Smarting from an odd draw last weekend, league leader WASA FC maintained its positions with a 2-1 win over 1976 FC Phoenix, in its visit to the sister isle in the blink/bmobile National Super League Match Day 16 feature match, yesterday.

Glen Walker scored with 10 minutes remaining to seal the victory after the two teams seemed to be heading for another stalemate.

WASA, too, opened the scoring with a minute left in the first half when Dillon Peterson found the back of the net, but Pheonix got back into the match when Dominique Kerr found another goal for the Tobago team in the 71st minute.

It was an crucial result for the “Waterboys” who could not afford to lose ground, with second-place and defending champions bmobile and Westside Superstarz, which sits third, both sealing big wins.

The champions Joe Public, eased to a 5-2 victory over newly-promoted strugglers Biche United, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. Five different players, Keston Bibby-Cummings, Sheldon Nesbitt, Keano Goodridge, Andre Toussaint and Jamel Lewis found the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Westside Superstarz, which is in the process of completing one of its finest seasons, also bagged a handful with a 5-1 win over Eagles United, at home.

The win meant that Westside stays three points behind the leaders, WASA, with a match in hand. The Westmoorings-based club will play the rescheduled Round One fixture versus  third-from-bottom Real Maracas, at St Anthony’s College Ground, from 3.45 pm.
