Teenaged sensation Shackiel Henry scored his third goal in as many matches and his second straight in time added on to lead newly promoted Petrotrin Palo Seco to the top of the TTFA National SUper League (NSL) standings following the club’s 3-2 win over previous leader WASA FC.

Palo Seco hosted WASA at the Palo Seco Velodrome, where the Southern Football Association champions almost conceded its first loss, but for a late equalising goal from former Pro League striker Sylvester Teesdale and Henry’s winner in the dying moments.

Darren Alexis opened the scoring for the new league leader in the 12th minute, before his effort was cancelled out by Kareem Freitas on the half-hour mark.

Then, on the stroke of half time, Cleveland Cambridge gave WASA the lead.

In other results, 1976 FC Phoenix was one of four teams to kick start their campaigns and the only one to secure an opening win.

The club defeated Stokely Vale 2-1 in a Tobago derby, while Coosal’s Las Lomas suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Santa Rosa. D’Lime Bar Goal City and Malabar FC also started their league challenge with a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, last season’s runner-up Club Sando returned to winning ways following a draw a week prior, with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over rock-bottom Joe Public.

Manuel Rezende scored for Joe Public in the 44th minute, before Nigel Daniel and Nemuel Rivers handed Club Sando the three points with goals in the 73rd and 82nd minutes, respectively.

Club Sando now sits second on seven points, behind Palo Seco on goal difference. Joe Public remains grounded on the foot of the table with its third straight loss.
