Clint Marcelle Football Academy captured the Media 21 Limited $3,000 Northern Football Association FA Trophy after getting past Queen’s Park CC 6-5 on sudden-death penalty-kicks on Thursday night.
This after both teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva with Akim Ash on target for the Cocorite-based Clint Marcelle FA, named after the former national midfielder while Vladimir Suite scored for the Parkites.
Both clubs were level at 4-4 at the end of the first five penalties with Ricardo Allen (Clint Marcelle FA) and Richard Santana (QPCC) the players to miss their efforts. Both teams then scored their first attempts in sudden-death while Clint Marcelle FA, which was beaten by the Parkites 4-1 in a league fixture before going on its current 13-match unbeaten run scored again to go ahead 6-5.
The Cocorite club, in existence for only three years then captured the title when former national Under-17 goalkeep Kern Ceasar kept out ex-national youth team player, Joel Gibbons’ seventh attempt for the Parkites.
In the semifinals last month, Clint Marcelle FA edged last year’s winner Dathea FC 5-4 on penalty-kicks at the St James Infirmary “Poor House” Ground, Western Main Road, St James while Queen’s Park whipped Morvant Elements 3-1 at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
