Since the game against Man City, when Samuel was partly to blame for the first goal and was substituted at half time, I dont think he has played for the first team. He certainly hasn't started a first team match since then. There is also talk about him being tranferred to Charlton Athletic, so the manager is probably getting use to life without him.

Dis is not sudden. He has only made 8 league appearances (out of a possible 18)  this season and of those, he has only played 3 full games. In de other 5 games, he was substituted before or at half time. His last game was Oct 31st.

That was the game that hurt him the most....but he was fringe even then, in and out the side. You say partly to blame and though I agree, the press didn't! Both the papers and Sky pundits put the blame squarely on his shoulders.  He really get some stick then. Also I clearly remember O'Leary (though I don't think he named an individual) putting the error down to an individual mistake.

He just might as Coventry's current starting strikers have really gone 'off the boil' at the moment. Also 4 games in 8 days not easy so he might get a start based on fatigue alone.

From the following quotes, it seems as though he had a good game:

Report 1
Saints almost scrambled into the lead two minutes later when an acrobatic hook by Jones was almost turned in by first Ormerod and then Delap in front of goal but Kenny got his big frame in the way.

Mills got in a fantastic block to deny Shipperley as he turned onto a Webber cross six yards out and then Jones let fly from 25 yards but saw the ball flash wide of the right post.

Blackstock replaced Belmadi on 73 minutes with Walcott switching to left wing. almost immediately Jones made a powerful run down the left and blasted just wide of the near post.

Jones was looking strong and lively and he put over a dangerous cross from the right on 76 minutes. Blackstock hurled himself headlong and got a glancing touch with his head but not quite enough to turn it in.

Report 2
It was an incisive touch which Saints lacked. They had plenty of possession but only really troubled Paddy Kenny once.
That was on 29 minutes when Brett Ormerod and Rory Delap both almost turned in from close range from a Kenwyne Jones hook. But the keeper got his large frame in the way for his only serious save of the match.

The rest of the efforts saw a series of shots fly wide, mainly from long range. Quashie, Belmadi and the lively Jones all narrowly missed the target from just outside the box.

Jones blasted wide of the near post as he cut in from the left and then crossed for Dexter Blackstock to glance a header across goal and wide late on.

Jones put himself about well up front and Dyer was a livewire threat in the first half before the stain of two games in three days took its toll on such young legs.

Dyer chipped forward for Jones who found Belmadi in space to the left of goal. He reached the byline but the angled cross-shot was deflected behind and the corner flashed across the face of goal.
