T&T does not have the depth to compete with Jamaica we are always depending on the same 5 guys to bring home a medal every year we now have 6 guys that can run low 45s Jamaica has double that T&T cannot afford injuries to anyone .

Jamaica has gotten back into the mix in the 400m and 4x400. But it isnt as gloom as it may look at the moment for us. Our weakness lies in the poor decisions that our administration makes. We seen this in the recent world relays and Rio.

We got about 3 guys capable of running mid 44s i.e. Quow, Lalonde, Lendore. Then we have 1 guy who will crack the 44s barrier very soon i.e. Cedenio. Solomon is a fighter. But he needs to be at his best to make that 4x400 team. The sad thing is that he is in his early 30s. So he might need to put more focus on training and less on running his business, if he wants to keep a spot on the team.

Now Jereem Richards came at the right time. From what I seen recently, he is capable of running a mid 44s easily. His 200m speed and 400m strength is what we need to get back into medal contention. Regardless, I'm happy that we finally got a world class 200m runner.

One result that was overlooked this weekend is Domonique Williams second place finish at the SEC this weekend. She ran a low 52.. Which is still about a second and a half off of World class status. But she is improving.

While the administration makes a lot of bad decisions our lack of depth plays a big part also Solomon is getting up there in age but there is nobody that is challenging him for a spot so his spot is pretty safe.

Quow is getting up there in age so he's going to become more injury prone and there is nobody to replace him Lalonde is getting up there in age and there is nobody to replace him he makes the same mistakes he's been making for the past couple of years he needs to go to another camp.

D Lendore and D Brown is like Siamese twins the man breaks down every year I'm glad he didn't take part in indoors this year hopefully he can last for the rest of the season he should take next year off to be fully fit for the WC and Olympics because he have not been fit for the past couple of years so you can forget about seeing any low 44s from D Lendore anytime soon.

J Richards has the potential but he is not ready yet if all 6 guys are not healthy we toast.

Yup totally agree! Our youth quarter miles have to step up to replace the aging one such as Quow and Lalonde. If they do not step up then there will be no serious continuation of always having a strong medal contending relay team.

Yeah Machel probs was injured. That maybe why he didnt run World Relays. If he can get into 44.x shape he will have done well methinks. This years talent though seems like more than 3 guys may go below 44 seconds and there will be many in the 44 range.

Well done KAB she is improving steadily. She should be running 10.8 for worlds I think if she peaks right.

That is a good time. She has been so up and down after that fiasco. But I am glad to see that she has achieved that time. I hope she remains consistent for the rest of the season. God Bless!

Wind +0.0
PL   ID   ATHLETE   SCHOOL/AFFILIATION   MARK
1   2   Ashley Henderson   San Diego State   11.13
2   1   Jonielle Smith   Auburn   11.14
3   5   Zakiya Denoon   Monroe   11.31
4   6   Jenae Ambrose   Auburn   11.35
5   7   Leya Buchanan   Oklahoma   11.39
6   9   Torie Robinson   Clemson   11.46
7   3   Shenel Crooke   Morgan State   11.50
8   4   Janet Amponsah   Middle Tennessee   11.54
9   8   Gabriele Cunningham   N.C. State   11.72

We glossed over this Penn relays result but she is improving steadily and I believe her next season will be at LSU. If coach Shaver can work his good works, with her work ethic and talent I believe at the end of her stint at LSU she can be 11.0x or possibly sub-11 barring injury/distraction.

@Trini1 .. She continues to improve race by race. Should run a low 11.2x or even high 11.1x before reaching Shaver.

It will take time to get to that stage. Remember when we didnt have many athletes running at these meets but now they are getting there.

You really are not a student of track & field are you?

Alena Brooks who placed 4th in the Women 800m in 2:03.09 actually ran a season best and new personal best in the 800m in her race and that moves her to about 52nd in the 2017 World Rankings at 800m. In addition her new PB is just 2.09 seconds short of the 2017 IAAF World Championships Qualifying Standard for Women 800m of 2:01.00. See link: http://www.ttnaaa.org/compete/standards/2017/world.html

Michelle-Lee Ahye who placed 2nd in the Women 100m Dash in a new season best of 11.06 has now moved up to 8th in the 2017 World Rankings at 100m. Her time is also well within the 2017 IAAF World Championships Qualifying Standard for Women 100m of 11.26.

Semoy Hackett who placed 4th  in the Women 200m Dash in a new season best of 22.87 has now moved up to 30th in the 2017 World Rankings at 200m. Her time is also well within the 2017 IAAF World Championships Qualifying Standard for Women 200m of 23.10.

Emmanuel Callender who placed 5th in the Men 100m Dash in 10.25 has already run 10.19 this season which currently ranks him at 59th in the 2017 World Rankings at 100m. This makes Callender the 3rd oldest sprinter in the world (behind Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin) to be currently ranked inside the top 60 in the 2017 World Rankings at 100m. His 10.19 SB is also not far off from the 10.12 IAAF World Championships Qualifying Standard for Men 100m for 2017. Also keep in mind that Callender is a stronger 200m sprinter than a 100m sprinter.

Ayanna Alexander who placed 7th in the Women Triple Jump with a 13.27m effort is the only T&T athlete who I think had a dissappointing performance in Jamaica. However her 2017 season best of 13.61 set last month in April still places her at 25th in the current 2017 World Rankings. In addition I am sure she is hoping to jump the 14.10m IAAF World Championships Qualifying Standard (which is less than her 14.40 PB) at or before our National Open Champions at the end of June which will qualify her for the 2017 World Championships in London.

Ok teacher of track and field, let the non student repeat for you "All ah seeing in dem videos iz T&T athletes finishing fourth, fifth, sixth in disappointing times smh", all what you posted does not change that point I made. You could argue now until yuh cry blood. The times are still disappointing in their individual events.

Sando I agree with you. But give some credit to MLA. Her time was the only positive thing to build on. She beat out Felix and probably would have dipped under 11 if she planned her race better. But yes mediocre results. Regardless how Socapro may try to spin it.. He just looking at the glass half full, nothing wrong with that.

How does 3 of our Team TTO athletes (Alena Brooks, Michelle-Lee Ahye & Semoy Hackett) running SB's in Jamaica and one of them running a PB in the 800m amount to mediocre results?

I know that Sando loves to complain and is a bit selective with what he chooses to see when he wants to complain (hence why I pointed out that MLA placed second and has now moved up to 8th fastest this year in the 100m) but I would have thought that you were a little more schooled about our own track & field athletes (their PB's and abilities) than he is.

The only mediocre result from our TTO athletes at the Jamaica International Invitational meet was from Ayanna Alexander in the Triple jump. Callender's time and result was decent from him based upon his average 100m time over the last number of years and the fact that his stronger event is the 200m.
Callender being beaten by Yohan Blake, Ronnie Bake and Mike Rodgers is not a disgrace. Callender also beat one of the young upcoming JA sprint-stars in Jevaughn Minzie who the Jamaicans have been rating highly and who was part of their Men 4x100m Relay squad in Rio last year.

Lets be realitic and keep things in perspective rather than blindly rushing to moan about credible performances by our T&T athletes against world class competition.

And btw keeping things in perspective Callender's 5th place 100m time of 10.25 in JA was faster than the time that Gatlin ran in winning the 100m in Japan this weekend. Check it out...

@ Soca.. I'm not going to defend my choice of words to describe the performances. MLA was the only promising performance at the meet. Okay AB did get a pb. I'll eat my words if she does get the Worlds standard. Other than that, how else would you describe the performances at the meet? I'm sure Callender and Hackett will quicker agree with me than you about their own performances this weekend.

I would describe the performances of Alena Brooks, Michelle-Lee Ahye & Semoy Hackett as good performances, Emmanuel Callender's performance as decent and Ayanna Alexander's as disappointing.

Again how can you sanely call 3 SB performances (by Alena Brooks, Michelle-Lee Ahye & Semoy Hackett) which included a PB by Alena Brooks and in addition one decent performance by Callender (who is more a 200m specialist) that was faster than Gatlin's winning 100m performance in Japan as mediocre results?

I've already outlined in detail in Reply #52 above exactly why the performances by Alena Brooks, Michelle-Lee Ahye & Semoy Hackett were all good perforamnces as they were all SB's performances that moved them all up in the IAAF 2017 Top Lists World Rankings.

I suggest you stop drinking that "unrealistic expectations coolade" that Sando gave you to drink.
I think we need to think and anaylse things a bit better before we rashly jump to chastise our T&T athletes for so-called mediocre peformances when in fact they are giving their their best efforts while taking on the best in the world.

As I said only Ayanna Alexander gave what we can describe as a mediocre peformance in the triple jump but since there is no video of her event I would be cautious to chastise her too much. What if she picked up an injury during her event for example as can easily happen when you do the triple jump and don't execute your technique correctly. Or maybe she just had a bad day at the office which happens to athletes from time to time.

The other athletes however did reasonably well and performed credibly. We could not reasonably be expecting Callender who has a PB of 10.05 set all the way back in 2009 to beat the likes of Yohan Blake with a PB of 9.69, Ronnie Bake with a PB of 9.98 and Mike Rodgers with a PB of 9.85, if all of them are anywhere near their best form. Not unless of course we are living in cloud coo coo land.

Can you try and make an argument without using "speculation", "conjecture"..i.e. unrealistic expectations coolade (I'm assuming that's how you spell Kool aid in the UK..).

Regardless, all of those SBs with the exception of MLA were average.. Hence, why I called those performances mediocre. Perhaps we both have different definitions of what mediocre is. In this case I'm using it to mean average, or in the middle. . Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I won't let someone who can't even spell "Kool aid" tell me that those performances over the weekend were above mediocrity.
