Rashard Griffith scored on either side of the half as Joe Public whipped Maloney Academy 4-1 in the Eastern Football Association Emerald Apartments and Plaza Cup final on Saturday at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. Griffith opened the scoring in the 35th minute which Joe Public took into the interval.

The “Eastern Lions” went 2-0 ahead when Griffith found the target again in the 50th minute, but Manu John responded within five minutes for Maloney to trail 2-1. Jovan Rochford restored Joe Public’s two goal cushion in the 65th minute and Kevon Cornwall completed the scoring five minutes from fulltime to complete a 4-1 drubbing and with it the $4,500 first prize and the Cup. Maloney got $2,000 for second spot.

In the semifinal round, Joe Public blanked EFA Premier League and FA Trophy winner Valtrin United 2-0 with goals from Griffith, in the first minute and Keron Reid, ten minutes from fulltime. In the other semifinal, Maloney got the better of Real Maracas 4-2 on penalty-kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. John had given Maloney a 29th minute lead before Jason Hernandez tied up the scores in the 65th minute to force penalty-kicks.
