DIRECTV W Connection FC defender Alvin Jones, is looking forward to experiencing international football action soon, despite being left out of the Trinidad and Tobago national team, for the on going 2014 Caribbean Cup Finals in Jamaica.
The “Soca Warriors” quest for their first Caribbean Cup title in 13 years kicks off tonight (6:30 pm Trinidad time) against Curacao.
Jones got his first senior call-up during the tournaments qualification stage that was held at the Ato Bolton Stadium in Couva last month and National Coach Stephen Hart gave him his debut, during the 2-0 victory versus St.Lucia on October 10th.
“My first experience and debut with the national team was good. Everyone made me comfortable, coach Hart was very cool and being able to share a dressing room with established players such as Jonesy (Kenwyne Jones), Hyland (Khaleem) and Boucaud (Andre), was great for a young player like myself”, Jones told wconnectionfc.com.
Quality defenders are a strong point for the “Soca Warriors” currently. In the right-back position, Jones, who was the standout player in that role during the 2013-14 Digicel TT Pro League season, has serious competition from Daneil Cyrus, Justin Hoyte and Aubrey David to be the main right-back, in the eyes of the national coaching staff.
However the attacking minded 20 year full-back, hopes to keep improving when the 2014-15 season resumes later this month and stake his claim for an international recall.
“I’m well aware that they are a lot of good players in my position in the senior team. I tried to do what Hart asked of me last time and the experience was great , so hopefully my performances in the league puts me in a position to wear the red and black colours again.”
