I know that welcome home celebration / motorcade was held on 8-13-2012 for Keshorn Walcott's gold medal.  There were also some events for Walcott's return in Sept. 2016 from the Rio Olympics.

I believe there was a big event for Hasely Crawford in 1976.  Would someone know the date of that?

I know there were celebrations for Bolden but have no information on when they occurred.

Did any of the others get motorcades or big receptions?

I'd appreciate any info folks might have to offer.  I'll be throwing similar questions on other boards related to those sports.

Leslie King won Gold in cycling in  1971 PanAm games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycling_at_the_1971_Pan_American_Games
Stanley Bailey won Bronze in weightlifting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weightlifting_at_the_1971_Pan_American_Games
Edwin Roberts Bronze in 200. 4x400 won Bronze: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_1971_Pan_American_Games

I remember some celebration for Crawfie. I did not attend any event or parade. But people were celebrating the first Gold medalist.

How big a nationwide sports celebration you expect for winning a Pan American Games medal?

Some other smaller Caribbean nations have had full welcome home events for gold medal winners at the Pan Am Games and the Commonwealth Games.   eg. Shaune and Brett Fraser  (British Virgin Islands), Levern Spencer (St. Lucia).  In the Castro era, Cuba would usually honor all their Pan Am Games winners at one big event as well.

Of course, I realize that other nations don't get too excited about these competitions.  I am just trying to get a good list of events that occurred so I can research them further.

Smaller nations with lower standards. I am sure countries like Jamaica and Cuba do not go all out nationwide celebration if one of their athletes win a medal at the Pan American Championships.

T&T need to make a decision as to what is our standard. Because the older heads seem very comfortable to accept the defeated notion that we Caribbean great, just Pan Am good and may get Olympic lucky.. and that is reflected in our sports culture

I don't have a list for you but hopefully someone may help you with a Caribbean celebration list

The problem is other sports has the same issues like football, funding. It has always been so. Everybody expects government to fund sports. They have no expectations from the private sector. So what do we expect. I tell people when a TT athlete win an Olympic medal, that is like making bread out of stone. Until the private sector complements the govt funding with substantial donations, we will be saying the same things for the next 10 yrs, and on, and on, etc.
