12 T&T players for The Hundred tourney

Twelve Trinidad and To­ba­go crick­eters have made them­selves avail­able for the in­au­gur­al “The Hun­dred” tour­na­ment set for Eng­land next year.

The draft for the tour­na­ment will take place on Sun­day with the likes of Dwayne Bra­vo, Sunil Nar­ine and Kieron Pol­lard hav­ing the high­est re­serve prices of all the lo­cal play­ers in­volved. They are priced at £100k.

The tour­na­ment will see eight teams play­ing the 100-ball tour­na­ment tak­ing place be­tween Ju­ly 17 and Au­gust 16 in 2020. An over will con­sist of 10 balls as op­posed to six. The eight teams will com­prise of both men and women sides and are Man­ches­ter Orig­i­nals, North­ern Su­per­charg­ers, Birm­ing­ham Phoenix, Trent Rock­ets, Welsh Fire, Lon­don Spir­it, Oval In­vin­ci­bles and South­ern Brave.

Hard-hit­ting bats­man Nicholas Pooran has fetched £75k while Evin Lewis has a re­served price of £50k and Lendl Sim­mons £40k. The rest of the lo­cal play­ers in Dar­ren Bra­vo, Rayad Em­rit, Shan­non Gabriel, Khary Pierre, De­nesh Ramdin and Ravi Ram­paul have no re­serve prices.

While oth­er West In­di­an crick­eters will be in­volved in the tour­na­ment, Ja­maican Chris Gayle has the high­est re­serve price of £125k. The new com­pe­ti­tion is be­ing host­ed by the Eng­land and Wales Crick­et Board with the men’s and women’s com­pe­ti­tions run­ning con­cur­rent­ly. Teams will play each oth­er once, apart from their paired ‘ri­vals’, whom they will meet twice home and away.

The paired ri­vals are Leeds and Man­ches­ter, the two Lon­don teams, Birm­ing­ham and Not­ting­ham and Southamp­ton and Cardiff.

There will be 32 league match­es in to­tal, with the top three fin­ish­ers com­pet­ing in the Fi­nals Day. The top team au­to­mat­i­cal­ly reach­es the fi­nal, with sec­ond ver­sus third for the oth­er spot in the fi­nal.

Among the in­ter­na­tion­al acts set to grace, the tour­na­ment in­cludes Aus­tralian star Steve Smith, Eng­land’s World Cup hero Ben Stokes and fast-bowler Jofra Archer.
