The Trinidad and Tobago national Under-15 girls footballers have won their group and will today meet the Dominican Republic in today’s League B semi-final stage of the 2024 CONCACAF Girls Under-15 Championship being held here.

T&T take on their Spanish-speaking rivals from 9 a.m. at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Opponents the Dominican Republic have a 100% record after three matches, and are coming off a dominant 3-0 win over Bermuda yesterday.

Today’s other semi-final matches Group E winners Honduras and Group D champions Guatemala. All four semi-finalists are unbeaten. The finals and third-place playoffs of the tournament take place on Sunday.

Yesterday, the Soca Princesses completed their Group C programme with a dominating 5-0 beating of Grenada. Trendsetter Hawks defender Hackeemar Goodridge gave T&T a quick lead when opening the scoring in just the third minute, with a powerful shot from mid-range, and ten minutes later, Scarlett Cole (Pro Series FC) doubled the score with a downward header to the corner.

Three more goals came in an equally dominant second half for T&T. Taya Williams was bundled over inside the penalty area, and the very tiny Shemaiah Toussaint (Cox Football Academy) converted in the 48th minute for 3-0, while Alliyah Baptiste (Jewels SC) converted a low rebound for 4-0 in the 61st minute.

Mia Lee Chong (67th), the very talented and influential USA-based Orlando City Academy midfielder, got the final goal, when floating a long free-kick, which slipped through the goalkeeper’s fingers for 5-0.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago’s reserves, the High-Performance team, missed out on a semi-final spot after losing for the first time. The High-Performance squad ended Group D in second spot after losing their top-of-the-table clash 1-0 to Guatemala. However, the local girls gave D winners Guatemala their most difficult outing.
