Roy finishes on top
ttproleague.com

Defence Force striker Richard Roy outdid the field in this season’s Digicel Pro League Championship to finish top scorer with a total 14 goals, shrugging off Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh forward Willis Plaza.

Plaza finished second with 10 goals, followed by St. Ann’s Rangers midfielder Devon Modeste and T&TEC FC attacking midfielder Sylvester Teesdale both with 9 goals.

Last season’s top scorer Devorn Jorsling, former Defence Force teammate of Roy, again proved his ability in front of goal by netting 8 goals despite only joining Caledonia midway through the League.

His Morvant/Laventille teammates Ataulla Guerra and Jamal Gay both registered 7 goals.

Roy wrapped up his 2011-12 League scoring on Thursday against Jabloteh in the final match by registering a 35th minute strike in a 3-0 win. Levi Serries (32nd minute) and Christon Baptiste (45th minute) added the other items all scored in the first period.

The soldiers finished fourth on the standings with 32 points, eight points behind champions W Connection (40 points) and separated by T&TEC FC (39 points) and Caledonia AIA (38 points).

Plaza’s Jabloteh finished fifth with 27 points, DIRECTV North East Stars sixth with 20 points, Police FC seventh with 18 points and Rangers at the bottom with 17 points.

The fact that champions W Connection did not have a goal scorer in the top 5 & only one in the top ten is testimony to the fact that the team is well rounded & not dependent on one or two players to  be consistent goal scorers. If my memory serves me right when Hector left he was their top goal scorer.

In the three caps Roy has earned so far, he hasn't really put in any impressive performances. But he is only 24, so he should remain in de mix.

Roy anticipating new Scottish move.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

English agent Mike Berry has renewed his involvement with T&T players after helping former Defence Force forward Richard Roy secure a deal with Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Accies.

Roy signed a new deal with the club on Wednesday following a trial and is anticipating his first stint in Scotland.

Berry has in the past worked with several T&T standouts including Carlos Edwards, Clayton Ince and Jason Scotland among others including current T&T defender Radanfah Abu Bakr.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and I will like to thank the club for the opportunity, my wife Cheryl and Mike Berry for his efforts.

“The club is an ambitious one and I am looking forward to helping them achieve success.

“Personally I’m really excited about the move and I will push on to see how best I can contribute and possibly get the chance of a recall to the national team also,” Roy said.

Roy played for T&T at the 2012 Caribbean Cup in Antigua.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Richard "Shaka" Roy signs short term deal
hamiltonacciesfc.co.uk

Accies have signed 28 year old Trinidadian international striker Richard ‘Shaka’ Roy on a four month deal.

The player had been training with the club earlier in the close season, and has been signed from Defence Force FC.

He has 7 caps for his country.

Manager Martin Canning commented, “Shaka is added to the squad for the next few months to give us extra cover, especially having lost Eamonn Brophy to injury a couple of weeks ago. It gives him a chance now that he is living in Scotland and he came to our attention.”

He will have squad number 14.

Dead iguana photo lands ex-T&T footballer in trouble.
By Joel Bailey (Newsday).

FORMER T&T footballer Richard Roy is being investigated by an animal welfare charity in Scotland over claims that he recently killed and ate an iguana.

The Scottish SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) confirmed in a Daily Mail report earlier today that they have been made aware of the photograph and a specialist team of officers is now investigating.

A photograph of Roy appeared, on his wife Cheryl's Facebook page, which showed the former Defence Force striker holding a dead iguana by the tail, at a house in Dundee.

According to the Daily Mail report, "Roy has got six caps for T&T, where iguana meat is considered a delicacy. It is often served as a special treat at festivals. The post sparked a furious backlash after she said her husband would be eating it later."

Cheryl was quoted as saying in the report, "People need to mind their own damn business. Far too many people having a lot to say about other people's lives. If you don't like how I live my life, remove yourself, please."

Roy, 31, signed for Scottish Premiership team Hamilton on a four-month contract in August 2016. He made just two appearances and left in January 2017. Later that year he signed for Indian side NEROCA. It is unclear where he's playing now.

According to the report, "Cheryl, a PA at a care home, told the paper that the photo was a "joke" and said she had removed it from her Facebook page after the barrage of complaints."

She said, "If they were upset and if they had said that to me straight away themselves I would have deleted it straight away. Whoever it is that's hiding behind this is not very nice."

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Damn, Roy was a good striker a couple years ago - should still be able to play ball. Anyone know what he's up to now apart from chowing down on lizard?
