Regarding the Digicel Pro Bowl match between North East Stars and Central FC, here are some interesting comments made on Facebook by Terry Fenwick about Jason Marcano.

What a shame!

An old and longstanding player and friend Jason Marcano has let his club, his teammates his fans and most of all himself and his family down with his unprofessional and unacceptable behavior this week.

Players talk and the truth always surfaces and Jason in his attempt to cover the real issue and truth has unfortunately compromised his team mates in a cock and bull story about a punctured car tire.

Imagine, closing games of the season and in with a chance and one of your older and better players turns up 30 minutes before kick off with 4 other players in his car? How do you think the other players, management and sponsors think about this untimely schoolboy error?

Lol, after a very quick quiz, 4 of the players in Marcano's car identified 3 different punctured tires ?

I understand and appreciate their team spirit but on this occasion their loyalty and togetherness has been sadly abused!

The most important day of the week is match day, a day you sacrifice everything else to ensure you give the team the club the sponsors and yourself a chance to be successful ?

At 30, Jason has been a top performer not just this season but over many years in the PFL, that thing called respect that so many people want and desire is unfortunately lost?

We all make mistakes but at least stand up and take responsibility for your actions, man up?

On a brighter note, my players were outstanding tonight and thrashed NES!

Well done!

I can't find the post anymore (I think this is due to my ineptitude rather than it being taken down).

edit: Found it, still on the Central fan page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/478681882226491/ No more info on that page

Edit2: Starting line-up for Central against NE Stars;

Williams,
Benjamin, John, Marshall,
Mitchell, Oliver (c), Paul, Guerra, Dillon,
Plaza, Winchester

Known subs: Da silva, Goddard

Marcano's obviously missing, other potential candidates are; Delice, Jamal Jack, Goodridge

Not to sleuth too much lol

Jack is still suffering from a knee injury that he picked up against North East a few weeks ago but started back training today. Goodridge and Delice picked up injuries before the Jabloteh match. That's why Noel played left back against Jabloteh and Mitchell against North East recently.

Central FC’s Marcano is T&T proud

Central FC’s Marcano is T&T proud
CONCACAF.com

For Jason Marcano, there is no greater feeling than representing Trinidad & Tobago on the football pitch. That’s true when he suits up for the Soca Warriors as well as when he competes in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL).

Marcano hopes to make an appearance in a fourth SCCL during the 2016/17 edition, when his Central FC side takes its second straight trip to the annual tournament. The 32-year-old also participated twice with San Juan Jabloteh.

“It’s an honor, second to getting called into the national team, to go and play to represent your country,” said Marcano, who was last played for T&T in a 2-2 draw against Grenada on March 19. “Getting to do it in CONCACAF is important.”

Marcano said Central FC’s first experience in the SCCL was a positive one. The Sharks finished second in Group D on goal difference, losing twice on the road, while going unbeaten at home with a win against Comunicaciones and a draw with the LA Galaxy.

Back in the SCCL, Marcano believes that expectations have been raised.

“So long as the players have the togetherness and perform as a team, we just have to get it right on the field,” he expressed. “[With players like] Leston Paul and Jamal Jack, we have a lot of leaders on the team. We just have to go out there and do our job. I believe we will do well this time, better.”

Marcano is a big reason why Central FC is returning to the SCCL. He converted the first of four penalty kicks in a CFU Club Championship semifinal against Haiti’s Don Bosco that sent the Sharks into the final.

Against Trinidad rival DirecTV W Connection, Marcano scored a late insurance goal in a 3-0 victory in the final, Central’s second consecutive regional title.

“We have W Connection during the season, but it was best to go out and do it at a higher level at the [CFU Championship] because they performed very well against us during the season,” commented Marcano. “We always know we have a good challenge with them because they’re a great team as well. To beat them on the club championship level was even better for us. It showed which is the better team in the Caribbean.”

Central FC also won the TT Pro League for a second consecutive year, giving it an opportunity to earn CFU honors for a third time next year.

The cycle of success continues for Marcano and Central FC.

“I just hope we keep our players. I know sometimes new players are brought in and players look to leave the country,” Marcano finished. “I believe in our team, maybe get a little enhancement, but keep our team and we’ll be good to go.”

Central FC will face the Vancouver Whitecaps and Sporting Kansas City in SCCL, Group C play later this year.

T&T footballer Marcano dies
By Joel Bailey (T&T Newsday)

THE LOCAL football fraternity was plunged into mourning as former TT player Jason Marcano died in a vehicular accident this morning, at the age of 35.

Details are still sketchy but it is understood that the accident occurred in east Trinidad. Marcano, who was married and a father of a son, represented TT in 12 international matches, since his debut on October 17, 2007 against El Salvador. He won numerous titles, including Pro League and FA Cup, with San Juan Jabloteh and Central FC, during his career.

His cousin, Elton John, is currently playing with Halifax Wanderers in the inaugural Canadian Professional League.

Paying tribute to Marcano was former Member of Parliament Alicia Hospedales who wrote, on his Facebook page, "Can't even begin to comprehend what is happening ... got the news of cousin Jason Marcano dying in an accident early this morning - he was a multi-talented footballer, very supportive and loving son to his parents and a loving father, friend and cousin."

Central FC remembers Jason Marcano
Central FC Media

It is with great sadness that members of the Central F.C. family heard of the passing of one of the club’s iconic players, Jason Marcano, who died in a car accident on Thursday morning aged 36.

Jason, or “Nelly” as he was affectionately known, joined Central F.C. in January 2013 after spending several years at San Juan Jabloteh.

In his six seasons with The Sharks, Jason played in well over 100 professional games, scoring more than 40 goals while assisting in over 30 items. During this period, Jason and his Central F.C. team mates won 17 trophies including back to back Caribbean Club Championships and an unprecedented three consecutive Pro League titles.

But the statistics do not pay justice to his real contribution to professional football in Trinidad & Tobago. As a playmaker, he had a reputation of being a maverick. He could turn nothing into something and create opportunities for his team which could turn a game or even win the match.

This natural flair would bring the crowds to their feet. If statistics were available, they would show that Jason’s approach play contributed to many more goals- and victories- than the numbers reveal.

But his love of the unconventional lead to many frustrations from his coaches. Not unlike England’s Matt Le Tissier, Jason’s creativity and desire to run with the ball, went against the disciplined tactics of his coaches. This may have been the reason that Jason only represented Trinidad & Tobago on 12 occasions, when the public were convinced that he should have appeared more regularly.

On the ball, Jason was incredibly difficult to dispossess. While he appeared to be all arms and legs, virtually stumbling through challenge after challenge, he would retain possession until, inevitably, he would be smashed to the ground by a frustrated defender. Jason was fouled mercilessly and his unique high-pitched protests could be clearly heard from the stands. Yet Jason was immensely popular with all players, officials and coaches throughout the Pro League.

Central F.C. Managing Director, Brent Sancho said: “We are all deeply shocked by this news. It’s never easy to hear of a young man losing his life, but Jason was part of the Central F.C. fabric. He played a part in all of our successes and his contribution to team morale was immeasurable. Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to Jason’s wife, children, family and friends. T&T’s professional football has lost a great entertainer today.”

Daren Mohamdally of S.I.S., Central F.C.’s first club sponsor, said “Jason was such a likeable guy. I’m stunned by this news and my prayers go out to his young family. He embodied the spirit of Central F.C. that made the club so successful. He was always on hand to support the club’s community projects with a smile, and his performances for the club will remain in my memory”

While his goals will be remembered, his smile will be eternally missed.

Former T&T and Jabloteh player laid to rest.
By Joel Bailey (Newsday).

FORMER T&T footballer Jason Marcano was laid to rest at the D’Abadie Public Cemetery yesterday, after a funeral service at the Arima Velodrome.

Hundreds of family members, friends, fans and fellow footballers turned out for the 90-minute ceremony, which was conducted by Reverend Desmond Austin of the Tunapuna Open Bible Church.

Among those in attendance were Arima Mayor Lisa Morris-Julien, and members of the Soca Warriors team, who played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany – Brent Sancho (owner of Marcano’s former club Central FC), Clayton Ince, Anthony Wolfe and Densill Theobald.

Also, at the funeral were staff and players of San Juan Jabloteh (his club until his passing last Thursday) and former coaches at Arima Senior Comprehensive (now Arima North Secondary) Michael Grayson and Dave Weekes.

Delivering a tribute was his niece Shania, who described Marcano as her “father” who always ensured the best for her.

“Every family day, he brought joy and happiness to everyone,” she said.

“He would make sure you get off that chair to sing and dance with him.”

She continued, “Anything to make someone happy, just call Uncle Jason…never a dull moment with him.

“He was the father I never had. I really appreciate everything he has done for me. He had a very good heart and I’m sure not a single person has a bad memory of my uncle and father in one.” However, Marcano’s cousin Elton John, who plays for Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Professional League, was unable to attend. The 35-year-old, who died in a vehicular accident along the Eastern Main Road in Arouca, leaves to mourn his parents Maria John and Steve Marcano, wife Liz and his children Janio, Kayla and Jaheim.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
