Just to be clear, did the seven openers make their debut as openers? For example, Andy Ganteaume eventually became an opener, but he started out batting lower down the order.

Yes, everybody made their debuts as openers. They were selected based on their performances as Openers.

Ganteaume is not  on the list.

Ganga's debut was in the 1997 Red Stripe Cup vs Guyana which was played from February 21-24. CLICK HERE for the scorecard, which shows that he debuted as a middle order batsman.

Balliram made his debut in the 1994 Red Stripe Cup vs Windward Islands from January 7–10, when he was aged 19 years, 10 months, 12 days. The scorecard shows him opening the batting with Kenneth Williams, who made his first class debut at 15 years old, but not as an opener.

Ganga as well because he was a specialist opener who debuted for TT as opposed to a middle order batsman who opened.
