Keep an eye on Dwight St. Hillaire 200/400m runner.  He is at the University of Kentucky. He has the potential to join the 4x4 relay pool of Cedenio,, Richards and Lendore.  Solomon, Gordon and Quow getting up in age.

Love that Mr Richards is setting his goals and attaining/surpassing them.

I still say keep an eye out of Zakiya Denoon running at LSU this season. I feel her progress will be gradual but she can follow in the footsteps of KAB and MLA. My hope is that by next year for her senior year she will be in the 11.0's and 22's. And the she can join KAB in florida where KAB can take her under her wings. My ideal scenario.

SEC Indoors Women's 200m Final

Place      Athlete      Affiliation   Time         Sec (pl)
1      Lynna IRBY   FR   Georgia   22.66         2 (1)             PB
2      Mikiah BRISCO   SR   LSU   22.81         1 (1)             PB
3      Kayelle CLARKE   SR   Kentucky   22.83         1 (2)             PB
4      Kortnei JOHNSON   JR   LSU   22.95         2 (2)             PB
5      Daija LAMPKIN   FR   Alabama   23.16         2 (3)
6      Diamond SPAULDING   JR   Texas A&M   23.28         1 (3)             SB
7      Jasmine CAMACHO-QUINN   JR   Kentucky   23.29         1 (4)
8      Brenessa THOMPSON   JR   Texas A&M   23.63         2 (4)

Kayelle Clarke asserting herself as a 200m specialist. Her start and flailing arm seems to hold her back in the 60/100 but in the 2 she thrives. Hoping to see her grow from strength to strength. Ever since that win in her final year at Carifta she seems to have gained confidence.

KAB 6th in the semi. MLA 6th in the final.

AG 5th in the semi. DL 2nd in the semi. Makes final.

Interesting developments in the womens 60m. ET 4th in the final. The two Ivorians win Gold and Silver in the 60m. Kambunji 3rd.

Another notable surprise.. Taplin dq in the first heat. He is 5th all time in the 400m. I was expecting him to get Gold.

Very shocking indeed. But it's his first year in this age category he may just need to adjust. May have had an early season injury too who knows. Let's just pray the issues get resolved so he can be back to his winning ways.

Keep an eye out for Shaniqua Bascombe the 13/14  year old girl who won the U17 100m 11.89 into -0.4. A nice tailwind and that's prob 11.70-11.75. She may just do the double.

An important point to note; At the recent concluded world indoor championships NO Caribbean athlete won a gold medal. Could this be a sign of new dismal phase in Caribbean T&F on the global stage? time will tell

BTW, the United States dominated the medal table and was far ahead from the rest of the world

Keep an eye out for Avindale Smith. He is the REAL deal. 200m and 400m specialist. Also a powerful 100m runner. Ran 10.45 at age 15 last year. Ran 47.90 to win the 400m this weekend. On the pace to be something special.

Rae Ann Serville is the real deal too.

Indoors is completely different to outdoor running.  you hardly ever find the same people winning both. for example, has Bolt ever run indoors or won an indoor medal? Its a banked track with sharp turns. I wouldn't worry too much about the results here.  Having said that, I am impressed with the return of Deon Lendore, which strengthens the 400 pool, but i am worried that Cedenio doesn't appear as strong and fast as he was two years ago. From my eyes, he appears over weight but that could be deceiving.
Never, never, ever give up! Go T&T Warriors!

Cedenio is our tallest quarter-miler and has never done a full indoor season with his club so in addition to not being physically suited to running indoors he doesn't have as much experience running indoors as our other athletes who were selected for the 4x4 team in Birmingham. Also Cedenio being more conditioned and suited to running outdoors will tend to peak later in the outdoor season anyway.
Cedenio should be just fine provided he has put in the required winter/pre-season training.

TT don't ever have an indoor season. Only the US based athletes tend to particpate. Cedenio is home based.

Cedenio is now based in the USA and trains with a professional adidas camp in Orlando and has been there for the last few seasons.

Wow, not a single post. Actually, it is very disappointing on our part.  JA  28 Gold, Bahamas 6 Gold, TT 3 Golds. And I think this JA high school TF weekend. So their best is no at the Carifta. So how effective is TF grass-root programs.

Fyi Champs in Jamaica was last weekend, not this weekend.
And actually we won 4 gold medals, 6 silver & 7 bronze medals for a total of 17 medals.
On Day 1 we won 4 medals (2 gold, 0 silver, 2 bronze)
On Day 2 we won 6 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze)
On Day 3 we won 7 medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze)

Our Boys U17 4x4 team got DQed for exchanging the baton outside of the exchange zone otherwise we would have won 1 more bronze medal for a total of 18 medals.
In addition Avindale Smith picked up a hip injury and did not start in the Boys U17 200m final where he was a strong contender to medal. Avindale was also withdrawn from our Boys U17 4x4 Relay team which would have been a strong contender for gold if he was healthy to run in the final as he was winner of the individual Boys U17 400m gold.
Adéll Colthrust the 2017 Carifta Boys U17 100m champion was also missing from our team due to injury.

Still we under-performed and won less medals than last year so it seems that we are going backwards rather than forwards.

Our main flaw was not fielding any athletes in about half the events rather than taking a leaf from Jamaica and trying to field athletes in as many events as possible. It seems that NAAA has a policy that if they believe an athlete is not a strong contender for gold then they don't want to send you to the Carifta Games and in this regard they don't seem to realize that the Carifta Games is the major development meet for young athletes in our region and the more athletes we can give the experience of competing against the best in the region is the more they can improve and then be able to come back stronger the following year to become stronger medal contenders.

Bahamas with 1/4 of T&T's population seem to understand that Carifta Games is a development meet which is why they are now reaping the fruits of their investment in their young athletes over the past number of years. Our NAAA seems to be very shortsighted in this regard and don't want to use Carifta as a development meet for our young athletes which it is.

I have heard the NAAA President Ephraim Serrette refer to the Carifta Games as the Olympics for our young athletes which clearly tells me that he has the totally wrong concept of what we should be using the Carifta Games for which is as a development meet for as many of our young talented athletes as we possible can.
If Mr Serrette does not understand how to use the Carifta Games to develop our young athletes to compete against the best young athletes in our region then all that he needs to do is to watch what Jamaica and The Bahamas are doing and to copy their development strategy. This should not be so difficult for him to figure out.

Socapro, thanks for the info. Congrats to the medal winners and those who participated in this weekend Carifta. While  as a former Carifta  partipant Emphraim may  see this as a mini Olympics, I agree with you, this a Developmental Games. I remember in one games not too long ago, there was a girls u-17 relay I think, where there were just 4 countries contesting. We were not one of them. We have over a million people and we can’t find yutes to partipate ? As you said, how come Bahamas can do it? For me, this is the main reason why we have never had a woman medal in the Olympics. You are correct. NAAA has to change its approach. We know money is always a problem. But we MUST continue to engage the govt, business and parents.  This is the point where We may have the last chance to influence some of our youths. After that is hit or miss. There is so much internal and external negative influences that can catch their attention. Anyway, let us see how the NAAA approach this next year.

I was flicking the tv channel and came up on the Diamond league in China. The 100 had Gatlin, Degrasse. The other American dude dropped out. Gatlin and Degrasse did not place. But was impressed with the Chinese sprinter who came second(he was given first, but VAR corrected that). The winner was a guy named Prescod from UK. He was in the outside and accelerated in the last 40 to pip the Chinese. It was 10. something. But it was raining and miserable, so I guess a lot of people did not want to overextend so early in the season. But the Brit say, he loved it. That is the kind of weather he was training in back home.
