The stage is being set for the sixth edition of WeBeat. Conceptualised by the St James Community Improvement Committee (SJCIC), in commemoration of that burgess’ incorporation into the city of Port-of-Spain, WeBeat is a nine-day cultural festival.

WeBeat 2K6 will be held on June 2–10 at the St James Amphitheatre, Western Main Road, St James.

WeBeat 2K6 is in “Tribute to the Soca Warriors ... We Reach.” This year’s theme could not have been more appropriate, given the country’s participation in the 2006 World Cup.

Honorees, too, have been selected from the sporting community, football to be exact, and recipients will be announced at a media launch scheduled for May.

This year’s programme promises to be even more grand culturally with a balance of entertainment, inclusive of pan and calypso, jazz, cuisine, story-telling, “lime” and social services such as health fairs and history.

The committee is also producing a magazine to document the achievements and impact of St James and St Jamesians.

Members of the WeBeat 2006 Committee, chaired by Earl Crosby, have been meeting regularly to discuss plans for the festival which promises to reclaim St James as the city that never sleeps and makes the event a fixture on the national social calendar.
