A new champion will be crowned today in the Girls’ BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) National InterCol final, when Tobago winner Bishop’s High, takes the trip to South Trinidad, to face favourites Debe Secondary, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, from 3.30 pm.

Debe, which already took the South Zone league title, the Big-Four competition and the Trinidad InterCol title, in yet another successful season, will be aiming for a whitewash of trophies against the Tobago’s underdogs.

The fixture comes just over a week after the two teams met in the Big-Four final, which Debe won by an emphatic 4-1 scoreline. None other than top national junior forward Kayla Taylor was on target with a splendid hat-trick to lead her team to victory.

More recently, Taylor bagged a brace to secure Debe the Trinidad InterCol title, on Monday, with a 2-0 victory over St Augustine Secondary.

Bishop’s, meanwhile, defied the odds after claiming the Tobago title with a 3-2 win over Scarborough Secondary, for the first time in the school’s history. It will be another first for the girls clad in maroon and white if they manage to secure the National title, the most prestigious in local schools’ football.

Bishop’s won the Tobago InterCol title, compliments of a double from captain Kristen Julien and a late strike from April Ewing.
