UTT Basketball Coach off to New York Knicks

On Monday 30th September, The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT's) Basketball Coach, Stefan "Star" Dillon, left the shores of Trinidad and Tobago en route to New York, USA to join the New York Knicks NBA Basketball team's pre-season preparation and training camp.

This special invitation to be part the New York Knicks training camp was extended by their team trainer, Mr. Roger Hinds and by extension Knicks General Manager, Mr. Scott Perry. The invitation came after fruitful discussions with Mr. Albert Lee Young, Mr. Dillon's former coach and current mentor in sport.

The camp is expected to run from October 1st - 6thand will feature the Knicks' team preparation for the 2019 - 2020 NBA regular season which is scheduled to begin on October 22nd, 2019.

This camp will involve the likes of current and upcoming NBA stars such as Dennis Smith Jr., Julius Randle, and R.J Barrett. R.J Barrett was a standout student-athlete at Duke University and the third overall pick in this year's NBA draft.

Stefan is expected to interact and learn from the likes of New York Knicks Head Coach David Fizdale and Assistant Coaches Keith Smart and Kaleb Canales. Also on Dillon's radar is the real possibility of meeting and engaging past NBA great Allan Houston who is now the Special Assistant to General Manager Scott Perry.

Stefan was extremely delighted to be specially selected to be among such a great NBA franchise and had this to say:

"I'm extremely grateful for this rare opportunity to be amongst athletes that are considered the best in the world. It will be great to see the elites in their element and to observe hands-on how advanced the sport is in the U.S. With the information garnered I will be able to apply the knowledge and practices to the HP programme here at UTT with hope that it will spark a new direction in which we see basketball locally."

The Sport & Recreation Unit is very thrilled when our coaches are given these opportunities and exposure to such world class modern training academies. We are sure that such opportunities can only redound to the benefit of the Sport Programme here at UTT and by extension Trinidad and Tobago. The department looks forward to Stefan's return and his implementation of new and advanced training techniques as we look towards building our new and advanced UTT Basketball Academy.

Join us in congratulating Mr. Dillon on this achievement. Best wishes to him in his further endeavours.
