Trinidad and Tobago Under 17 Women’s Team clinched third place in the Caribbean Football Union Championship with a 3-0 victory over Cuba on Sunday in Puerto Rico.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Jamaica in the semi-finals on Friday, the T&T girls lifted themselves to finish on top in their final encounter of the series.

T&T got goals from Laurelle Theodore in the 25th minute and 76th minutes and Shenieka Paul in the 69th.

The win was however not enough to secure a place in the CONCACAF Finals in Grenada next March as only the two finalists Jamaica and Haiti progressed along with hosts Grenada as the Caribbean’s three representatives in the 8-team tournament.

T&T lost to Jamaica 1-0 on Friday after conceding an 83rd minute goal.

The team will return to Port of Spain on Monday evening.
