“It’s maybe the best thing that could happen to our football right now.”

Those were the words of current T&T captain Densill Theobald as he reacted to Leo Beenhakker’s return as director of football at the T&T Football Association (TTFA).

Theobald played under Benhakker in 2006 and earned much trust from the Dutchman who used him in all three matches at the Germany finals.

“A lot of coaches have pushed me on but Leo Beenhakker played a massive part in me becoming the player I am today.

His faith in me and the way he managed me was second to none and his ability to do this is what brings out the best in players and the team itself. I’m quite excited to work with him again and I believe this is a positive step for us.

“I know the players are looking forward to it and I hope and pray that the local coaches can also follow him and try to learn from him as well. Cooperation will be a key factor for this to happen.

“Let’s hope that we can all benefit,” Theobald added.
