Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 17 women’s team had its warm-up encounter against Panama cut short on Wednesday evening after sudden rainfall and a violent outbreak of lighting and thunder forced the game to be abandoned in the 55th minute.

The teams were keen on getting a positive result at the Estadio Agustín Muquita Sánchez in the Panama Province but referee Ameth Sanchez had no option but to blow it off with both teams locked at 0-0.

The technical staffs of both teams agreed to take their players off and the two teams are scheduled to play another 45 minutes on Thursday evening. Both T&T and Panama will also proceed with their scheduled 90-minute encounter on Friday as they continue preparations for their upcoming CONCACAF Final round of qualification for the 2012 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan

“Both teams are in dire need of match time so we agreed to play the second 45 minutes on Thursday evening and we will then go ahead with the second match on Friday,” T&T head coach Even Pellerud told TTFF Media.
“We started the game and were creating more chances on goal but at that point the weather was very hot and the playing conditions were not the best. Then the heavy thunder and rains came and we had no choice but to take the players off. Their safety came first at that stage,” Pellerud added.

“I am expecting a much better showing in the second game as well as the next 45 minutes because I don’t think we settled well in the game and our performance could have been better. But this is all preparation right now. The team chemistry is improving on a daily basis and then we are working on the other outfield areas that we need to improve on before the tournament in Guatemala next month.

The T&T team will travel to Fort Lauderdale on the weekend for another training camp ahead of its May 3rd opener against Mexico.
