EL DORADO Secondary East were crowned champions of the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Girls Championship yesterday when they edged Debe Secondary 1-0 in the final at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Patrice Campbell got the lone item for the El Dorado girls in the 26th minute to decide a nail-biting contest.

After the match, Trevor Spicer, coach of the “Blue Thunder’s” boys team, said everyone was elated to have finally won the girls title.

“We have been after this title for a while now but this time we came good. The girls worked hard and are deserving of the victory,” he said.

Spicer said the victory was also a consolation for his team which was defeated by St Anthony’s College in the semi-final of the Big Five play- off earlier this week.

Yesterday, the “Westmooring Tigers” came up against Carapichaima Secondary in the final of the Big Five at the Ato Boldon venue.

Spicer, the long-serving “El Do” coach said the victory by the girls has now assured them four titles for the season.

The East Zone school claimed the titles in the boys and girls East championship divisions along with the Under-13 crown.

“All we have to do now is maintain our focus for next season. We have six teams to work on and once the players all work hard we will win again next year” Spicer said.
