Axed Joe Public coach Keith Griffith has expressed dissatisfaction in the professionalism of the club following his decision the quit to job.
“I did resign on Saturday,” said Griffith. “After Saturday’s loss against (United) Petrotrin I called Daryl (Warner) and told him I was stepping down as head coach and that I will send him an official letter on Monday. But now I’m getting news that I was fired.”
“I am disappointed in the manner in which this was handled. I was not called to a meeting and they (Joe Public) didn’t wait on my official letter before sending out a letter that they released me,” continued a disappointed Griffith.
On Saturday, under Griffith, Joe Public was held to a 2-2 draw after holding a 2-0 advantage against United Petrotrin in what was the Barbadian’s last match in charge.
In the release, Managing Director, Daryl Warner explained that because of continued poor results and the worsening of the senior team.
Meantine Griffith in his defence explained that he had various reasons for quitting his job.
“As I explained to Daryl (Warner), my health continues to deteriorate. I suffer from chest pains, cramps in my stomach and this was continuous after Saturday’s match. Also I wasn’t happy with the performance of the team particularly in the League and I thought it was in the club’s and my best interest to step down,” continued the former Barbados national coach.
“I took the team to the Group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League and that created history for the club. If the bosses weren’t happy then why did the players receive bonuses? I came here to assist and I gave it my best in my current situation.”
Heading back into retirement, Griffith underlined that he was treated unfairly.
“I was invited here by Joe Public. I didn’t apply for the job. I gave it my best and I think that I should have been treated differently and professionally,” he ended.
