TTFA announces Iran friendly for November 15.
By Joel Bailey (Newsday).

THE NATIONAL men’s football team will be back on the road next month, as they are scheduled to oppose Iran in a friendly international on November 15.

This announcement was made at a media briefing at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva yesterday.

Wayne Cunningham, the team’s media officer, admitted that the cash-strapped TT Football Association (TTFA) were not able to host a team of Iran’s calibre – they are currently 33rd in the latest FIFA rankings and had a creditable showing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in France.

“It’s (basically) teams that can afford to host us,” said Cunningham.

Both teams met once before, in a friendly match in Sao Paulo, Brazil on June 8, 2014, with Iran prevailing 2-0.

National men’s team coach Dennis Lawrence commented, “(This is) huge for us. If you look at the way that they performed in the World Cup, I thought they were very outstanding. They’re ranked 33 in the world, they’re not there by accident.

“It’s a very good, competitive test for us,” added the former T&T central defender. “We’re stepping up the ladder. When you look at the jump from UAE (to) Thailand and (now) Iran, I think it’s the best test for us.

“They’re preparing for the Asia Cup and we’re preparing for the Gold Cup. It’s the right type of challenge for us at the right time.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

I've wondered for a long time why our journalists don't demand certain answers from the FA and Head Coaches.

Why isn't Ranjitsingh being called up?

Kevan George and Ricardo John seem to be the only names not included from the originally-named Thailand squad that included Joevin and Guerra.

That would make too much and be too professional of our so-called football/sports media to do. I've been one to give Dennis Lawrence the benefit of the doubt because of what he has done representing the Red, White and Black but another omission for Greg Ranjitsingh when its glaringly obvious he merits a call up is getting to be too much. I've got nothing against Niklas Frenderup but what does Greg have to do to merit a call in Mr. Lawrence's eyes? Foncette and Phillip are decent goalkeepers we should be looking at keepers with the right age and profile to build our backline around.

Frenderup set to make debut against Iran.
By Ryan Hamilton-Davis (Newsday).

DENMARK-BORN goalkeeper Niklas Frenderup, 25, from the club Sandnes ULF in Norway, is set to make his international debut on Thursday, for Trinidad and Tobago, when they face Iran in a friendly match at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Coach Dennis Lawrence, told reporters yesterday at a media conference at the National Cycling Velodrome, Couva that the keeper is one of three new additions to the squad.

Lawrence said that while injuries have prompted the team to search for new players, the technical staff are constantly looking for new blood in order to build a foundation for the team. He added that Frednerup was one of several footballers who expressed their desire to represent Trinidad and Tobago.

“He (Frenderup) is a young goal keeper. He was born in Denmark and his mother is of Trinidad and Tobago nationality. We have acquired all his documents so he is ready to play for Trinidad and Tobago. Niklas reached out to us and indicated that he is willing to represent Trinidad and Tobago. We looked at a couple of his games and we think he can add to what we are trying to do.” Lawrence said.

The TT men's team will be looking to redeem themselves from a 1- 0 loss against Thailand on October 14. Lawrence said the Iranian team will present an even greater challenge for the Trinidad and Tobago team.

"It is a very tough competition,” Lawrence said, “Iran was ranked 33 and it is going to be a difficult test for us. Our last performance against Thailand wasn’t what we wanted it to be and the result was definitely not what we wanted so we are going out there to get a positive result. We are looking forward to the challenge, we are going to travel with a positive frame of mind and we are going to compete.”

The team will have to do without a few players due to injury, including wingers Levi Garcia and Tyrone Charles (hamstring), and Neveal Hackshaw suffered a quad strain.

Veteran winger Lester Peltier makes a return to the TT colours for the first time since January 2016, after consistent performances with his Saudi Arabia-based club Al Mujazzal, while midfielder/striker Isaiah Lee will join the squad this weekend, after duties with the national Under-20 team at the CONCACAF Championships.

Lawrence noted that the team would also be facing another challenge – the current climate condition in Iran. He told reporters that the climate will be very different from what they faced in Thailand.

“We will be going from humidity to minus temperatures so it will be cold, but it is exactly the type of challenge that players need,” Lawrence said “We now need to face these things because come Gold Cup time there will be different challenges for them. I think it is right for the players, the opposition is very tough, the conditions are totally different than they are used to.”

The squad of 21 will be set to leave for Tehran today.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Trinidad and Tobago get ready for Iran friendly with session in Tehran
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s Team underwent its first training session in wet and chilly conditions on Monday morning in Tehran as head coach Dennis Lawrence conducted a one-hour session at the Iran Football Federation headquarters training pitch. Lawrence and members of the squad arrived in Tehran on Sunday night following the 14-hour journey to Dubai from Fort Lauderdale before the one hour, 45 minute flight to Tehran.

It rained for much of the day and temperatures reached 15 degrees during the midday session and dropped to a further 11 degrees by 6pm.  The Iran national team, coached by Carlos Quieroz also trained at the facility prior to T&T’s session ahead of Thursday’s international friendly at the Azadi Stadium,

On Saturday it was an historic moment for the female football fans of Iran as hundreds of them, separated from male supporters, watched home team Persepolis going down to Japan’s Kashima Antlers after putting up a tough fight in the Asian Champions League. Women were allowed 300 seats at the 90-000-seater venue and it is left to be seen how many will show up at Thursday’s friendly. Some 100 women attended last month’s friendly against Bolivia at the national stadium here. Women have been barred from attending matches since the 1979 Islamic revolution, with authorities saying they must be protected from the masculine atmosphere. But  female fans were permitted to cheer on their team  versus Bolivia with horns and national flags from a separate stand inside the stadium.

Queiroz named a 24-man squad on the weekend to prepare for the two upcoming friendlies with T&T and Venezuela. The squad includes star forward Karim Ansarifard, who played at the 2018 World Cup.
The striker, who scored the equaliser for his country in their 1-1 draw with Portugal at the World Cup, recently joined Nottingham Forest from Olympiacos. Club Brugge forward Kaveh Razaei, experienced 34-year-old captain Masoud Shojaei and Kazan-based striker Sardar Azmoun who has 23 goals from 37 matches have all been included in the home team’s roster.

T&T will be captained by Khaleem Hyland, Charleston Battery’s US-based midfielder Ataulla Guerra and German-based winger Joevin Jones and Kazakhstan-based defender Sheldon Bateau are in the T&T line-up along with Saudi Arabia-based duo Daneil Cyrus and Lester Peltier who is back in the team after a three-year absence.

Hyland said it was clear that  game against Iran would be one of T&T’s biggest assignment in some time.

“We know the quality that Iran has. They have a huge coach and they are just coming off a strong showing at the World Cup” Hyland told TTFA Media at the Parsian International hotel in Tehran on Monday.

“We played against them before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and I think this is a huge game for us to see what level we are at and where have to go. I expect a tough game and the conditions changes just the same as Saudi Arabia. One minute it can be very humid and then very cold. We are over here to get a job done and we’ll try to stay focused and go out and do what we are here for and try to get a positive result on Thursday,” Hyland added.

With T&T preparing for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup and CONCACAF Nations League, the former Belgium-based midfielder  stated, “These are important games and you can only get better playing teams like these because they play in World Cup every four years and I think it’s a great opportunity to finally get ready for the Gold Cup and Nations League next year by playing teams of this high quality.

“We knew when Dennis took over the team it was a very difficult period. He was trying to patch up things and it was not the easiest of positions for any coach to come in under. Right now we are at a great level since then. We had to take it step by step since to fix things and so far we are getting there. Everyone has taken Dennis on board and he he is trying to implement what he wants us to do and how he wants us to carry about ourselves. I think he is a role model for a lot of the guys. He scored to take us to the 2006 World Cup and he has a lot of experience coaching under huge coaches. I think he can only help us and hopefully we can put every puzzle together and get ready for the upcoming tournaments,” Hyland added.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

At a media briefing today at the Ato Boldon Stadium, the squad was announced and it includes National Under 20 Men’s Team forward Isaiah Lee who is currently in Bradenton, Florida with the T&T Under 20 team. Lee will meet up with the squad in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday en route to Tehran.

Is this guy serious ?

why you say that

I trying to figure that out, also. And who is he reffering to specifically?
Its quite clear D Lawrence does not know what he is doing I don't know how long is his contract but he should not be coaching this team next year.

You know except for lee, Nicklas Frenderup  curtis Gonzalez and  Julien  the roster has not change much from hart under DL  .. ..I am suprised shannon gomez does not get a call up .... he plays more regular than nathan lewis in the USL  btw  does Lewis even hold down a starting spot for his club team . However lewis does play well in national colors ..

Lewis has played twice for Indy Eleven in the last six months.

In fact, Gonzales did feature under SH, but he debuted under Barber. Gonzales was on the Peru, Uruguay and China tour that preceded Dennis.

Julien, although regarded well, would have had to usurp the more experienced LBs traditionally used by Hart. Based on his age group, the last cycle wasn't really his cycle.

Kevan George and Ricardo John seem to be the only names not included from the originally-named Thailand squad that included Joevin and Guerra.

Any thoughts on who will feature in MF?

Iran football players deactivate Instagram accounts
Tehran Times

Players and coaching staff of Iran national football team have deactivated their Instagram profiles on Monday.

They have deactivated their Instagram accounts over lack of facilities in a well-coordinated action.

Team Melli, who have been scheduled to meet Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday in a friendly match, have started their preparation on Sunday for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Iran have been drawn along with Yemen, Iraq and Vietnam in Group D of the AFC Asian Cup.

Team Melli have not won the title for 42 years.

Iran: Does Hiring Foreign Football Coaches Make Economic Sense?
Financial Tribune

Branko Ivankovic, the 40th manager of Iran’s Persepolis Football Club, and Carlos Queiroz, Iran’s national football team's head coach of seven years, have created more money for the teams they lead than the value of their contracts, a report by 90TV.ir said.

“Where you actually finish in the league depends on the money you’ve spent,” Sam Allardyce, an English football manager and former professional player once famously said. “It’s a statistical fact.”

Given the depreciation of the Iranian rial, signing foreign football coaches may not be worth it anymore, but statistics concerning two famous foreign coaches in Iran, Branko—as he is known by his first name here—and Queiroz, say otherwise.

Persepolis’ qualification for the Asian Champions League final this year has brought substantial revenues for the club. A total of $2 million were awarded to the team after it advanced to the final round. If they beat Japan’s Kashima Antlers in ACL Final stage on Nov. 10 and win the title, the sum will increase to $4 million. This is while the team has already received $710,000 in previous stages.

Last year, Branko’s team made around $500,000 in the Asian Champions League when they reached the semifinal stage. In all, Persepolis will make a total of $5.2 million out of ACL provided they win their first Asian championship and $3.2 million if they finish as runners-up.

This income does not include team’s sponsorship deals or the revenues gained from selling tickets for matches in previous stages, such as the one held at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium with Qatar’s Al-Sadd SC last month.

Branko’s newest contract is worth around $750,000, suggesting that the club’s awards from ACL over the past two leagues outweigh the Croatian manager’s salary over the past four years he’s been the manager of the Iranian Reds.

The World Cup is the most lucrative and costliest football event. FIFA, football’s organizational leader in the world, rakes in billions of dollars in revenue every four years from the World Cup, while nations that host the tournament foot a bill of $10 billion or more.

The 2018 tournament was held in 11 Russian cities, beginning with 32 teams in a knockout tournament format. Iran made its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, which was also their second consecutive presence in the tourney.

The prize for reaching 2018 World Cup tournament was $8 million. The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran has, in fact, pocketed as much as $16 million, thanks to qualifying for the tournament two times in a row with Queiroz at its helm.

In his first three years as a head coach, the Portuguese football manager received a total of $4.5 million; his compensation over the following four years was reportedly around $2.2 million. Altogether, the revenues he generated for Team Melli were significantly higher than his estimated salary.

Queiroz has also been the manager of the Portugal national team and Spanish club Real Madrid, and was Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at the English club Manchester United. He has qualified three national teams to the World Cup, namely South Africa in 2002, Portugal in 2010 and Iran in 2014 and 2018.

Iran's 1st Sports Economy Conference in December

The Financial Tribune’s parent company, Donya-e-Eqtesad Media Group is scheduled to organize the First Sports Economy Conference in Iran on Dec. 2-3.

The upcoming conference will focus on several topics, including opportunities and challenges of sports industry, investment and financing of sports, economic approach to sports management, marketing in sports, sports economics and technology, as well as health and medicine in sports.

It will have economists and university-based economic scholars as well as top officials of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, sports management professionals and big business owners and economic enterprises on its scientific committee.

As Alireza Bakhtiari, the CEO of Donya-e-Eqtesad media group, pointed out in a preliminary session ahead of the event that the business of sports and all things tangentially related to it accounted for 1% of the global GDP in 2014, i.e. around $700 billion.

“This is while the perception of sports as an industry has never gained strong support from Iranian governments. The idea of organizing the First Sports Economy Conference was to facilitate the recognition of sports as an industry,” he said.

At this point, it’s clear the Ranjitsingh thing is some kinda personal issue.

It's a DJW issue

Is it DJW or is it the goalkeeper coach?
