Stern JohnAfter scoring the opening goal versus India, “Soca Warriors” striker Stern John praised coach Otto Pfister for instilling a sense of belief in him and encouraging his role as a key player for the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

With the Bermuda game looming, John said, “I’m just looking forward to getting a few more games under my belt and improve in all aspects as my fitness level is around 80 percent. I had a few chances tonight that I should have done better with. It’s just started for me and for the guys. We needed this win and more importantly, a good performance, after not qualifying for the last Gold Cup.”

On his return to playing local football he added, “I know I have my critics but they make me a stronger player. I’m not back here to collect money or to go through the motions. I’m here to help the game develop more but we need the support of the fans out there, especially for the qualifying campaign.”

Pfister boasted that he felt veteran John had around three years left to offer the team and John humbly accepted praises for this 70th goal for the national team.

“We have a good pool of talent to pick from and the local guys did well out there. I’m glad to see we clicked and with the performance we gave, we must note that we still have foreign-based players to come in. It’s good to see that after tonight, we’ve given the coach a headache to pick the team,” said John yesterday.
