Vessigny went top of the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship South Zone when the school defeated Point Fortin West 3-0 on Saturday.

Goals from Teneisha Cobham, Cherrece Marshall and T’keyah Phillip put pressure on Debe, with only two matches remaining. In the other match, Michelle Murray scored a second half equaliser for Holy Faith in their 1-1 draw with Point Fortin East.

Princess Peters opened for Point Fortin East in the first half. The top two teams, Debe and Vessigny will be in action today in a title decider.

Vessigny will be without key player, Tineisha Cobham and twins Khadidra and Khadisha Debesette for the fixture as the players have been included in the T&T squad  selected for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 qualifiers in Suriname.

Vessigny manager Lidya Wildman believes, however, that the team are still in a position to defeat the defending zonal and Intercol champions.

The match will be Vessigny’s final zonal fixture while Debe will have one more match, a tough encounter against Point Fortin East on Thursday. The match will be played at lower Barrackpore Ground.

El Dorado win second straight zonal title

Last Thursday, El Dorado East Secondary clinched the East Zone title for the second year running in fine style with a 5-0 walkover on Toco.

Patrice Campbell scored all five of the goals in the match, complimenting an outstanding performance for her school in the campaign. Campbell scored four goals in a rescheduled fixture against St George’s last Tuesday, which saw El Dorado walk away 6-0 winners.

She scored an impressive 26 goal tally for the season thus far. Coach of El Dorado for 10 years, Chet Hewitt lauded Campbell’s contribution. He described Cambell as an outstanding player and someone special. Hewitt also praised the team’s captain Adefah Welch calling her a “true inspiration to the team.”

Following their triumph, four other players, Kudijah Birod, Danika George, Sherese Bishop and Rosalie Dollabaille were invited to try for the national Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

Roxborough crowned Tobago league champs

Roxborough Secondary won the Tobago Zone when the team edged Bishops 3-2 away from home. Goals from Natalia Benjamin and Andrel Fraser, as well as an own goal continued Roxborough’s unbeaten run, which put them in the National semi-final against the winner of the South Zone (yet to be determined).

Roxborough have taken the title with two matches to spare. Their two remaining fixtures are against a winless Mason Hall and Scarborough, which they defeated 2-0 in the first match of the season.

Tsianne Leander scored another hat-trick for Speyside as the school eased past Scarborough 6-2. Chevelle Marcelle scored a two goal brace while Sophia Gordon got the other goal for Speyside. Their win and Bishops’ loss saw Speyside jump to second position.
