Dream Team stormed into the semi-finals of the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League last weekend with a 6-1 hammering of North Oropouche at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground. The 2013 winners were expected to be tested in what was billed as a tricky encounter but instead hit their opponents for six.

The game was over at halftime with forward Patrick Parris notching a brace while Jameel Sempel got the other for a 3-0 scoreline. Sempel notched another in the second half while Carlon Nichols and Travis Alexander also got on the scoresheet for Dream Team. Gerard Francis got a consolation for North Oropouche who were expected to put up a better fight after finishing a surprising fourth in earlier league play.

Also last weekend, G Madrid defeated Gremio 4-2 in a repeat and result of last year’s final to book their place in the last four.

G Madrid’s Maurice Billy headed his team in front in the first half while Kerin James and Jarren Stephen added one each for a 3-0 cushion inside the first period.

Aleandro Jones pulled one back on the stroke of halftime but it was still a mountain to climb for Gremio in the second half. Billy ended all hopes of a comeback with his second item of the game while Ashki Charles’ free-kick to reduce the deficit failed to affect the final outcome.

Meanwhile today, Boys Town and Manzanilla will battle in a playoff for the final spot in the ‘Big 8’ competition. On Saturday, Coca All-Stars meet Take That and Cool It in a quarterfinal match-up at 3.45pm. On Sunday, table toppers Dragon FC take on the winner of today’s clash between Boys Town and Manzanil.
