Ewart Nicholson prepares to face off-spinner Jon Russ Jaggessar.
In an effort to lift themselves from the bottom rung of the Digicel PCL Regional Four-day tournament, the T&T Red force will go to Barbados with a number of newcomers for their ninth round clash at Kensington Oval starting on Friday.
The T&T Red Force is coming off two successive home losses against Guyana and Jamaica and this has forced the hands of the selectors of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) as they seek to bring in four newcomers and recall a batsman, who have had outstanding form in the domestic cricket series.
The players airmarked to come into the mix are the PowerGen duo of Ewart Nicholson and Akeil Cooper, Amir Jangoo from Merryboys, Queen’s Park all rounder Tion Webster and Central Sports batsman Kjorn Ottley.

It is not clear who they will replace as yet as the team will be officially announced today and the players will fly out tomorrow for Bridgetown.

A source which is close to the latest development revealed that Cooper has been in fine form for PowerGen getting runs consistently, while Nicholson has scored 258 runs at an average of 43 and a highest score of 115. Webster has been opening the batting and bowling for Queen’s Park which is leading the T&T Premiershipn Division, and looks the find of the local season.
In one game against Clarke Road, Webster struck 62 and 58 not out of 27 balls with five fours and five sixes and also grabbed 5/46 to lead his team to victory.

Red Force has endured a rough season winning just two matches (both against the Windwards) and losing twice to Jamaica, Guyana and once to Barbados. They are bottom of the standings on 63.8 points. So far in the second half of the season, Red Force has had one win, a drawn contest with Leeward Islands and two losses.

At the end of the loss against Jamaica at the Queen’s Park Oval coach Gus Logie made it clear that there were problems in the set up and it was not as if the players were not given all that was necessary to prepare them for competition. He even hinted that he may not be around after this season saying :”When the country has a match here, there are players sitting in the stands, so hopefully they might come back and play for Trinidad if I am not around.” the move by the selectors represents one of frustration and they are trying different combinations with a hope of getting a turn around.
