Oh geed-what ah shitty squad. Rooney and Lennon the only two quality offensive players. All the others predictable and one demensional. Defense suspect except for Cole. England have plenty of licks to get!

Heskey made it b/c of his style of play... he holds the ball up very well and creates opportunities for others.  He won't start but will help create space for players like Bent and Rooney.  Zamora's call up was always going to be a longshot... hardluck dey fella, especially with that Achilles "injury" (ah guess yuh could stop faking now) it woulda take real confidence in Capello to include yuh at this point.

I am disappointed Carlton Cole didn't make it  :-[  Then again I can't say he really deserved it after his poor return when returning from injury.  Anyway I'm guessing Zamora was called but turned it down as he wanted represent T&T

Gabriel Agbonlahor should be there instead of Hesky.

Carlton Cole and Cameron Jerome deserve a chance too.

I aint to sure about Michael Carrick and Theo Walcott either. Carrick dip in form and Walcott don't have a football brain.

Ah like David Bentley, Stewart Downing, Jermaine Jenas.

Agbonlahor not fighting for Heskey spot, he fighting up with the small forwards and them..

If Capello picking on form like he say he was, Zamora should be there in front Heskey and Cole who both did nothing at all this season to merit inclusion.. Heskey scrubbbing bench and Cole eh say nothing since coming back from injury.. Zamora carry his side to the Europa final. But I guess Heskey works for the system Capello wants to play because Rooney does play off him.

Adam Johnson is a good pick for the left side.. Sorry not to see Joe Cole there but to be fair he eh looking nothing like the old Joe Cole since coming back from injury.

Bridge is ah imps.

edit: like i blind, now see Joe Cole make it..  :beermug:

It seems like Bobby would have been in the provisional squad. Check out Capello's comments at 2:43. Ah wonder who took his place?

Man only on shit Capello wanted to give BZ a look.

"Zamora was a really important player but we spoke with him and he has a big problem with his Achilles," Capello added. "He said he can't play because he can't train every day."

Came down to him and Bent for the fifth striker... Rooney, Crouch, Heskey and Defoe were guaranteed.  Hard to argue with it... Crouch produce the least among all of them but given the English style of play he gives them a great deal more versatility than Zamora.  Say what you want of him but the man's deadly inside the opposition box... especially on headers, and it has little to do with his height and more about how he uses his height, technique ability to get to the ball.  We could say he does foul all we want... but unless the refs call it he's a good weapon.

Capello made no bones about the fact that he was placing a premium on fitness, Barry was sure to make that squad until the weekend.  Rooney, you HAVE to make an exception for him... for good or bad, he's the best thing in an England uniform right now.

How ironic that the same injury many people think he was faking against T&T is what keep him out of the England World Cup squad. hardluck Zamora you may still be young enough for T&T next time around dunno bout England though.

Yuh know, there's not ONE player from the lower leagues on that roster, and rightfully so! unlike certain coaches in the western hemisphare! :whistling:

maybe our coaches could learn something from this precedent. capello and dunga used all top notch players, so why our coaches does use man from the conference league over man who playing top flight football?  our coaches need tuh take stock yes.

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora admits World Cup heartache.
BBC Sport.

Zamora played through the pain barrier in the Europa League final
Bobby Zamora has described the Achilles tendon injury that has ended his World Cup dreams as "a kick in the teeth".

England manager Fabio Capello was set to include the 29-year-old Fulham striker in the provisional 30-man squad he named for this summer's finals.

But despite starting Wednesday's Europa League final, in which the Cottagers were beaten 2-1 by Atletico Madrid, Zamora faces surgery.

"I knew I wouldn't have done myself or England justice had I gone," he said.

"It was a joint decision between myself, Capello, Fulham's medical team and England's medical team. The World Cup is a massive tournament. It's not about myself, it's about England.

"Capello wished me all the best, hoped that I get fit and would be available next season. It's one of those things, it has come at a bad time and the last five weeks have been terrible for me.

"It's been an up and down season because it's been so good on the pitch and I've scored some important goals. To now pick up this injury has kicked me in the teeth. It's come during the last couple of weeks and when there was the possibility of going to the World Cup with England.

"That's football, it's a cruel game."

England already have fitness concerns surrounding former skipper John Terry (foot) and Gareth Barry (ankle), while Wayne Rooney, Aaron Lennon, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Glen Johnson have all suffered problems in the latter stages of the season.

And Zamora was not willing to add to Capello's injury headaches.

The Cottagers forward was clearly off the pace in the heart-breaking 2-1 extra-time defeat to Atletico Madrid in Hamburg before he was substituted on 55 minutes.

"I was struggling but I was desperate to play," he added. "It was touch and go for me to make the final but it's a major tournament and I've worked all season to get there so I wanted to play some part.

"I'm going to weigh everything up with the medical team now but it looks like I might need a minor operation.

"The decision will be made over the next day or two but the operation is pencilled in for a week's time."
