'Bibi' Gardner fires Jamaica All Stars to 2-1 win over Brazil.

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaican All Stars defeated their Brazilian All Stars 2-1 in their friendly ‘Share the Love Tour’ football match at the National Stadium tonight.

Gregory Simmonds gave Jamaica the lead from the penalty spot in the 35th minute after good work by Zhelano Barnes who was pulled down in the box.

But the Brazilians regrouped after the interval and Ray Ferreira Martha Defreitas tapped home in the 54th minute after Rivaldo's corner was flicked on at the near post.

Immediately a loud cheer went up, it wasn't for the Brazilian goal, but the sight of Walter Boyd warming up. "The Pearl" remains a crowd favourite and he replaced Fabian Taylor in the 58th minute.

But it took Boyd nearly 20 minutes to excite the crowd and that he did, mesmerising two defenders before he was fouled. The resulting quick free kick caught the Brazilians napping and Ricardo Gardner fired home in the 79th minute.

The Brazilians then showed their displeasure by surrounding referee Karl Tyrell but he stood firm and the goal was allowed. The near 5,000 spectators didn't leave empty handed as Boyd showed why he is still loved, displaying great footwork that caught the attention of the Brazilians. He was knocked around a few times after that.

The tour is a spin-off of an existing Tour of Love that has successfully travelled to countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Burundi, Madagascar, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Chile, Singapore, Japan, Fiji, Indonesia and Guatemala. The Brazilians, after this tour of Jamaica, will journey to Lebanon.

The Brazilians, coached by Dunga (captain of the winning 1994 World Cup team in the United States, and two-time coach of the South American champions), saw former Barcelona star and 1999 World Player of the Year Rivaldo, as well as Edmilson, show glimpses of their brilliance. It took a fine save by goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence to deny Rivaldo from a free kick in time added on.
