Letter to the Trinidad Guardian
The Persian Gulf
Its waters sparkling
Today, with pearls
Of ripples dancing
Dancing for the Warriors,
Where victory shone
Like Grecian shields
In the Manama sunshine
One spear headed
Into the open—jaws
Of the goal
With jubilation infesting
The eager crowd,
And purple sunshine
Bathing the grounds
Down here in Frederick Street,
A sea of red surged,
With fans honking,
Their happy hearts
And waving the “red, white and black”
For a victory
Well-wrought and earned
Now, unto Germany
For world battle
Sharpen your spears
And tighten your armour,
To meet the Troy
Of your destiny
We have faith
And hope in you,
To level the battlefield
To bring joy and glory
To our sports-loving
Trinidad and Tobago
