continue its build up to the two CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying playoff matches against Suriname on January 4th and Haiti on January 8th at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Tom Saintfiet said that these two games have come at an ideal time as he prepares the team for the two CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers in January against Haiti and Suriname.

“First of all I am very happy that the Football Association has been able to arrange these two friendly matches at such short notice because these will be important preparation games for us before the important Gold Cup qualifiers in January,” Saintfiet told TTFA Media.

“It also helps me as coach to analyse the players we will select and as well as to implement and try out possible strategies which we will want to use in our matches to follow. It will also help us in the development of the team for the future.

“ I hope we can have the best possible squad for the matches. We are still not sure about the availability of some of the European-based players and whether they will be released by their clubs because these two games and also the ones in January are not within the FIFA dates but I promise you that the players who will be selected from both foreign and local teams will form a strong squad to give us decent results in Nicaragua and to help us prepare for the important matches in January,” Saintfiet stated.

Saintfiet will announce the squad for the both games in due course once the availability of the players have been confirmed.

Nicaragua is preparing for their Gold Cup qualification matches as well, the 2017 2017 Copa Centroamericana which will be played in Panama. They are grouped with Honduras, Panama and Belize and play their opener against Honduras on January 13th.

Once T&T progresses from the CFU leg of the playoffs in January, they will meet the fifth placed team of the Copa Centroamericana in a playoff at a date to be announced for the final CONCACAF Gold Cup spot.

Nicaragua and T&T played to a 0-0 draw in a friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on October 13th, 2015

In March, 2016, Nicaragua defeated Panama 1-0 in a friendly in Managua and also drew 1-1 with El Salvador in another friendly that same month. They lost 1-0 to Honduras in a friendly in San Pedro Sula in August and drew 0-0 with St Kitts/Nevis in August. Back in December of 2015, they recorded 1-0 and 5-0 victories over Cuba at home before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss away to Costa Rica.

Well this is good news for the New Coach and local players to step up to the plate. Congrats to the Federation for organizing this match. Nicaragua is a decent sweat. Let us hope the players  don't  get home sick . Christmas and Carnival are not good times for T&T ballers.

Djw is under pressure, because locally certain fraternity is also calling for his head, so he throwing bull together to get the coach experience before the wc because the majority will ask for djw resignation if he fail with his hair brained plans..

Not to mention he want to cap as much of his players and partners players as possible... and siphone out as much money as humanly possible before he get thrown out..

Yet prior to Hart, the team lost to Bremuda & Guyana in WCQ in 2011, and lost to Grenada in 2011 Gold Cup qualifying.

Cummings getting shot was an unfortunate accident. However we shouldnt be so simple to unjustly and inaccurately try to link that incident to DJW.

SAINTFIET CALLS 28-MAN TRAINING SQUAD

Trinidad and Tobago Senior Men’s Head Coach Tom Saintfiet will conduct his first training session on Thursday, December 15th  at 7pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

This will be his opening session ahead of the two international friendlies away to Nicaragua later this month and will involve twenty-eight players who have been invited to be part of a training squad. Saintfiet will subsequently select his final squad for the two matches next week for a residential training camp before the team departs on Christmas day for Managua. The two games are carded for December 27th and 30th.

Saintfiet spoke about his selection for the training squad.

“It was a short period of time for me before I had to release a squad. It is naturally not easy if you have just arrived in the country as I prefer to have much more time to anaylzye and see the local leagues. I saw now most of the teams in the Pro League and also the Super League,” Saintfiet told TTFA Media.

“The squad is made based on my style of play but also on  consultation with several people of the technical committee, local coaches and other local people involved in football here. In the future we can also see players involved who were maybe not selected now  because then I will follow up the league more and know more about the individual players and their qualities and I would have more knowledge of the players in the local league and abroad.

“To me now it is a good moment in these sessions to see the players who play in the local league and some who play abroad who are available, to analyse to see if they fit into my thoughts on how to play and also their personalities and in a few days time the squad has to reduced,” Saintfiet said.

Notes

Carlos Edwards has made 88 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago and was a member of the 2006 World Cup Squad. He last played for T&T in an international friendly against Jamaica in November 2013.

This is Maurice Forde’s first invitation to the Men’s Senior Team. Hashim Arcia has already made appearances for the T&T Senior Team. Jomoul Francois is former T&T National Youth team player.
