Roxborough Secondary beat Signal Hill Secondary 3-0 yesterday, to eliminate any chance the defending champion may have had of retaining its title in the Tobago Zone of the Girls Secondary Schools Football League.
Njemie Charles was largely responsible for Roxborough’s victory, as she netted two of her team’s three goals, while Shanice George scored the other to put the match out of Signal Hill’s reach.
Roxborough remains unbeaten with a maximum 12 points, while Scarborough Secondary, maintained their second spot with a 4-0 whipping of Bishop’s High. Sharee Guerra, Jeanine Lawrence, Shauntel Thompson and Kristy-Ann Roberts were on target for Scarborough, which continues to trail Roxborough by three points.
Scarborough is the only team standing in the way of Roxborough and the two meet on Sunday, where Roxborough will again have its home advantage. If Scarborough can get past the table topper, they may have a chance of capturing the Zonal title.
In the North Zone, St Joseph’s Convent got its revenge on Maple Leaf International. After a 3-0 loss to the girls from West Moorings in the first round, St Joseph’s turned the tables with a 1-0 score.
Megan Murray was the scorer. Neither team have a chance of dethroning defending champion Providence Girls’ however, who won their match against Blanchisseuse High 6-0. There were no surprises otherwise, as Debe continued its South Zone domination, while Toco Secondary move even further away from the pack in the East.
