Shackiel Henry again scored the all important goal to lead Presentation College San Fernando, to a slender 1-0 win over Pleasantville yesterday in the BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools’s Football League (SSFL) South Zone, to become the only school in the league with a 100 per cent win rate. The match took place at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.
Henry, who went into double digits with a tenth minute strike, has now scored in all but one of “Pres’” victories this season, and has scored more than half of his team’s goals. The day got even better for Presentation when they learned the result of its nearest challenger, reigning South champion Shiva Boys, being held to a 1-1 draw with St Benedict’s at the David Williams Recreation Ground in Penal.
And the untimely result for Shiva would have gotten worse with the dismissal of its goal scorer on the day, Qwesi Weston, who received a red card.
Incidentally, St Benedict’s lone goal scorer Jameel Boatswain was also red-carded in the match. The fixture then saw its third red card with the sending off of Shiva’s Dwight Pope, as the zone’s defending champion finished the match with nine men.
The match at Moruga’s Ground, where Moruga was scheduled to host Princes Town was called off, as the referee deemed the field “unplayable”.
Up North, with reigning champion and leader St Anthony’s College on a bye, Fatima College had the opportunity to go within one point at the top of the standings, and did just that, when it whipped Trinity College 5-0, at Trinity Ground, Moka.
It was a very straightforward win for the upcoming Fatima footballers with five different scorers finding the back of the net. Former St Mary’s College midfielder Jason Mendez opened in the first half, with Arvin Prescod, Jamil Young, Leland Archer and Seon Thomas all adding to the rout.
The third best team in the standings, East Mucurapo also scored five goals, this at the expense of Diego Martin North Secondary, with the former coming away 5-2 winners at Fatima Ground, Mucurapo.
In the day’s other match, St Mary’s College continued to find consistency as it was held 2-2 at home to QRC.
In the Central Zone, Jaron Humphrey netted an 88th minute item to hand Chaguanas North a shock 2-1 win over perennial champions, Carapichaima East who ended the match with ten men after the 80th minute dismissal of goalkeeper Jordan Prince for a second bookable offense.
Early on, Carapichaima looked set for a fourth straight win to start the season when Kern Alexis fired in a second minute go-ahead at Home Land Gardens, Chaguanas.
However, with the sending off of Prince, Chaguanas North grabbed command and drew level with five minutes left thanks to David Maloney before Humphrey netted the win to send his team top of the table with ten points from four matches, one more than Carapichaima.
Couva West moved into second spot with a 1-0 win away to Presentation College of Chaguanas thanks toa 70th minute strike from Jaffet Williams while Gasparillo got its first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Tabaquite.
A new leader was also established in the East Zone as national Under-20 striker Marcus Gomez banged in a first-half brace to lead Arima North to a come-frome-behind 4-3 triumph over defending champions El Dorado East.
The El Dorado “Blue Thunder” look on course for three points when Cory Stewart and Mark Williams scored in the eighth and 15th minute for a 2-0 cushion. However, Thomas O’Neil pulled one back for the Arima “Dial Dynamos” a minute later before Gomez fired in two quick strikers in the 41st and 45th minute for a 3-2 lead at the interval.
Five minutes after the restart, Neveal Hackshaw extended Arima’s lead to 4-2 but this was quickly trimmed to a one-goal advantage when his goalkeeper, Anthony Kallicharan conceded an own goal for El Dorado East to trail, 4-3.
Despite being put under pressure, Arima managed to hold on for the win and climbed over itrs rival and into top spot with 12 points from six matches, one ahead of San Juan North which blanked El Dorado East 2-0 at Bourg Mulatresse with a double from Anthony Downes, in the 30th and 58th.
El Dorado East dropped to third on ten points but with a match in hand against cellar-placed Toco, which was thrashed at home 6-1 by visitors Trinity East in the zone’s other match.
In Tobago, Scarborough Secondary moved to the top of the table on goal-difference from Speyside after a 5-2 thrashing of host Roxborough Secondary at Settlement Ground. Speyside, meanwhile, stunned former champions Signal Hill, 2-1 at Signal Hill with national player, Brandon Benjamin scoring an 89th minute winner.

Carapichaima finally beaten.

CHAGUANANAS NORTH remain the only unbeaten school in the Central Zone of the BGT&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) after beating defending champions Carapichai-ma Secondary 2-1 at Edinburgh 500 ground, Cunupia.
With victory, Chaguanas North climbed to the top of the standings with 10 points gained from three victories and a draw.
Carapichaima stay second on nine points from three wins and yesterday's lone defeat.
Yesterday, Carapichaima got a flying start and led in just the second minute through Kern Alexis.
They held the 1 -0 lead to the half, but it was in the second session when the home team rallied to win.
First, David Maloney brought Chaguanas level at 1-1 in the 75th minute and Javon Neptune (88th) added salt to the wound by getting the winner two minutes from the end of the regulation period.
Meanwhile, down South, a very heated match between defending champions Shiva Boys and St Benedict's College ended in a 1-1 draw.
Eight cards were shown by the match referee, including two red cards to Shiva Boys, who had two players sent off. St Benedict's also had a player ejected from the field.
Elsewhere in the zone, leaders Presentation College picked up a sixth straight win and stretched their lead atop the zone to six points after edging Pleasantville 1-0.
And Arima North are the new East Zone leaders after leapfrogging El Dorado East, who they beat 4-3 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
Unbeaten Arima now have 12 points after picking up a third victory in six matches, while the "Blue Thunder" remain second on 10 point after suffering a first defeat in five matches.
El Dorado played a match less than Arima.
