UTT surges to Tier 2 top with 4-2 win

Southerners San Fernando Giants, who pulled off a surprising upset of Guaya United 2-1 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on Saturday, sealed the second position on the 11-team standing with three points and a goal difference of one, as opposed to UTT's goal difference of two.

The Giants got a double from the boot of Darnell Hospedales in the 56th minute (penalty) and 82nd to hold off the Guayaguayare men, who got a lone strike from Kirtson Baird in the 57th minute.

Meanwhile, third-place Defence Force had their second drawn match of the League, coming from a 1-1 tie with FC Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago.

The Army Coast-Guard Combination men were off to a perfect start when Jerwyn Balthazar put them ahead in the 35th minute. However, late in the encounter, the Tobago-based team got the equalizer from Michael 'Jem' Gordon from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.

In another game at the weekend, Police FC and Bethel SC played to a 2-2 tied at the St James Police Barracks training ground. Goals for the Lawmen came from Kareem Grant (30th) and Josiah Phillip (71st), while Bethel's items came courtesy of a brace from Teejay Cadiz in the third and 46th minutes.
