Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 women footballers will clash with Joe Public as action in the inaugural TT Women’s League Football (WoLF) season continues tomorrow.

This match will take place at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Tunapuna and is due to kick off at 5 pm.

The Under-17s, who are preparing for the 2010 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be staged here, have started off strongly this season and Norwegian-born coach Even Pellerud is pleased with the progress of his squad.

“The team has been consistently performing well,” he said. “We are continuing our training schedule and, as the Under-17 Women’s World Cup approaches, the final team will be identified.”

The youth team were involved in an intensive training camp in the sister isle Tobago last weekend, featuring members of the national ‘senior’ and Under- 20 squads.

Pellerud stated that the camps will be an ongoing process as the team prepares for next year’s global competition.

“A healthy rivalry exists between all the female teams,” he said.

“We simply attempted to harness the positive energy by putting the teams against each other.

“The Under-17s won one of the matches against the team which consisted of members of the ‘senior’ team and the Under-20s,” continued Pellerud. “I believe the girls benefitted a great deal from the match.” The national Under-17 squad played two matches during the training camp, earning a victory and a draw, but Pellurud was satisfied with the drawn result.

“The second game was a lot tougher,” he noted. “The girls played against many foreign-based players, including (American-based) Candace Edwards and Kimika Forbes. “The exposure is good for them and I am hoping to have similar matches in the future,” he ended.

In related news, there are other matches on today’s agenda, as Tobago FC will meet Real Dimension and Central United will square off against Petrotrin.
