#10 - Jerrel BrittoTrinidad and Tobago's Men's Under 20 team proved to be too much for St Vincent and the Grenadines as the visitors came away comfortable 8-0 winners in their Caribbean Football Union Under 20 qualifying match at Victoria Park on Friday night.

Jerrel Britto opened the scoring on 21st minute and T&T quickly took further control with goals coming from captain Sheldon Bateau in the 31st, Marcus Joseph in the 39th and Johan Peltier in the 42nd.

T&T continued their dominance in the second half with substitute Shahdon Winchester grabbing a double in the 55th and 64th before there was an own goal from a Britto cross in the 51st.

The Jabloteh striker got T&T's eighth item of the match in the 72nd. Both teams will meet again in the return leg at the Marvin Lee Stadium on November 24th.

Head coach Zoran Vranes described the victory as "a nice one to witness from the bench".

"It was a win for us to start the campaign. We played a good first half and got four goals and we scored another four in the second half. But more importantly I was very satisfied with the way the players went about in  getting the win.

They were very professional and very disciplined. Even when we were ahead by three or four goals, they continued to play the game very well and kept the pressure on which I was happy to see," Vranes told TTFF Media after the match.

"For me whether we won 3-0 or 7-0, the important part was for us to maintain the pressure and not to let the opponent settle and play.

Of course we have to do this some more, especially against the tougher opponents. We will take it step by step but of course tonight they showed that they are taking things on board and are hungry for the victory.

This is the kind of attitude I want from the players in every match. Sometimes we will score many goals and some other games we may not get that many but the key is to play to our best ability no matter who the opponent is," Vranes added.

T&T are attempting to qualify for the Concacaf Final round of qualification in Guatemala next April towards the 2011 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Colombia.

Britto wears ‘lucky boots’

San Juan Jabloteh striker Jerrel “Britts” Britto wore his favourite scoring boots on Friday night as he turned on the heat with a hat-trick to lead T&T’s Under-20 team to an 8-0 demolition of St Vincent and the Grenadines at Victoria Park in the Caribbean Football Union home and away qualifying two-match series.

The ex-national Under-17 striker, having just recently signed a boot deal with Concave footwear, tormented the Vincentian defence all night.

He put T&T ahead in the 21st minute after collecting a knockdown from a corner and then throwing his body behind the oncoming ball to force it over the goal line.

Britto then added another in the 51st when his effort was deflected home and the referee credited the goal to him. His third item came in the 72nd minute when he ran onto a cross from Dinell Lopez and fired home.

The other goals came in the 31st minute from captain Sheldon Bateau, Marcus Joseph in the 39th and Johan Peltier in the 42nd.

W Connection striker Shahdon Winchester came off the bench at half time to notch a double in the 55th and 64th. “From the beginning we were in full control,” said Britto. “We hit the post in the first minute and we built from there and played as a unit for the entire match...

I was focused on scoring. “This is actually my fifth hat-trick for a national team and I felt really good that it came at this time to start off our Under-20 World Cup campaign.” Britto said the hat-trick performance is a definite confidence booster.

“I haven’t been scoring much for club or country so this is a good boost for me and I’m hoping to continue on this run.” T&T, which will host the return-leg match on Wednesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, needs only to draw the match to advance to the final playoff round.

Guatemala, Canada, USA and Mexico were automatic qualifiers for the final round from April 3–17 next year while Central America will also qualify three other teams for the 12-nation tournament.

The final round will qualify four teams to next year’s Under-20 World Cup in Colombia July 29-August 20. Speaking after the match, Vranes described the victory as “a nice one to witness from the bench.

“It was a win for us to start the campaign. We played a good first-half and got four goals and we scored another four in the second-half.

“But more importantly I was very satisfied with the way the players went about getting the win. “They were very professional and very disciplined. Even when we were ahead by three or four goals, they continued to play the game very well and kept the pressure on, which I was happy to see,” Vranes said.
