U-19 Community Invitational Tournament kicks off on December 21st
Next Level Consulting Limited

There will be a new and exciting youth football tournament on the calendar for sports fans across Trinidad and Tobago this month. For many years, the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) has been duly considered the breeding ground of the nation’s young football stars of the future. The Next Level Consulting Limited U19 Community Invitational Tournament kicks off on 21 December and seeks to build upon that youth football landscape by providing another platform for our nation’s youths to play, to develop and to be scouted and/or recruited for the next stage of their football careers.

Starting 21 December, communities island-wide will be keenly represented by their talented young footballers in the TTFA sanctioned NLCL U19 tournament. Academies, youth Pro League, SSFL and community teams will be vying for the highly coveted 2019-20 Next Level Consulting, Limited Under 19 Community Challenge trophy. A total of 11 teams from Port of Spain to Guayaguayare and Sangre Grande to Point Fortin will battle in a home and away format in this new league tournament.

The tournament, which will feature late evening and afternoon games, will have two groups: a North/East group and a South/Central group. Teams will play two games each week. The North/East group will comprise Trendsetter Hawks, Fatima College, MaGauya United (Mayaro), SP Boyz FC (Manzanilla/Sangre Grande) and Hearts of Maloney. The South/Central group will showcase Mascall Coaching School (Moruga), Point Fortin Civic, D.C.S./Dass Trace (La Brea and Enterprise combination), Gasparillo Youths, Princes Town Achievers and All Blacks F.C. (Fyzabad).

The brainchild of tournament chair Brian Jordan, owner of security company Next Level Consulting Limited, the tournament is ably supported by an organising committee comprised of co-owner and public relations officer Mrs Germaine Jordan and team liaison Ms Sandra Pompey of Gasparillo Youths. The organisers are also thankful for valued sponsors Ramlogan & Sons Sports (Couva and Marabella), Ramsingh Sports and the Maritime Financial Group.

Mr Jordan stated: “Football fans will be super excited to see their sons, grandsons, brothers, nephews, cousins, and neighbours run out and represent their communities in this tournament. Many well-known SSFL stars will be coming up against other players of very high quality, and many of whom they would not have faced during their school season in this tournament.”

He added: “We will work our tails off to ensure Tobago is represented similarly in the tournament next year.”

The NLCL U19 community tournament expects supporters to come out in their numbers to root for their respective teams. Additionally, many seasonal visitors and residents coming for the holidays and for Carnival will find the tournament another enjoyable option for spending their time as they take in a game or two.

Tournament organisers have invited and expect scouts from various universities and professional teams, locally and abroad, to attend tournament games to recruit from the available talent. They have also partnered with the very popular Talk Yuh Mind social media video content providers to cover feature games throughout the season.

Next Level Consulting Limited feels very strongly that this tournament can help to develop our young footballers and keep our youth off the streets, gainfully engaged in a sport they love and away from the criminal element.

All of the above. There are some who played in the SSFL, Youth Pro League, Republic Cup, Super League etc. and some who are only affilitied with the community team.

Nice initiative

Tallman -- I assume they only affiliated with this team for the tournament and not playing/attached to other teams as well simultaneously (like a PFL team for instance)

Gasparillo Youths stay undefeated in the NLC Limited U-19 Tournament
By Kirwin Weston

Naparima College attacking midfielder Jabari Lee's solo run helped put the icing on the cake for Gasparillo Youths, as they secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory over DCS/Dass Trace today.

Lee’s mazy 20 yard run took him past several defenders before he crossed for first half substitute Adica Ash, who slotted a right footed shot past opposing goalkeeper Randy Gomez—who was caught haplessly at the near post.

Gasparillo’s victory today put them unassailably atop Group B after 7 games in the inaugural U-19 tournament, which is sponsored by Next Level Consulting Limited. DCS/Dass Trace (Darius Coaching School) remain second after the same number of games.

“So far the tournament has been well planned, so far we have had officials coming out for every game, the games start on time and we see a high level of football being played in this under 19 tournaments, which I hope they will continue in years to come,” said Gasparillo head coach Mark Ranghel.

Gasparillo led 2-0 at the half with both goals initiated by aerial crosses from Sembi Hart-Smith. The first cross produced a thumping attacking header from unmarked left full back Darren Moore, which left Gomez with no chance after 19 minutes. Eight minutes after, Gomez advanced too far off his line only to fumble the ball. Gasparillo forward Ricardo Williams took the pleasure of slotting home the loose ball to double their lead.

DCS/Dass Trace got a goal from second half substitute Josiah Noble. Noble, who played at right full back and elegantly roamed up and down the flank, got a sight at goal from about 20 yards where his right footed shot beat Pleasantville Secondary school player Raheem Lee in goal.

In total, just under 50% of the players who took the field today played in last season’s SSFL tournament. Thaj Neptune, Jardel Sinclair and Luke Phillip lined up for DCS/Dass Trace, whilst Jabari Lee, Raheem Lee, Tarik Lee, Dillion Yearwood and Akeel Phillip lined up for Gasparillo. Naparima standout midfielder Shoaib Khan missed today’s match due to injury.

Coach Ranghel sounded confident after today’s result, as he outlined their objectives for the tournament: “Basically our aim is to win the tournament. Our second aim is to go through the tournament without any defeats.”

The NLC Limited U19 tournament next round of matches will take place on January 22, 2020 with quarter-finals set to commence on February 1st.

MaGuaya United are the 2019-2020 NLCL U-19 Community Invitational Tournament Champions
NLCL Media

The packed Mayaro Recreation Ground witnessed two keenly contested games on Sunday. MaGuaya United defeated Deportivo P.F. Youths 3-2 to win the Next Level Consulting, Limited U19 Community Invitational Tournament Championship final, in the second game of the top four doubleheader. Before that, Gasparillo Youths were able to edge D.C.S./Dass Trace by a similar 3-2 scoreline, to take third place, in the first game of the doubleheader.

MaGuaya got their goals from Akeal Pierre, Kyrise Frontin, and talisman, Isa Bramble, while Ezekiel Kesar and the ever-consistent Jaiye Sheppard, scored for Deportivo. The newly crowned champions were coached to the title by Joseph Weekes, Leston Paul and Ryan “Fry” Stewart and featured current and former Naparima College standouts, Chakim Guy, Reynaldo McIntosh, and goalscorer, Bramble.

From the beginning of the tournament in December 2019 until the Championship game on Sunday, MaGuaya went undefeated, and were able to narrowly convert home field advantage in front of a large contingent of their supporters. Even so, the plucky Deportivo team from Point Fortin, proved worthy challengers and could consider themselves unlucky to come up short in a topsy turvy game.

The winners will enjoy the Next Level Consulting (NLC), Limited sponsored, five thousand dollar ($5,000.00) first prize, as well as, the Championship trophy and medals sponsored by Ramsingh Sportsworld.

Tournament Chairman, and owner of Next Level Consulting, Limited, Mr. Brian Jordan said, “When we started on this journey, we wanted to make a difference in the footballing lives of these talented youngsters by providing a platform to showcase their talent and skills”

He added, “Without our sponsors, this entire tournament would not have been possible, and we would like to thank Ramlogan and Sons (Couva and Marabella), Ramsingh Sportsworld, Maritime Insurance, the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation and National Energy Corporation of Trinidad & Tobago. We also must say thanks to the Tournament Committee (Ms. Sandra Pompey, Mr. Don Griffith, and Mrs. Germaine Jordan), all of whom worked so diligently week in, week out to ensure football and youth were the winners in this tournament. Last but not least, we also collectively wish to thank all of the families, fans, supporters, as well as, all of the teams who were able to compete this year, and look forward to another great season, starting December 2020.”

MaGuaya Utd top NLC U-19 Invitational Tournament
BY NARISSA FRASER (NEWSDAY).

AFTER an impressive unbeaten run, MaGuaya United are the 2019/2020 Next Level Consulting (NLC) Ltd under-19 Community Invitational Tournament champions. The team defeated Deportivo Point Fortin Youths 3-2 on Sunday at the Mayaro Recreation Ground.

Akeal Pierre, Kyrise Frontin and Isa Bramble put their names on the scoresheet to lead MaGuaya to victory, while captain Ezekiel Kesar and Jaiye Sheppard scored for Deportivo. Sheppard, who attends Presentation College, San Fernando, was recently awarded SSFL (Secondary Schools’ Football League) player of the year.

The champions were coached by Joseph Weekes, former national under-17 and under-20 captain Leston Paul and Ryan “Fry” Stewart.

In addition to the championship trophy and individual medals, they were awarded a $5,000 cheque sponsored by NLC Ltd.

Weekes has been coaching for over 25 years. Speaking with Newsday, on Tuesday afternoon, he said it was a “fitting” final as both teams performed well.

“We are trying to keep the team together and see if we can get into some other competitions that are upcoming.

“The team was jubilant but as youth players, I don’t believe they really understand what their victory would have brought back to the community.”

Newsday also chatted with Deportivo head coach Selvon Francis who said the tournament went well, but added there were a few issues with officiating.

“But as I tell my players, we focus on what we have control over.

“We had a lot of missed opportunities, so even if they (MaGuaya) scored an offside goal, we had enough opportunities to cancel out those offside goals. So I’m not going to dwell on that as the reason we didn’t win. We didn’t win because we didn’t score (more).”

He said the team had a solid performance and that supporters and players from the other team came to congratulate them after the match.

Deportivo eight had four losses and one draw out of 13 matches. Francis has been coaching for 20 years but has only been with this team for two years.

He said the next step for the team is the Youth Pro League which kicks off in two weeks.

“I already know what I need to work on with them. It was a very timely tournament.”

The third-place match between Gasparillo Youths and D.C.S./Dass Trace also took place on Sunday, ending 3-2 in favour of Gasparillo.

The tournament began on December 21, 2019 and featured 10 teams in two groups. Group A featured SP Boyz, MaGuaya United, Hearts of Maloney and Trendsetter Hawks. Group B consisted of Mascall F.A, All Blacks FC, Deportivo P.F Youths, Gasparillo Youths, DCS/Dass Trace and Princes Town Achievers.

Chairman of the tournament Brian Jordan said, “When we started on this journey, we wanted to make a difference in the footballing lives of these talented youngsters by providing a platform to showcase their talent and skills”

“We want to collectively wish to thank all of the families, fans, supporters as well as all of the teams who were able to compete this year, and look forward to another great season, starting December 2020.”

2021 NLCL U-19 Community Invitational Tournament kicks off in December
NLCL Media

San Fernando – August 11, 2021 – After a successful kickoff in 2019, and cancellation due to Covid in 2020, the Next Level Consulting, Limited U19 Community Invitational Tournament 2021 season is back!

The kickoff is carded for December 18th of this year, once the  committee receives approvals from the Ministry of Health, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Ministry of Sport and the Normalization Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA).

“We’re going to be bigger too! We have already registered most of our teams in Trinidad and are working to register the top Tobago teams for our exciting new season. We all can’t wait to get back on the field!” announced Chairman, Brian K. Jordan.

He added, “With recreational Covid-19 restrictions still in place, our tournament committee expects to continue working with the CMO’s office to ensure the safety protocols we implement are more than adequate. Safety of all parties, especially our young talent, comes first for us. “

Mr. Jordan further stated, “Once the key stakeholders such as the teams, coaches, players, match officials, police, venues, as well as, the Normalization Committee of the TTFA continue to see value in our efforts, the tournament is scheduled to run from December, 2021 to March, 2022, with teams from each of the various zones vying for a challenge trophy, as well as, other awards and prizes.”

The tournament will again provide a strong platform for our young adults to play more organized football following the scheduled completion of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL). With this opportunity to play more organized football, further development of the national youth (and senior) team player pool becomes a real possibility.

Next Level Consulting, Limited U-19 Community Invitational Tournament welcomes Tobago!
NLCL Media

Soon many of the nation’s top under 19 football teams will be able to get back on the football field to compete for the Next Level Consulting, Limited U19 Community Invitational Tournament 2021_22 Championship title. The tournament expects to kickoff on December 18th of this year, once the organizing committee receives requisite approvals from the Ministry of Health, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Ministry of Sport and the Normalization Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA).

Tournament Chairman, Mr. Jordan stated, “We had a very cordial meeting with Mr. Hadad of the TTFA Normalization Committee, as well as, the TTFA General Secretary, Mr. Mohammed, and the Technical Director, Mr. LaFoucade recently. We appreciated them taking the time to meet as part of their due diligence. Like their predecessors, they now have a better idea as to our organization and how advanced and detailed our planning is. They were made aware we have also sent to the CMO, and Minister of Health, a very stringent set of Covid-19 protocols for review, input, and potential approval ahead of kickoff. In accordance, with our safety first and foremost approach, our committee would have developed those protocols with the assistance of experienced local based medical professionals.”

He added, “We now officially have the best Tobago youth teams and talent registered. Also, quite a few teams, including a few from the Secondary School Football League, have reached out to us inquiring about participating this season. With only a few remaining slots, we expect to be closing out registrations soon in both islands.”

Co-owner of Next Level Consulting, Limited, and Tournament Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mrs. Germaine Jordan announced, “We are incredibly happy that so many stakeholders continue to see the value in this tournament, including our fantastic teams, match officials, supporters, communities and last but not least, our valued sponsors. Everyone can again expect a professionally run tournament showcasing many of our young talent vying for national selection, scholarships, and furthering their careers in a sport we all love.”

The NLCL tournament committee, which includes Ms. Sandra Pompey, Mr. Don Griffith, as well as, Mr and Mrs Jordan, would like to thank the National Lotteries Control Board, National Energy Corporation, Comfort Keepers Assisted Living Facility, and all other supporters for their generous and kind sponsorship and partial underwriting of tournament costs.

NLCL U-19 Community Invitational Tournament is now the NLCL Under 19 Community Cup
NLCL Media

Next Level Consulting Limited is rebranding their third annual Invitational Tournament! As soon as we return to sporting activities and the Ministry of Health and the CMO gives permission, the nation’s largest private under 19 football tournament would be known as the NLCL Under-19 Community Cup according to its organizers.

“Having grown in short order from ten teams all based in Trinidad in 2019, to sixteen teams between Trinidad & Tobago, we consulted with a few leading public relations and marketing professionals, and overwhelmingly, they all concurred that a simple renaming and rebranding exercise was in order, to properly reflect the national status of the tournament.” Tournament Chairman, Mr. Brian Jordan expanded further, “As part of this exercise, we have hired event management and sponsorship guru - Mr. Matthew Dasent to assist the NLCL on this journey and we are confident in his team to professionally handle the various elements involved.”

Why a fete promoter? Many football enthusiasts may ask. However, Matthews’ employment at past manufacturing stalwarts such as Carib Brewery and the House of Angostura, along with staging iconic events like Reggae on the Bay and Tuesday on the Rocks all have given Mr. Dasent ample knowledge and experience which the tournament requires to take it to the next level. Mr. Dasent mentioned, “Being in the event promotion and management space for more than two decades, I totally get the vision and the passion from Mr. Jordan and his committee. For quite some time, sports, specifically football, have been ripe for expansion and adding a more entertainment driven strategy in this new normal give us the space to expand and explore.” He added, “This tournament typically kicks off in the Christmas season and would run through the hectic Carnival season. Once completed, I’m very sure there will be quite a few more corporate sponsors and fans who will also want to play their part in supporting our young talented national footballers and their communities, while taking advantage of the television and other media coverage the tournament offers.”

Tournament Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Germaine Jordan, reiterated, “This is another great example of a strategic partnership which will bring added value to national youth football, and we are working on quite a few more exciting partnerships. Keeping in mind our title sponsor is primarily in the safety and security business. As such, our organizing committee and all of our registered teams from both islands await receiving the requisite approvals from the Ministry of Health, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Ministry of Sports, and the Normalization Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA). This would be in strict accordance with our partners, as well as, our own safety first and foremost approach, which we all feel is most prudent at this time.”

As always, the NLCL tournament committee, which includes Ms. Sandra Pompey, Mr. Don Griffith, as well as, Mr. and Mrs. Jordan, would like to thank SOCO Restaurant (NYC), the National Lotteries Control Board, National Energy Corporation, Comfort Keepers Assisted Living Facility, and all other supporters for their generous and kind sponsorship and partial underwriting of tournament costs.

Lights out at the Velodrome! Police intervention thwarts Malabar in NLCL U-19 clash with leaders, SMS.
By Roneil Walcott (Wired868)

Malabar Young Stars were leading Soccer Made Simple 3-1 in the 83rd minute of their Next Level Consultant Ltd (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup match at the Arima Velodrome when a police officer strolled on to the field and ordered referee Oswald Samuel to instantly blow off the game.

Less than 10 minutes later, around 9:40pm, the lights at the Velodrome went off, with players, technical staff and supporters still making their way through the car park area.

“We saw the police officer just walk out on the field and at first I thought it was a warrant for an arrest or something […] The police stopped the game for whatever personal and other reasons not really related to football. Ten minutes to go in a youth under-19 game. I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t continue the game.”

Like so many other spectators, technical staff and a sprinkling of media personnel, Soccer Made Simple manager Stephen Williams was trying to make sense of it all.

Present at the Velodrome was the NLCL U-19 Community Cup chairman and tournament organiser Brian Jordan, who promptly offered Wired868 an explanation, having reached out to Arima Borough Corporation CEO Cheryl Sirju-Chong via cellphone.

“I was called about five minutes ago by the superintendent of the Arima Borough Corporation Police,” a bewildered Jordan explained, “and advised that they were expecting to be here until 9pm. And I advised her that all of our documentation, including an email as recent as Wednesday, said, ‘no, we’ll be here until 10pm’. Chances are it’s a miscommunication…”

While still on the call with Sirju-Chong, Jordan attempted to pass the phone to the officer who had walked onto the field and ordered the game to be stopped. The officer, however, declined to speak to the CEO, stating that he took his orders from his boss.

Jordan continued, “The police indicated that they weren’t able to reach the CEO [Sirju-Chong] but they did reach the deputy CEO [Walter Thomas] who advised that they should shut the game and the lights down if there wasn’t a cash payment made on the spot for the extra hour that the officers deemed would be additional duty.

“Now, mind you, I booked the venue until 10pm so I didn’t expect to have this conversation…”

“What was the cash amount being requested?” inquired Wired868.

“There was just demand of a cash payment and when I said ‘no, we need to clear this up’, nobody said this was the amount,” said Jordan. “When I contacted the CEO, [she] said ‘No, this should not be happening’…”

Sirju-Chong instructed, via Jordan’s call to her, that the lights be put back on.

They were indeed back on in the Velodrome just before 10pm. But by that time, players had already changed out of their kits, the stands were empty and Jordan, the technical staff of both teams and Samuel and his officiating crew were in something of an emergency meeting in one of the changing rooms.

“Have no way I going back out dey,” exclaimed a player from the Malabar outfit. “I done cold like dog nose!”

The 80-plus minutes of entertaining action, during which time Malabar striker Jorel Grant notched a brace in the top-of-the-table Group A clash, proved to be a mere footnote to the night’s proceedings.

But it was an intriguing game which saw Malabar shooting out of the blocks against the Group A leaders and giving them more than they could handle on the night.

Slender in built but strong on the ball and with feet nearly as quick as Usain Bolt’s, Grant proved to be a handful for the defenders all game. His mazy 37th minute item summed up his night’s work nicely, the Grant puzzle proving a bit too perplexing for the Soccer Made Simple team to figure out last night.

Until the NLCL organising committee makes a final decision, Malabar will remain on six points, with Soccer Made Simple’s nine points topping Group A.

In the earlier Group A game, Cantaro United got a brace from their nippy forward Jaydon Charles to register a facile 4-1 win over cellar-placed Creek S&CC and climb to seven points.

In truth, with better finishing, Charles could have had a beaver trick on the evening. Still, his two items were delightful on the eye as on both occasions he left the Creek defence and goalkeeper Joash Harris in his wake with some nifty skill before applying clinical close-range finishes.

Also, for the second Thursday running, Charles’ Cantaro teammate Nathaniel ‘Bubba’ Perouse strode around the park like he owned the place and added another free-kick goal to his collection, beating Harris from some 30-plus yards with a wicked, dipping right-footed effort just before the 70-minute mark.

“Who he feel he is boy? He feel he is Cristi awa?” joked one Malabar player looking on from the stands as Bubba, hands akimbo, stood at the beginning of his long run-up.

He may not be Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo but the 21-year-old Bubba sure can hit ’em. And yesterday, the former SSFL League and Intercol winner helped Cantaro to knock Creek’s lights out at the Arima Velodrome.

The Arima Borough Police would later literally knock the lights out at the Velodrome as well.

Reached for comment, D’Abadie O’Meara MP and former Arima mayor Lisa Morris-Julian expressed her shock and displeasure, adding that she will be formally writing deputy CEO Thomas to ascertain precisely what caused the abrupt stoppage.

“Malabar Young Stars’ [manager] Clint Busby and his wife are doing yeoman service in the D’Abadie/O’Meara constituency and also in the Arima Borough,” Morris-Julian said. “This is very disappointing. We must support our young people and we must support our sport teams and local teams. I really don’t understand what took place and I’ll be looking forward to a report on the incident.”

Jordan too was visibly upset.

“With our tournament trying to reach out to communities around the country,” he said. “This was Arima’s chance to shine. Two teams playing at home and, unfortunately, it’s a very sad moment in football.”

By the time Jordan’s meeting with Samuel’s officiating team and the coaching personnel ended, the decision had been made to abandon the game. However, going forward, Jordan is uncertain with regards to the next step and he says he and the tournament’s organising committee will have to come to a decision soon.

He did state, though, that the NLCL U-19 Community Cup is running on a very tight schedule and at this juncture he’s not overly optimistic about the game being rescheduled. There will also be no more games at the Arima Velodrome.

Citing his disappointment with the police’s intervention, Williams himself, (not to be mistaken with former acting commissioner of police Stephen Williams), noted that he’s also uncertain about the steps to be taken from here.

“For me personally, I don’t have an opinion on if they should award the points to anybody. I don’t even know what to think about it,” said Williams, who admitted that his team started in a lackadaisical fashion—going behind after just 40 seconds, thanks to a rasping effort from outside the area by Malabar midfielder Jadon Durity.

“It would be very unfair to Malabar if we were to play over the game because the game is incomplete. Also, it is very weird to come out and warm up here for 25 minutes and play eight minutes or ten minutes of a game. It’s kinda up in the air…

“I think it’s very distasteful […] the police could be a bit smarter in their choices and what they deem to be doing the correct thing,” Williams continued. “The police officer could’ve stayed outside and let the linesman call the referee, come to the side and talk and then say, ‘well, the game has to come to end’. Then the referee could have blown off the game.

“But he decided to walk on the field which would look a way. It’s a bit much but that’s how the cookie crumbles today.”

Williams said Soccer Made Simple will concede the result without playing the final seven minutes of the affair, which means Malabar should officially claim the three points before the end of the weekend.

Malabar now lead SMS on goal difference in Group A. But things are only just starting, one suspects, to warm up.

Soccer Made Simple wins $7,000 Next Level U-19 Cup
T&T Guardian

Soccer Made Simple FC of Arouca/Trincity captured the winner’s prize of $7,000 when they spanked Palo Seco’s Cox Football Academy 4-1 for the title when the curtain fell on the Next Level Consulting Limited Under-19 Community Cup at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva on Monday.

Simple was led by the talismanic striker, Terron Miller scoring two goals, for his 16th and 17th of the season, and Jaheim Patrick and Micah Nelson contributed one goal a piece. The lone Cox Football Academy goal was scored by Mordecai Brown.

Despite the loss, Cox Football Academy did not leave empty-handed as they collected $5,500 for the second spot while Cantaro United FC of Santa Cruz collected the third-place prize of $2,500 after getting the better of Eagles FC of Scarborough, Tobago 2-1 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 score at the end of regulation time.

In the first game, the third-place matchup between Cantaro United F.C. and Eagles F.C. of Scarborough, Tobago, penalty kicks were needed to decide the exciting game. After end to end action, the match ended 2-2 on a wet and slippery surface. Both Cantaro United’s goals during regulation time were scored by Nathaniel Perouse. While Jabari Alexander and Keanu Boatswain scored for the Tobagonian group winners.

Cantaro United eventually won the riveting penalty shootout 3-2, after a tough display from the penalty spot by both teams. Both NLCL games were broadcast live on Flow Sports channel, Flow Sports app and Youtube.

Last weekend at the same venue, the hotly contested second semi-final between Cox Football Academy and Cantaro United FC which ended 3-1 in the former favour was marred by the issuance of five red cards.

Following the game, the issue was referred to the T&T Football Association (TTFA) Special Disciplinary Committee, which ruled out any further participation of the five red-carded players.

Additionally, the Special Disciplinary Committee also fined both teams a substantial amount for not maintaining disciplinary control of their respective teams.

In the first semifinal, Soccer Made Simple FC also defeated Eagles FC 3-1 with a very clinical and disciplined performance.

Brian Jordan, Tournament Chairman said following the final, “On behalf of the NLCL U19 Community Cup organizing committee, congratulations to our well deserved new champions, Soccer Made Simple F.C. We hope to have them defend their title when the tournament resumes in December in its normally scheduled timeframe.”

He added, “As a business owner and a coach, it feels so good to know we have given these young men an opportunity to showcase their abilities locally and internationally with both games shown live on Flow Sports. The organizing committee of Sandra Pompey, Germaine Jordan and myself would like to thank all fans, and supporters, and will try our best to ensure we return with an even better tournament in December.”

Jordan also extended thanks to its stakeholders, including our sponsors, teams, match officials and loyal fans for continuing to be extremely supportive as we get our youngsters an opportunity to showcase their skills and unlimited potential. Specifically, the committee wishes to thank Next Level Consulting Limited, the Ministry of Sports and Community Development, National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago, Complete Distributors Limited, National Lotteries Control Board, SOCO Restaurant (NYC), Southern Supplies Limited and Ramsingh’s Sports World for their kind and generous support.

NLCL U19 Champs ‘Cruz’ to victory on opening day
By David Scarlett (T&T Newsday)

THE second edition of the Next Level Consulting Limited (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup is now underway after its official launch on Sunday.

In August 2022, the first edition concluded with east-based outfit Soccer Made Simple Football Club being crowned champions after a 4-1 drubbing against Cox Football Academy.

At the launch, tournament chairman Brian Jordan addressed the media and the participating teams saying, “This tournament provides a platform for young players to develop into the next great player that they know they can become – which (not coincidentally) is why it’s called the Next Level (Community Cup).”

He also stated in a prior press release, “We are extremely happy to get these youngsters back on the football field directly following an exciting World Cup.” He added, “Our mission is to give as many young footballers the opportunity to play more football after the completion of the Secondary Schools Football League, and to assist them in developing to their fullest potential.”

“The organisation is extremely grateful to volunteers, supporters and sponsors, Next Level Consulting Limited, Ministry of Sport and Community Development, National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago, Massy Foundation, Tang (distributed by A.S. Brydens & Sons), and Ramsingh’s Sports World.”

“We thank all of our sponsors and the media. We are trying to form a good partnership with everyone involved, and we are going to pay homepage to all of our stakeholders by having an excellent tournament.”

Defending champions Soccer Made Simple began their campaign strongly with a commanding 3-0 win over Santa Cruz United at the Brian Lara Recreational Ground, Cantaro on Monday.

“SMS”, as they are fondly known, dominated their hosts in what was initially perceived to be a difficult away fixture. They will return to action in their community against World Class Soccer Clinic at Bon Air Recreation Ground on Thursday to build on their solid start in their title defence.

In an eastern derby, World Class Soccer Clinic travelled to Eddie Hart Recreational Ground to defeat Trendsetter Hawks 3-1 in their opening fixture on Monday evening. Not far away, Malabar Young Stars edged T&T Maestros 1-0 at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) O’Meara Campus Ground.

In central, W Connection and Moruga Football Club played to a thrilling 3-3 draw at Edinburgh 500 Recreation Ground while Gasparillo Youths held Made In La Brea Football Academy to a goal-less stalemate at Lumsden Recreation Ground in the south land. Along with SMS’s clash with World Class Soccer Clinic, Matchday Two involves Trendsetter Hawks vs Malabar Young Stars (Eddie Hart Recreation Ground), T&T Maestros vs Santa Cruz United (St George’s Ground, Barataria), Made In La Brea vs Moruga FC (Brighton Recreation Ground) and Point Fortin Youth Football Academy vs W Connection (Edinburgh 500 Recreation Ground). All matches kick off at 6pm on December 22.

Soccer Made Simple hit Hawks for six in NLCL U-19 Cup
By David Scarlett (T&T Newsday)

MATCH DAY Four of the Next Level Consulting Limited (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup concluded on Thursday evening as the competing teams ushered in the new year in entertaining, goal-scoring fashion. The round was highlighted by Group A leaders and defending champions, Soccer Made Simple, who hammered their east-based rivals, Trendsetter Hawks, 6-1 at the Eddie Hart Ground in Tacarigua.

Commonly knows as SMS, the champions continued their strong start to the campaign, now winning three games from four – the only points dropped were in a 0-0 draw against Malabar Young Stars, who are both unbeaten so far in Group A.

Philip Tinto opened the scoring for SMS and was then followed by Micah Nelson. Jeremiah Frank-Williams netted a pair before Israel Joseph and Larry Noel completed the scoring for coach Lester Young’s team.

Jusiah Issac scored the lone item for the Hawks as they slumped to their third defeat of the tournament.

After the game, Young boldly stated that his team’s target is to defend their title, especially since they know that other teams are yearning to dethrone them.

Elsewhere, at the St George’s Ground in Barataria, World Class Soccer Clinic bounced back from their 4-1 loss against SMS on Tuesday to maul TT Maestros 5-2. The other Group A game between hosts Santa Cruz United and Malabar Young Stars was abandoned due to inadequate ground preparation. As a result, Malabar were awarded a 3-0 win as well as three points by default.

In Group B, frontrunners W Connection had to dig deep to claim three points away from home against Gasparillo Youths at Lumsden Recreation Ground. Connection won 2-1 to ensure their stay at top of the group.

In the battle of South-based teams, Moruga FC and Point Fortin Youth Football Academy played to a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Yolande Pompey Recreation Ground in Princes Town while Made In La Brea drew 0-0 for the third time this season, this time against Cunupia FC.

SMS lead Group A with 10 points as World Class Soccer Clinic are on nine points in second place. Malabar Young Stars sit in third with eight points, TT Maestros are fourth with six points, Trendsetter Hawks have one point in fifth place and Santa Cruz United have yet to earn a point as they remain planted at the bottom of the group.

Connection are, so far, runaway leaders of Group B, standing high at the summit with 10 points. Made In La Brea are second – only by goal-difference – boasting six points and a goal-difference of +3. Moruga FC also have six points, but they sit in third as their goal-difference is +1.

Gasparillo Youths and Point Fortin Youth Football Academy are also separated by goal-difference with both locked on four points each. However the former stands above the latter in fourth with +1 goal-difference while Point Fortin have a goal-difference of -4 and they stand in fifth. Cunupia FC occupy the foot of the table with one point on the board so far.

The Tobago leg of the NLCL Under-19 Community Cup will begin with a double-header at the Cyd Gray Regional Complex on Sunday 8 as champions, Eagles Football Club, seek to kickstart their title defence with a meeting against Roxborough Lakers at 1.30 pm. Following that fixture, Georgia Football Club will face Ball Blasters Football Academy at 3.30 pm.

The top three teams from Group A and Group B, along with the top two teams from Tobago's Group C, will advance to the quarterfinals.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

By David Scarlett (T&T Newsday)

MATCH DAY Four of the Next Level Consulting Limited (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup concluded on Thursday evening as the competing teams ushered in the new year in entertaining, goal-scoring fashion. The round was highlighted by Group A leaders and defending champions, Soccer Made Simple, who hammered their east-based rivals, Trendsetter Hawks, 6-1 at the Eddie Hart Ground in Tacarigua.

...

That is an eye-catching score, especially in a sentence involving Trendsetter Hawks.

Roxborough clip Eagles’ wings in NLCL U-19 Tobago opener
By David Scarlett (T&T Newsday)

THE Tobago group of the Next Level Consulting Limited (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup kicked off in dramatic fashion on Sunday as Roxborough Lakers upset the current champions of Tobago, Eagles Football Club, 1-0 at the Cyd Gray Regional Complex, Roxborough.

The match was the first of a double-header header as fans and stakeholders got their first look of the competition’s talent in Tobago. Roxborough opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Tyrell Moore headed the ball into the back of the net via a floated delivery from a free-kick on the right flank.

In the subsequent fixture, Ball Blasters Football Academy thumped Georgia Football Club 4-1. Orlando James proved why his club is named Ball Blasters as he rifled a shot from distance which nestled at the bottom left corner of the goal in the 33rd minute.

The team from Bethel doubled their lead seven minutes later when Delandre Eastman pounced onto a rebounded shot off the Georgia goalkeeper, and he coolly tapped the ball into an empty net.

Georgia pulled a goal back just two minutes after the break through Derrel Fletcher. However, Kyle Jean restored ‘Blasters’ two-goal lead in the 55th minute before Malik Wilson netted their fourth goal to effectively claim three points for his team.

After one match played, Ball Blasters lead Group C – the Tobago group – with three points and a goal-difference of +3 above Roxborough Lakers, who are also on three points but they have a goal-difference of +1. Eagles and Georgia are both without a point.

In Trinidad, the competition reached its halfway point as the teams in each group completed their matches against each of the sides in their respective groups, after five fixtures.

Group A leaders, Soccer Made Simple – who battered Trendsetter Hawks 6-1 last week – netted another six goals and kept a clean sheet, this time, against TT Maestros. Santa Cruz United, having lost 3-0 on default due to inadequate ground preparation in the previous match, recovered strongly to edge the Hawks 2-1 at Montague Recreation Ground in Trincity. In the other game of the group, World Class Soccer Clinic comfortably beat Malabar Young Stars 3-0.

In Group B, W Connection continued their stay at the top following a slender 1-0 victory against Made In La Brea at Edinburgh 500 Recreation Ground. Moruga FC jumped to second despite claiming only a point from a 1-1 draw away to strugglers Cunupia FC.

At Lumsden Recreation Ground, Gasparillo Youths suffered their third loss of the campaign against Point Fortin Youth Football Academy, by a 1-0 margin. The hosts had a fair string of chances, but weren’t clinical enough in the attacking third to get on the scoresheet.

The action returns on Thursday as Soccer Made Simple take on Santa Cruz United at Bon Air Recreation Ground (6.30 pm), World Class Soccer Clinic host Trendsetter Hawks at the Prime Minister’s Ground, Arouca (6 pm) while TT Maestros face Malabar Young Stars at St George’s Ground, Barataria (6 pm).

In the south, Moruga FC welcome W Connection to the Marac Recreation Ground, Made In La Brea battle Gasparillo Youths at Brighton Recreation Ground, and Point Fortin Youth Football Academy will play Cunupia FC at Mahaica Oval. All matches in the south zone will kick off at 6 pm.

Tobago joins the fray once more, hosting another double-header: Roxborough Lakers will be up against Georgia FC (5 pm), which will be followed by Match Day One’s big winners Ball Blasters Football Academy versus the wounded defending champions Eagles FC (7 pm). Both matches will be played at the Moriah Recreation Ground.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Malabar Young Stars, Georgia FC win in NLCL U-19 Cup.
T&T Newsday Reports.

Malabar Young Stars bounced back from a 3-0 loss last matchday to edged T&T Maestros 2-1 on Thursday at St George’s Ground, Barataria, as action continued on the sixth matchday of the Next Level Consulting Ltd (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup.

Going into the round with eight points in third place – four points behind second-placed World Class Soccer Clinic in Group A – the Young Stars were determined to close the gap and keep their qualification hopes alive with five more matches in the group stage to play.

The top three teams from the two Trinidad groups (Group A and Group B) along with the top two from the Tobago group (Group C) will advance to the competition’s quarterfinal stage.

Malabar have been on rollercoaster form during this campaign – winning two games, drawing one game and losing two. However the tides turned in their favour for their away battle against T&T Maestros, who sat just below them with two less points.

The T&T Maestros themselves were languishing in the middle of the group after being battered 6-0 by Soccer Made Simple in their previous fixture.

The match proved to be a close and intense battle, but goals from Jashawn Thomas and Anthony Wells got the job done for Malabar.

In the other Group A fixtures, Soccer Made Simple schooled Santa Cruz United for the second time this season, mauling them 5-1 at the Bon Air Recreation Ground while World Class Soccer Clinic were held to a 1-1 draw by Trendsetter Hawks.

After six matches, Soccer Made Simple still lead Group A with 16 points. World Class SC’s draw means that they are three points behind ‘SMS’ with 13 points and two points above Malabar Young Stars, who stand with 11 points in third place.

T&T Maestros (six points), Santa Cruz United (three points) and Trendsetter Hawks (two points) occupy the other three spots.

In Group B, W Connection continued their charge towards a comfortable qualification as they dismantled Moruga Football Club in Moruga. Made In La Brea got just their second win of the campaign with a 2-0 victory against Gasparillo Youths at Brighton Recreation Ground, having played to three 0-0 results in their previous five matches. Cunupia FC closed off the group’s fixtures with a much-needed 1-0 win away to Point Fortin Youth Football Academy.

W Connection (16 points) lead Group B, followed by Made In La Brea (nine points), Moruga FC (seven points, -1 goal-differential), Point Fortin YFA (seven points, -4 goal-differential), Cunupia FC (five points) and Gasparillo Youths (four points).

Tobago champions Eagles FC bounced back from their shock defeat on matchday one to beat Ball Blasters Football Academy 2-0 at the Moriah Recreation Ground. Following that fixture, Georgia FC skimmed past Roxborough Lakers 1-0 at the same venue. After two matches played, all teams stand on three points in Group C.

Action resumes on Saturday as World Class Soccer Clinic face Soccer Made Simple in an important top-of-the-table affair in Group A at Prime Minister’s Ground, Arouca; Malabar Young Stars battle Trendsetter Hawks at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) O’Meara Ground; and Santa Cruz United welcome T&T Maestros at Mount St Benedict Ground. All Group A fixtures will kick off at 4pm.

Group B’s fixtures include a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium as Gasparillo Youths play Cunupia in the first game at 2pm and Moruga challenge Made In La Brea at 4pm. Leaders W Connection will host Point Fortin YFA at Edinburgh 500 Recreation Ground at 4pm.

Tobago will also have a double-header for their third matchday at Plymouth Recreation Ground. Roxborough Lakers will seek to repeat their opening-day victory against Eagles at 2pm, which will be followed by Ball Blasters vs Georgia at 4pm.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
