Moruga Secondary head to promotion play-off

On Sun­day the south­ern­ers booked a place in the play-off for pro­mo­tion by thrash­ing Rio Claro West Sec­ondary 4-0 at the Moru­ga Recre­ation Ground to move to an un­reach­able 21 points with to­day's en­counter against Point Fortin East Sec­ondary at their home ground, be­ing their last match at the group phase.

To date the Moru­ga men are un­beat­en in sev­en match­es, win­ning all sev­en, scor­ing 27 goals and con­ced­ing just four.

Andy Joseph, the Moru­ga Sec. man­ag­er said the team has been peak­ing at the right time and once they play with their full team to their full po­ten­tial, there are no teams that will beat them. Last year Moru­ga fin­ished sec­ond to the even­tu­al win­ners of the south zone Pleas­antville Sec­ondary which earned pro­mo­tion to the pre­mier­ship, and in 2017 the school won the zone but failed to qual­i­fy out of the play-offs.

"I have to com­mend our coach­es Kemp­ton Du­val and Ke­ston Reveiro. Both have worked with the team for the past sev­en years vol­un­tar­i­ly, and have shown a lev­el of com­mit­ment that led to their suc­cess­es this year. They have al­so in­stilled dis­ci­pline in the young play­ers," Joseph ex­plained.

Moru­ga Sec has nev­er qual­i­fied for the top flight school league but feels this year could be a dif­fer­ence. The south­ern­ers' first match will be against the East zone win­ners which are like­ly to be Ari­ma North Sec­ondary next Fri­day (Oc­to­ber 25).

Mean­while, Ari­ma North, un­beat­en to date, will be up against Va­len­cia Sec­ondary from 3:40 pm at home while in the North, lead­ers Fa­ti­ma Col­lege will have a date with Mu­cu­rapo West at Fa­ti­ma Ground. All match­es be­gin at 3:40 pm.
