Nailah Blackman nominated for BET Award, fans urged to votehttp://www.looptt.com/content/nailah-blackman-nominated-bet-award-fans-urged-voteJust 15 months after making her debut in soca, Nailah Blackman has been nominated for a BET Award.
The 20-year-old singer has been nominated in the Best New International Act category.
When contacted, Blackman could barely contain her excitement.
"I feel amazing, exhilarated I can't believe this is happening," said Blackman.
"Who knew in 15 months this would be happening," she said.
Blackman, the granddaughter of Garfield Blackman (Ras Shorty I), the inventor of soca, has been on an upward trajectory since debuting last Carnival with Kees Dieffenthaller on the track 'Work Out'.
She has since released a slew of hits including 'Baddish' with dancehall star Shenseea, 'Sokah', 'O Lawd Oye' and 'Baila Mami'.
Blackman has been focused on lifting her international profile in 2018 and has been touring constantly since T&T's Carnival ended in March.
Blackman is managed by Lorraine O'Conner and Anson Soverall, who is also her producer. He told Loop that everything is going to plan.
"This year is all about international success, stuff is happening," he said.
The Best New International Act winner will be determined by votes.
To vote, go to the website and click on Blackman's picture or vote on the BET International's Instagram page using the hashtag #IPICKNAILAHB18
Soverall is appealing to all Caribbean people to support Blackman as she is the lone Caribbean person nominated.
Voting ends on June 19.
The BET Awards will take place on June 26 and will be hosted by Jamie Foxx.
