lord Kitchener and Manchester football

This is kind of crazy. I was in two minds  to put this in the calypso post or football. Anyhow, here is Kitch, backed by the Late Great Fitzroy Coleman singing about Manchester's teams in 1956. Seeing that City is running away with the league and could possible win everything this year. And ManU struggling to keep up with them.

This is a song from 1956 that I can't find anywhere else so I decided to upload it here. The song is from early 1956 when City were FA Cup holders and United were league champions elect. It is unusual in it's glorification of both Manchester clubs but is from an era when Mancunians would often follow both teams, attending the game of whichever side was at home on a given Saturday. This is the earliest United song I know of (pre-dating the calypso by 2 years) and is probably one of City's earliest songs too. Lyrics below, apologies for any errors:

Football and footballers
In Manchester you'll find the headquarters
Football and footballers
In Manchester you'll find the headquarters
A wonderful performance is expected
From Manchester City and United
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

[Chorus]
Hooray, hoorah Johnstone* and Tommy Taylor
Hooray, hoorah three cheers for the city of Manchester

It's exactly 22 years ago
Manchester City put up their greatest show
Portsmouth was a strong rival
But they were beaten 2-1 in the cup final
Birmingham thought it was easy
But City beat them convincingly
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

United's history I must relate
They won the cup in 1948
In '51 they held a title grip
By beating Arsenal to the championship
And in '56 you can see quite clear
They are champions again with 3 weeks to spare
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

I raise my hat with hilarity
To managers McDowall* and Matt Busby
Their names must go down in history
For good management consistently
They've got the secret, they've got the brain
To put Manchester on top again
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

*Bobby Johnstone & Les McDowall
