TRINIDAD and Tobago women footballers will be tested by their Venezuelan counterparts in two international friendlies next month.

The 20-member squad being prepared by coach Marlon Charles will face the Venezuela women on July 6 at the Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin and possibly at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on July 8.

Charles is getting the women “Soca Warriors” ready for their participation at the final round of qualification of the Caribbean Football Union which will give them a place in the CONCACAF World qualifiers later this year.

And according to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, the women will be off on a training camp in Houston, Texas, United States.

Charles said the friendlies against the Venezuelans are coming at an opportune time since his team has not played together for a long time.

He said key components of focus now is on fitness apart from injury recovery, tactical and technical aspects.

He said most of the overseas-based players are back home and “they have all been part of the programme since age 11 or so.”

Charles said all the players in training are locals, “but the door will be opened up following the matches against Venezuela for Swedish-based Ahkeela Mollon and Kennya Cordoner who is based in the United States.”

He added, “We will give every player the opportunity to vie for selection as we try to assemble the best team possible.”
